Gubbio, Umbria, Italy
We are visiting Gubbio, which is one of the great medieval, stone towns of Italy. We're in Umbria and we’re fortunate to be walking with Isabella who is going to take us around and show us all of these great sights of this amazing town of Gubbio. It's about 1000 years old but it has origins that go back 3000 years. It's really got a lot of history.
Most travelers, even if you're very experienced, have never heard of the town of Gubbio in Umbria in Italy. Well we are going to take you there.
We were lucky to meet Isabella, who is not a professional tour guide. She's a sommelier, but she's born and raised in Gubbio and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her hometown. She's going to take us on a walking tour, ending up with dinner at home with her family. And it was just a great evening with family and friends at home in Gubbio, one of the nicest nights I've ever had in my travels.
This is an assembled version of several shorter movies previously uploaded.

Cooking in Florence on a Rick Steves Tour
With so many travelers into food these days, food tours and cooking classes have become a big deal all over Europe. And a cooking class is a perfect example of how we, as part of our bus tours, encourage our travelers to roll up their sleeves and dig into the local culture through real experiences. I love to bump into our tours while in Europe doing my research. And just the other day I met one of our Venice/Florence/Rome groups and joined them for lunch. The catch? We had to cook it ourselves. Fun and enthusiastic Fabrizio (of the In Tavola Cooking School) had five mini-kitchens set up for our group where he and his staff led us through a marvelous 90 minutes of cooking fun. And, I swear, the food was as good as anything you might expect in a fine restaurant. Plus, knowing that we had made the bruschetta, pasta, sauce, chicken, and even the tiramisu ourselves, made it taste even better. What favorite food-tour and cooking-class memories do you have from your European travels?
At you'll find money-saving travel tips, small-group tours, guidebooks, TV shows, radio programs, podcasts, and more on Florence.

What You Shouldn't Do When You Are in Italy
Visiting Italy is an amazing experience whether you are seeing the Roman ruins throughout the country in places like Rome or Naples, but for all the amazing things you should do in Italy (visit Venice, Florence, Rome, Ravenna, Amalfi Coast, eat until you explode) there are things you DON'T DO when you come to Italy & Here are our 12 things NOT TO DO in Italy when you are traveling Italy.
Filmed in Vicenza, Italy
Copyright Mark Wolters 2016
The Don'ts of Italy
1. Don't expect to get discount prices on fancy Italian luxury brands.
2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.
3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.
