Talyllynn Railway Special
The Talyllyn Railway’s locomotive No.4 ‘Edward Thomas’ of 1921 was one of the star attractions at the Severn Valley Railway’s Spring Gala over the weekend of 18, 19 and 20 March 2016. It was in steam on a specially laid length of track next to the railway’s ‘Engine House’ Exhibition at Highley.

The BIG Shunt at The Engine House
All change at The Engine House!
It's taken five days to move everything around and we cannot wait to reopen our Visitor Centre at Highley so you can see what's changed.
Two new locomotives have taken up residence:
- No. 7819 Hinton Manor - the locomotive first arrived on the Railway in 1973 from Barry Scrapyard, and returned to steam for the first time four years later. Since then, it's been a much-loved performer and saw much use on the SVR and on the mainline. It retired from service in 1995 and was on display in Swindon until late last year when it returned home. Now awaiting overhaul, No. 7819 is the new 'footplate' locomotive in The Engine House, which means you can climb aboard and learn how to operate a steam locomotive - you could even get married on it!
- No. 7 Typhoon - visiting from our friends at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Typhoon is a 15-inch gauge miniature locomotive, built in 1927. On display alongside No. 600 Gordon, the diminutive engine is a marvel of small-scale engineering. Based on the LNER A1 Pacifics (you may have seen No. 60163 Tornado operating on our Railway), Typhoon currently wears British Racing Green and is sure to be a great attraction.
A familiar face:
- In 2018, Pannier Tank No. 5764 moved into The Engine House. During our Winter Shutdown, the Great Western Railway locomotive has been transformed into London Transport livery, appearing as No. L95. The 1929-built engine arrived on the Severn Valley Railway in 1971 in the same livery and now takes centre stage in the Visitor Centre in its stunning new coat of paint.
As well as the all-new attractions, The Engine House is still home to our old favourites; No. 46443, Lady Armaghdale, No. 48773, No. 4566, No. 47383, No 80079, the Highley Mining wagon, Travelling Post Office and Royal Saloon.
Make sure you visit The Engine House soon to see what we've changed!
A January Blues Visit to the Severn Valley Railway - Saturday 24.01.09
On Saturday 24th January 2008, my Dad, my Uncle Aaron and I visited the Severn Valley Railway. The railway was running 'Blue' Timetable A, using three steam locomotives hauling five services each way on the 16 mile line that runs between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.
The main aim of our trip to the SVR this weekend was to visit 'The Engine House' at Highley station, but as many of you know, since the 5th January, Highley has been shut for work to commence on a new footbridge, and was shut during our visit, so we didn't bother driving to Highley and didn't go into the 'The Engine House'.
Also running along side the normal services, was a charter by 'The Stainer Mogul Fund', celebrating the 75th Birthday of their locomotive, LMS 2-6-0 'Stainer Mogul' number 42968, which had a special red headboard mounted on her. Sadly to say, I did not get a video or photo of this :'(
Locomotives running on our visit -
GWR 2-6-2T 45xx Class 'Small Prairie Tank' number 4566
GWR 2-6-2T 5101 Class 'Large Prairie Tank' number 5164
GWR 4-6-0 78xx 'Manor' Class number 7802 'Bradley Manor
LMS 2-6-0 'Stainer Mogul' number 42968 (only loco not to feature)
What we did -
| 1045 Kidderminster - Hampton Loade hauled by 4566
| 1138 Hampton Loade - Bewdley hauled by 7802
| 1329 Bewdley - Bridgnorth hauled by 7802
| 1615 Bridgnorth - Kidderminster hauled by 4566

SVR Santa Specials 2017 on Sunday 17th December 2017
In this video we visit the Severn Valley Railway on Sunday 17th December 2017, for some of the Santa Special workings.
The locations vary between both Bewdley and Arley which was the terminus for the Santa Special workings, and where Santa's Grotto resides.
The loco's featuring are:
BR Standard Class 4 Tank 80072 (visiting on winter hire)
SR West Country Class 34027 Taw Valley
GWR 78xx Manor Class 7802 Bradley Manor
LWS Ivatt Class 4 43106
SR Battle of Britain Class 34053 Sir Keith Park (departing to Swanage in 2018)
Apologies in advance for the length of this video, however there are some interesting movements, especially at Arley whereby the loco's runaround their train and then back their train out of the up platform towards Highley, before running into the down platform.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the video...

SVR 'Engine House Exhibits'
The Engine House at Highley was completed back in 2007 although the storm damage delayed the opening and the installation of the exhibits. The current locos on display are 7325, 80079, 600 Gordon, 4930 Hagley Hall, 47383 and 1000 Midland Compound (courtesy of the NRM). 48773 and 1501 will be installed in the near future. The locos were towed by diesels from Kidderminster to Highley by D8188, D37906 and D73101 'The Royal Alex' (the locos were split into 3 seperate combinations due to weight restrictions) These were shunted at Highley by class 08 D3022 (Filmed on 16/03/08)

60163 Tornado, Severn Valley Railway, Pacific Power event 2016, full
here is my video of Tornado travelling up and down the line on the Severn Valley Railway during the Pacific Power event during the 22nd-26th September 2016.
I visited the railway 4 out of the 5 days (excluding the charity day) and made it a task to video and photo from every station.
Unfortunately i didn't get any kidderminster footage as i spent a lot of time at each station and there wasn't really anywhere that i could position myself properly so went for the other locations. The last clip shows Tornado leaving Kidderminster after being turned round, which i didn't know was happening.
Locations in the video are, (in running order)
