Places to see in ( Halesworth - UK )
Halesworth is a small market town and electoral ward, in the northeastern corner of Suffolk, England. The population was measured at 4,726 in the 2011 Census. It is located 15 miles (24 km) south west of Lowestoft, and stands on a small tributary of the River Blyth, 9 miles (14 km) upstream from Southwold. The town is served by Halesworth railway station on the Ipswich–Lowestoft East Suffolk Line. Halesworth is twinned with both Bouchain in France and Eitorf in Germany.
A Roman settlement, Halesworth has a medieval church; St Mary's with Victorian additions and a variety of houses, from early timber-framed buildings to the remnants of Victorian prosperity. Former almshouses used to house the Halesworth & District Museum (open from May to September) but this has now been moved to Halesworth railway station. The Town Trail walk provides opportunity to discover the history of Halesworth.
Halesworth is primarily centred on a pedestrianised shopping street known as the Thoroughfare. Each year the Thoroughfare hosts a popular food, drink and craft fair, termed the Thoroughfair, to raise money for good causes. Halesworth is the home to the New Cut Arts Centre, which hosts the acclaimed annual Halesworth Arts Festival.
Halesworth has the largest Millennium Green in the UK with around 44 acres (18 ha) of grazing marsh providing a haven for wildlife close to the town centre. The rivers in this area are home to herons, kingfishers and otters. Nearby villages include Cratfield, Wissett, Chediston, Walpole, Blyford, Linstead Parva, Wenhaston, Thorington, Spexhall and Bramfield. The village of Holton is 1-mile (1.6 km) away with a large open space for walking called Holton Pits.
Halesworth railway station is connected to Ipswich and Lowestoft. It is the best unstaffed railway station for 2004 and 2005. Services are available to Lowestoft and Ipswich and are run by Abellio Greater Anglia. There has probably been a church on the site of St Mary's, since Saxon times. Halesworth is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 recording Ulf the priest to be in charge of the parish.

Former Palestinian prisoner Ahmed Tobasi finds salvation on stage
(11 Jul 2017) FORMER PALESTINIAN PRISONER AHMED TOBASI FINDS SALVATION ON STAGE
Ahmed Tobasi says he's always had an active imagination.
I always see things in different way, says the Palestinian actor. And in a way if I see things I never see it as it is. It takes me to other things, I start seeing a different life and different ways of doing it, different ways of thinking about it.
For his latest role, Tobasi casts a wry eye over his eventful life in one man play, And Here I Am.
Currently touring the U.K., the play highlights the darkly comic absurdities of growing up in the midst of a conflict.
Tobasi teamed up with director Zoe Lafferty and award-winning writer Hassan Abdulrazzak to shape his experiences into a stage production.
The result is a series of tragicomic narratives about the struggles and contradictions of a young Palestinian man growing up under occupation.
Born in a Palestinian refugee camp, Tobasi took up arms at 17. Shot during an attack on his camp, he was arrested and spent four years in an Israeli desert prison.
Released at the age of 21, he resisted pressure to return to weapons, instead turning to art to increase awareness.
He studied at the Nordic Black Theatres under political asylum, returning to Jenin Refugee Camp and The Freedom Theatre in 2013 where he met director and political activist Juliano Mer-Khamis.
Even in prison I was making sketch, I was trying to drum on a bucket and make fun says Tobasi. I just entered there for the first time for sure it clashed with Juliano (Mer-Khamis). I was like there's something there. But yeah, I feel like this is something I want to continue with.
Tobasi hopes through his work he can help promote understanding and prompt discussion.
He plans to tour the show in Palestine in September, saying The Freedom Theatre aims to encourage people to think for themselves, questioning not just the situation in the country, but what they are told about it.
I did the play and, you know, like now I talk about my life and you see people buy tickets, come, sit, one hour and a half, giving me all ears, focused and listen to me until I finish and they stand up and they clap for me just because I'm doing theater. If I go out on the street now and I start to scream 'Free Palestine! Freedom!' They would be like, 'Oh this guy, he needs the hospital. Take him to the doctor.' No, I'm going to be like a crazy guy. But here they respect you, they give you their attention just because I'm doing theater.

AND HERE I AM by Hassan Abdulrazzak
Based on Ahmed Tobasi’s personal coming of age story, AND HERE I AM is an epic voyage of identity and self discovery. Combining fact and fantasy, tragedy and comedy, spanning both the first Palestinian intifada and the second, we follow the protagonist through his transformation from armed resistance fighter to artist, his journey as a refugee in the West Bank to Norway and then back again.
In a series of tragicomic episodes vividly brought to life by award winning writer Hassan Abdlrazzak we journey through this personal and political tale of occupation and resistance, fear and heroism, a life of self-pursuit and loyalty. Transporting us to the heart of the hardships, struggles and contradictions of a young Palestinian man growing up under occupation and his pursuit for the true meaning of freedom.

Here Is Our Home from Ballads of Blything Hundred by Bridget Cousins
Following the runaway success of 'Singing the river' in 2008, Halesworth Community Choir returned to The Cut in May with the premier of a third cycle of songs rooted in this lovely area and its history.
'Ballads of Blything Hundred' featured more original music for voices from Wenhaston's Bridget Cousins, who also conducted.
This concert was unique in that one of the songs featured was about the famous Wenhaston 'Doom' painting in the church.
Legends, tales and real historical events were evoked in song, complemented by the quintessentially Suffolk sound of Syzewell Gap.

REVIEWS:
Samia Malik’s singing in Urdu is gorgeous, as are her melodies, but gorgeous though these are her writing is even more striking. She writes in the Urdu tradition of sung poetry and takes it to completely new territory by giving voice to her own and possibly a generation of Asian women’s experience in Britain. It is wonderfully powerful writing Alan Scott – Resonance
