Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom, Europe
Swansea, officially the City and County of Swansea, is a coastal city and county in Wales. It is Wales's second largest city. Swansea lies within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county area includes the Gower Peninsula and the Lliw uplands. The City and County of Swansea had a population of 239,000 in 2011, making it the second most populous local authority area in Wales after Cardiff. During its 19th-century industrial heyday, Swansea was a key centre of the copper industry, earning the nickname 'Copperopolis'. The port of Swansea initially traded in wine, hides, wool, cloth and later in coal. As the Industrial Revolution reached Wales,
the combination of port, local coal, and trading links with the West Country, Cornwall and Devon, meant that Swansea was the logical place to site copper smelting works. Smelters were operating by 1720 and proliferated. Following this, more coal mines (everywhere from north-east Gower to Clyne and Llangyfelach) were opened and smelters (mostly along the Tawe valley) were opened and flourished. Over the next century and a half, works were established to process arsenic, zinc and tin and to create tinplate and pottery. The city expanded rapidly in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was termed Copperopolis. From the late 17th century to 1801, Swansea's population grew by 500% the first official census (in 1841) indicated that, with 6,099 inhabitants, Swansea had become significantly larger than Glamorgan's county town, Cardiff, and was the second most populous town in Wales behind Merthyr Tydfil (which had a population of 7,705). However, the census understated Swansea's true size, as much of the built-up area lay outside the contemporary boundaries of the borough; the total population was actually 10,117. Swansea's population was later overtaken by Merthyr in 1821 and by Cardiff in 1881, although in the latter year Swansea once again surpassed Merthyr. Much of Swansea's growth was due to migration from within and beyond Wales in 1881, more than a third of the borough's population had been born outside Swansea and Glamorgan, and just under a quarter outside Wales. Through the 20th century, heavy industries in the town declined, leaving the Lower Swansea Valley filled with derelict works and mounds of waste products from them. The Lower Swansea Valley Scheme (which still continues) reclaimed much of the land. The present Enterprise Zone was the result and, of the many original docks, only those outside the city continue to work as docks; North Dock is now Parc Tawe and South Dock became the Marina. Little city-centre evidence, beyond parts of the road layout, remains from medieval Swansea; its industrial importance made it the target of bombing, known as the Blitz in World War II, and the centre was flattened completely. The city has three Grade One listed buildings, these being the Guildhall, Swansea Castle and the Morriston Tabernacle. Whilst the city itself has a long history, many of the city centre buildings are post-war as much of the original centre was destroyed by World War II bombing on the 19th, 20th and 21 February 1941 (the 'Three Nights Blitz'). Within the city centre are the ruins of the castle, the Marina, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea Museum, the Dylan Thomas Centre, the Environment Centre, and the Market, which is the largest covered market in Wales. It backs onto the Quadrant Shopping Centre which opened in 1978 and the adjoining St David's Centre opened in 1982. Other notable modern buildings are the BT Tower (formerly the GPO tower) built around 1970, Alexandra House opened in 1976, County Hall opened in July 1982. Swansea Leisure Centre opened in 1977; it has undergone extensive refurbishment which retained elements of the original structure and re-opened in March 2008. Swansea was granted city status in 1969, to mark Prince Charles's investiture as the Prince of Wales.
The Flame and Forge Kingdom Equipping Centre - Swansea Wales
The Lord has called us to establish a Kingdom Evangelism and Equipping Center in the heart of City Centre in Swansea, Wales! This center will stand as a beacon of light in the darkest area of the city, assisting those in the community out of the shadows of spiritualism, prostitution, addiction and poverty.
Swansea is the second largest city in Wales known for its thriving city centre, universities, scenic bay area and stunning mountain vistas. The Swansea area is also recognized throughout the Christian world as the cradle of the Welsh Revival, being home to Moriah Chapel and the ministry of Evan Roberts.
