Bredene is a town in the province of West Flanders in Belgium and is the best region for camping tourism. In or near the spa town is a total of 30 camping sites, many family friendly holiday resorts and wonderful guest houses.
Bredene primarily stands for camping tourism, nudism and a nice weekend break. Ever since the opening of the nudist beach. Bredene is the spa town for recreation in nature in its purest form. Besides that Bredene is the only coastal town without a crouwded boulevard. The excellent mix of beach and dunes however makes up for that.
Beaches:
The beach is of course the most popular attraction of Bredene. From young to old, everybody daily enjoys the sun by the sea or a breath of fresh air on the beach.
The beach is child friendly, flat and remain nearly untouched. The approximately four kilometer long row of dunes is the natural protection for the hinterland, which is below sea level. The beaches will be cleaned everyday during the summer. Besides the rescue brigade will guard the beaches and warns where there is dangerous current or wind, a pleasant and safe feeling.
Facilities:
Apart from the regular waste bins at the entrances to the beach, the council provides lots of extra seasonal ones on the beach during the high season.
Dog poop bags can be disposed of in one of the many dog litter bins and regular waste bins on the council’s territory as well.
A sunbath or a walk along the beach, playing fun or water sports. The very well maintained, white beaches of will offer you peace and quietness.
Village: Bredene is also a n excellent location for people who love shopping. The shopping centre at the Brugsesteenweg offers you a wide range of fashion, shoes, nourishment, electrics and entertainment. The town centre of Bredene is almost 2 kilometer from the shore. Close to the sea is the tourist part of town.
Sightseeing:
No interferance with nature, such as in Bredene, results in one of the most beautiful groups of dunes of the Belgian coastline! These majestic dunes, that still work as a natural protection against the sea, are sometimes up to 350 meters wide. Bredene is the place to be for the people who love nature: the spa town does not have a dike to protect it from the sea, and therefore the dunes merge directly into the fine sand beach without any interruption.
To conclude, towns like Oostende and Brugge are really close by, therefore BREDENE is the perfect destination for a visit to the Belgian coast towns and harbours.
Dogs:
Bredene generally allows dogs on the beach and in the dunes, provided owners keep to certain rules.
Walking: where (not)? On the beach:
Dogs are not allowed on the beach and when in the dunes must keep to the paved paths from 1 July to 31 August between 10.30 am and 6.30 pm. Before and after those times, they are allowed, but must be kept on a leash.
Dogs are banned from cemeteries, municipal sports venues (except for the cafeterias and their access paths) and any other public and municipal buildings. Dog owners, please also keep your loyal friend on the leash in public.
However, dogs can run around off the leash in the two dog parks at the Brouwerijstraat and by the Creatuur building in Bredene village centre.
Dogs welcome: eating and sleeping
There are lots of possibilities to take your dog with you to the seaside, even if you’d like to stay a bit longer. Many places offering food and drink or overnight accommodation welcome pets. Though some indicate this on their website, don’t forget to ask when booking if you want to be safe!

Other things to consider:
Last year, the council launched a tongue-in-cheek dog poo campaign with stand-up comedian Piv Huvluv as its front man. Dog owners could sign a charter committing themselves unconditionally to always clear up the poo of their trusted pet. But the campaign was only the first step.Once awareness had been raised, the council decided to also take repressive measures, sending out its staff, - wardens and special community constables to carry out regular checks in places with a dog poo problem. Checks are announced on the sandwich boards in the concerned areas.
Offenders can be fined up to € 250.
And if you do take your dog out, don’t forget to take your dog poop bags with you.
