Otter Trail Tsitsikamma National Park 2017
THE Otter Trail... one of the coolest experiences of my life! A 20 kg pack, seaside cliffs, log cabins on the beach, dolphins, whales, friends! Need I say more? We made some friends on the Drakensberg trip, one of them named Dev, who invited us along on the 12-person Otter journey, where we made some lifelong friends while taking on an epic 5-day 45km hike! The trip to the start point was a journey in itself as we drove out of a hurricane in Cape Town, straight into massive wildfires on the Garden Route, but eventually it all worked out! Hopefully you enjoy the video, and maybe it'll even inspire you to do the trip as well!

BEAUTIFUL GARDEN ROUTE | Storms river mouth, Suspension bridge | Tsitsikamma, South Africa
Along the South Coast of South Africa lies one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, home to the Garden Route National Park
The Tsitsikamma National Park, part of the Garden Route National Park in South Africa, is a place where you can experience the outdoors, stunning marine life and an adventure filled vacation.
The suspension bridge that hangs over the red-brown waters of the Storms River Mouth spans 77 metres and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions of the Tsitsikamma region of the Eastern Cape. Situated within the Tsitsikamma National Park, it was originally built in 1969.It hangs just seven metres above the churning waters of the river as it enters the foamy Indian Ocean.
The pathway leading to the suspension bridge covers 900 metres of the Tsitsikamma forest. There are plenty of steps to negotiate, but it remains a fairly easy route, particularly if covered slowly. The walk is well worth the magnificent views.A steep decline takes visitors to the bridge. Adventure sport is increasingly popular in this part of the world and it is not uncommon to see groups of paddlers and divers heading out to explore the rugged terrain and wild waters. Standing on this dramatic piece of engineering, visitors are able to take in the unspoilt beauty around them.
The Mouth Trail is the most popular walk in the Tsitsikamma and starts at Sandy Bay and takes one along a winding board walk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storms River.
Activities: Diving, snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, swimming, climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, sailing, bungee jumping
Highlights: Famous Otters trail and Dolphin trail, scenery and whale watching

The Mouth Trail - Tsitsikamma - Garden Route National Park
The Mouth Trail starts at Sandy Bay (next to the restaurant) and takes one along a winding boardwalk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storms River, the famous suspension bridge, the Storms River Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site) and to the Spirit of Tsitsikamma boat jetty. For the more energetic, the trail continues after the bridge and leads to the lookout point on the plateau. The journey to the bridge and back will take you approximately 40 minutes.

Tsitsikamma - Otter Trail Waterfall Hike
One of the top coastal walks in the world, at the furthest point is the amazing waterfall cascading into the sea. Filmed at Storms River Mouth - Tsitsikamma - Garden Route - South Africa.
This is the start of the Otter Trail, a 4 day hike which has to be pre-booked but you can walk the first part of it for free to the waterfall and back. You'll need to be sure on feet as its more like an easy scramble in many parts. The walk took us about 3 hours.
STORMS RIVER MOUTH, GARDEN ROUTE, SOUTH AFRICA
Storms River Mouth, Garden Route, South Africa
This was a lovely place for a good walk, around the cosast line on some boardwalks and stone paths. The scenary and views were fantastic, culminating in the end with a gorgeous view of the storms river gorge. The suspension bridges over the sea were interesting and we had the fortune to see sevderal rock rabbits playing on the rocks. Also great views of a sea otter and some southern right whales out to sea. The flora in this area was great too.
Hiking the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park

WE FOUND DOLPHINS! SOUTH AFRICA GARDEN ROUTE: TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK
26/11/18 - Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa
After a fairly long drive with some interesting directions provided by Google, we arrived in Tsitsikamma National Park and had a great lunch overlooking the fierce waves and swimming dolphins. We then saw some more daisies before going on a “walk through nature” and over the famous suspension bridges. We then hiked up to a beautiful viewpoint before driving to our nearby accommodation for the night.

Otter Trail South Africa
Well for the many that have completed this trail I'm sure they will agree that the Otter trail is a true South African icon... relentless in the ups and extremely inspiring in its beauty.
Otter Trail 2018/1 (Day One)
Day one of South Africa's oldest official hiking trail! The Otter Trail begins at Storms River Mouth and ends off at Ngubu Huts 6km later. A relatively easy day...the challenge really being about calming the nerves and adjusting to a heavy backpack.

Storms River Mouth National Park - in the Spectacular Garden Route
This is one of our families favourite destinations in South Africa. A few days at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp - part of the Garden Route in South Africa is such a treat for the soul. Breathing the fresh coastal forest air, hiking, camping and enjoying the sunsets is all part of the fun.
There is plenty to do here, including having a good coffee and meal at the local restaurant. Whales, dolphins, birdlife and plenty of wildlife can be seen from the many viewpoints around the park. We love camping here, but there are also a variety of chalets available.
There are several hikes and trail within the National Park, well marked and fairly accessible. Two of the trails requires a moderate amount of fitness, due to the climbing up a hillside, or over the coastal rocks. We hiked to the swing bridge and the waterfall in this footage. The waterfall is part of the first day of the world-renowned Otter Trail.
Rain or sunshine, Storms River Mouth is a must-see if you are visiting South Africa.