But Swansea is in desperate need of the Father’s Love. Behind the scenic beauty and Revival history, dark spiritual forces are hard at work attempting to pull this region down into the mire, as its people have forgotten their history and their song.
The belief in Jesus has declined more than 34% in Swansea over the last decade. This has been replaced with a 100 fold increase in agnosticism and “spiritual but not religious” classifications. As of 2011, 74% of Swansea youth under the age of 24 said they have no religion and this number is expected to increase again for the 2021 census. This vacuum has given rise to Christian churches and schools shutting their doors at an alarming rate, being replaced quickly with “Spiritualist” churches and mosques, with Spiritualism experiencing the quickest growth of all religions throughout Wales.
Drug addiction is rampant throughout Swansea and City Centre, with Swansea owning the distinction as having the worst opioid death rate in the United Kingdom.
Swansea is also known as the sex trade capital of Wales, with the High Street known as the Welsh Red Light district, where prostitutes charge as little as £15 for unprotected sex.
But where it is darkest, that’s when the light shines brightest!
It is within the center of this area that the Lord has called our family to plant a Kingdom based street evangelism and leadership equipping center!
This Kingdom Centre will have a retail storefront and will also foster a continual worship environment, featuring weekly worship events and 24 hour Worship Burns.
Situated in a high foot-traffic area, this beacon of light will be a launch point for street evangelism and outreach teams to work throughout the city, bringing the Kingdom to those that need it the most.
Another intent for the Kingdom Center is to be a place where the spiritually curious can come and be introduced to Jesus without the familiar structure of the church. Since the church is often regarded with suspicion in Wales, many have turned to “Spiritualist” churches where they are witnessing powerful supernatural phenomena. In response to this, our storefront will feature a large sign in the window that states “free spiritual readings,” enticing the spiritually curious to come inside where they will actually receive Holy Spirit guided prayer and be re-introduced to the TRUE supernatural love of Jesus Christ. In turn, once aware of who Jesus truly is, we will then point them to vetted ministries and local churches to help continue their discipleship journey.
This storefront will be a multi-church center designed to knit local & international ministries and leaders together into a greater fabric with all funds raised abroad.
Just Jesus. Just Kingdom.
This Kingdom Center will change the lives, the histories and the destinies of the people of Wales, breathing Revival fire back into their rediscovered song. When the hurting and broken within a community are provided with an opportunity to experience the life-giving power of Jesus, the result is regional transformation. The result is lives healed, families restored and cities renewed.
We have already seen countless testimonies of God’s hand at work in Wales. Join us as we step into an even greater measure of impact within the lives of the people of Swansea.
How you can get involved:
Prayer Covering - This is absolutely essential both home and abroad, especially as we literally take back the high places on High Street
Location - Current financial estimates place the cost of leasing, insuring and utilities of the facility at approximately $30,000 - $33,000 annually. In order to be available for government grants and aid, we will need to raise a year’s lease in advance.
Equipment - Once the lease is procured, we will need to raise additional monies for furniture, decor, musical equipment, electronics, etc. We will work diligently with local ministries and churches to outfit the facility as much as possible, therefore we estimate these costs to be in the range of $10,000.
Staffing, worship and evangelism teams - we’ve talked with a number of Kingdom based ministries and individuals who have pledged to support us in this vision. However, more will always be needed. Pray the workers and the volunteers are plentiful.
We hope you join us in this amazing endeavor, as we bring the Kingdom to the streets!

EXTINCTION REBELLION PROTEST SWANSEA CITY
As striking schoolchildren take to the streets and Extinction Rebellion brings global capitals to a standstill, the climate emergency has well and truly moved to the centre of public debate.
And when smoke from Australian wildfires obscures the sun in New Zealand – more than a thousand miles away – while Jakarta is swamped by unprecedented rainfall, the effects have never been more visible.
Worldwide economic stress and damage from natural disasters in 2018 totaled US$ 165 billion – half of which was uninsured. Yet even these catastrophic events do not fully express the extent of environmental risk facing the world today.
