The Tablelands, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador
There are very few places where you can set foot on the earth's mantle. But, here at the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park, you can do just that. You can take a guided tour with Gros Morne Adventures -- in partnership with Parks Canada -- to hear a geological story half a billion years in the making. Or, explore it for yourself and get lost in awe at this colourful and unique landscape.
Tablelands
A beautiful song by David Berger. Photos by Mike and Kathy Madigan. Our home in Woody Point Newfoundland is nestled in and surrounded by The Tableland Mountains, Bonne Bay, and Gros Morne Mountain. It's a wonderful place to live and be. (P.S. I hope you use earphones or good speakers to hear this song! The cd Oliver's Dream by David is fantastic. Thanks David for this work of art.)
Fossil Tours at Courtenay & District Museum
Your adventure begins in the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Center. Here, a friendly and informative guide will give a brief lecture and show a short video about the famous discoveries made in the local area. Then, it's off into the exhibit galleries to see the actual specimen and reconstructed cast of an Elasmosaur found in the Puntledge river. You'll also see other vertebrate fossils, such as mosasaurs, turtles, and fish -along with the invertebrate fossils of shelled creatures that lived in the warm, shallow ocean surrounding Vancouver Island 80 million years ago.
A short 10 minute drive and an easy 5 minute forested walk brings you to one of the many beautiful fossil sites along the Puntledge river. Here, you'll experience the thrill of hands-on discovery. After a brief discussion about the history of the site and proper collection techniques, participants will have a chance to find a fossil of their very own. A limited number of hammers, chisels and goggles will be supplied. You can keep any fossils that you find on the tour. If the species is of scientific value, you may be asked to donate the fossil to the museum collection, with the finder's name attached.
Due to the popularity of the tour, pre-bookings needed for the fossil tours. You will require your own transportation to the fossil site.

Broke. Trailer (25th annual Donald Brittain Gemini Award Winning Documentary)
Watch the documentary @ or
-Best social-political documentary of 2010. Won the prestigious Donald Brittain Award. Set in a pawnshop, the cinema verite masterpiece tells the story of the unlikely friendship between a cynic pawnbroker and his sweet but psychopathic assistant. Broke. is a complex, powerful cinema verite account of the day to day life in a pawnshop. The documentary gives us an intimate glimpse into a world most of us luckily do not have to know. Although often as funny and surprising as a sitcom, it bluntly points to the hardships and desperations of the marginalized. As the pawnbroker states: You don't see it in your rarified living conditions, you don't see how the poor people live, unless you come here. Tragic some of it.
House of the Rising Sun - Montana Skies (Chicago 7-2010)
House of the Rising Sun jam w/ Devil went down to GA...live at Uncommon Grounds in Chicago.
on Facebook A must see live concert experience: a duo with the full spectrum of an orchestra crossed with the energy of a rock band. Jennifer and Jonathan Adams create a new acoustic sound with their pairing of cello, six-string electric cello, Spanish/classical guitar, and steel string guitar. These award winning musicians delve into music from Pink Floyd and Rush to Vivaldi, House of the Rising Sun, and Bach, as well as their own originals that have been featured everywhere from NPR to the Travel Channel. Using a wide range of effects, Jennifer Adams' blazing electric cello and Jonathan Adams' guitar wizardry combine to create a sound that is truly remarkable. Montana Skies has an extensive tour schedule which has taken them all across the US, Canada and to Asia. Jonathan and Jennifer met while studying music at the University of Georgia. Recognizing a kindred spirit in each other's devotion to their music, the desire to share music together was ignited immediately. The two assumed they would be performing classical recitals and great works for the cello and guitar; then, in one trip to the library to select music, their whole world of classical intentions came crashing down. The discovery: music written for cello and guitar was as rare as the combination itself -- no great classical works existed. What resulted from this new musical freedom of expression between the two was the formation of Montana Skies, and a unique style of music that would garner instant recognition and praise. Jonathan explains, The fact that 'ready made' repertoire is not available for our combination of instruments is really what pushes us to be more creative with our music. We love composing and arranging, and appreciate the opportunity to present old favorites, along with newer music, to our audiences. Montana Skies' name is taken from one of the first songs Jonathan composed for the group titled Montana Skies. The song was written specifically about being in Montana and the joy of inspiration Jonathan felt from its natural beauty. At the time of its composition, he and Jennifer were completing their individual studies of music (he in Montana and she in Italy) and they realized that they would like to be together. Written during a crucial turning point in their relationship, the song marked the beginning of the duo's musical collaboration and their newly found sound. Montana Skies maintains an active touring schedule. Highlights from their touring has included: the Seoul Arts Center (2,500 seats) in S. Korea, Great Falls Civic Auditorium (1,800 seats) in Montana, and the new backstage series at the Morrison Center in Boise, Idaho. Jonathan's full length instructional book and CD, Getting Into Fingerstyle Guitar was published in 2002 by Mel-Bay Publications. Additional publications are in-the-works. Influences and Inspirations include: Yo-yo ma, John Williams, Paco de Lucia, Tommy Emmanuel, Bela Fleck, Nickel Creek, Andy Mckee, Michael Hedges, Ottmar Liebert, rodrigo y gabriela, strunz and farah, al di meola, willie and lobo, Pink Floyd, Rush, Metallica, the Beatles, Pat Metheny, Derek Trucks, Nigel Kennedy, Yanni, Earl Klugh, Jean Luc Ponty, Stephane Grappelli, Vanessa Mae, Jimi Hendrix, David Grisman, Sam Bush, Tony Rice, the Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Les Paul, Dave Matthews Band, The Police, kansas, Chet Atkins and more.

You might not know who Arjan Roskam is, but you've probably smoked his weed. Arjan's been breeding some of the most famous marijuana strains in the world—like White Widow, Super Silver Haze, and many others—for over 20 years.
In 1992 he opened his first coffee shop in Amsterdam and has since crafted his marijuana-breeding skills into a market-savvy empire known as Green House Seed Company, which rakes in millions of dollars a year.
He's won 38 Cannabis Cups and has dubbed himself the King of Cannabis.
VICE joins Arjan and his crew of strain hunters in Colombia to look for three of the country's rarest types of weed, strains that have remained genetically pure for decades. In grower's terms, these are called landraces. We trudge up mountains and crisscross military checkpoints in the country's still-violent south, and then head north to the breathtaking Caribbean coast. As the dominoes of criminalization fall throughout the world, Arjan is positioned to be at the forefront of the legitimate international seed trade.

Education For Whom and For What?
Noam Chomsky, a world-renowned linguist, intellectual and political activist, spoke at the University of Arizona on Feb. 8, 2012. His lecture, Education: For Whom and For What? featured a talk on the state of higher education, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Chomsky, an Institute Professor and a Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked for more than 50 years, has been concerned with a range of education-related issues in recent years. Among them: How do we characterize the contemporary state of the American education system? What happens to the quality of education when public universities become more privatized? Are public universities in danger of being converted into facilities that produce graduates-as-commodities for the job market? What is the role of activism in education? With unprecedented tuition increases and budget struggles occurring across American campuses, these are questions that are more relevant than ever.
The Book of Leviticus
God invites Israel to live in close proximity to His holy presence. Which seems awesome, but it’s actually dangerous. This book explores how the sacrificial rituals and purity practices cleared the way for morally corrupt Israelites to become God’s covenant partners.
