THE DESERTED VILLAGE OF PORT, CO DONEGAL
TRIP TO THE DESERTED VILLAGE OF PORT, CO DONEGAL IRELAND. 6TH JANUARY 2018
The Ghost Village of Port, Co Donegal
Visit the beautiful Ghost Village of Port, in the beautiful Co Donegal on the Wild Atlantic way, and see the deserted cottages of a bygone age
in the abandoned Village of Port,
An Port. Abandoned village Co Donegal
Not far from the village of Glencolmcille in west County Donegal there is a hidden village, found only by driving along an old road away from the main roads. The village, now deserted, is called either The Ghost Village or The Deserted Village and sits on a rocky coastline just above the sea. In earlier times it was a thriving village as it is probably the location of Donegal’s earliest maritime port.
Now the little cottages lie in ruins, abandoned it is thought during The Famine (1845-52).
Try to spot Bob at the start.

Port, Co. Donegal (near Glencolmcille)
A 360 degree (almost) view of the surrounding area at the 'ghost village' of Port, Co. Donegal. This was apparently the first ever fishing port in Donegal but the population was wiped out during the Irish Famine. Stunning scenery in an extremely isolated location.
Discover Donegal. An Port
Rock climbing in Donegal, Ireland
An Port in Western Donegal, is the most remote road end location in Ireland. This short film shows a unique view of this isolated and beautiful location from the summit of Realm of the Senses sea stack which overlooks An Port bay.

Atlantis Commune ( The Screamers ) - Co. Donegal 30/01/1981
Visit the Screamers Community in Burtonport, County Donegal and meets Atlantis founder Jenny James, her sister Snowy, daughter Becky and an Englishwoman Sally.
The Atlantis commune members believe aggression is a healthy emotion. As they see it, society has put a premium on mediocrity and being sweet and polite. In Atlantis a balanced person is somebody that can show the whole gamut of emotions with a premium put on being argumentative and aggressive.
Very extreme things get said indeed, that’s the point, that you get out every horrible thought you have about this person and then it’s up to the other person to feel what that does to them.
This philosophy is demonstrated in a heated exchange between Becky and Sally where Sally releases all her negative feelings about Becky. Becky however, is unsure of how to deal with what Sally is saying. Nevertheless, Jenny is happy for Sally to work her grudges off her daughter because if this did not happen she believes
She’ll feel it as a vibration, she’ll feel it as a tension, she’ll hate her she’ll want to cut off from her. We actually want people to express their aggression towards us because it’s then deal-able with, its see-able, touchable, feel-able and it’s not just a horrible feeling of something going on under the surface.
After leaving Burtonport, the Atlantis Commune lived on the nearby island of Inishfree for several years before relocating to Colombia in South America.
