A Few Seconds From Death as Train Approaches
CCTV footage of frantic rescue attempt by off duty policeman and fellow commuters emerges after woman faints and falls onto a train line.
Spanish police have released a clip of the officer leaping onto the rails and rushing to the stricken woman's aid despite a train being due to arrive just seconds after her fall.
The unnamed 52-year-old woman fell head first onto the tracks after collapsing while waiting for a Madrid Metro train at the city's Marques de Vadilla station on Monday afternoon.
Some commuters rush to the platform edge desperate to help the woman who is seen lying prone on the rails, while others run off to find help.
But, without a seconds thought for his own safety, the unnamed 39-year-old policeman, who was stood at the other end of the platform, sprang into action.
He is seen leaping down onto the tracks close to the entrance of the metro tunnel and sprinting along the rails.
Just as he reaches the woman the lights of an approaching train begin to emerge from the tunnel.
But fortunately for both the policeman and the woman he is trying to rescue, other commuters managed to get the train driver's attention by waving frantically and he is able to bring the train to a halt in time.
The policeman manages to drag the woman, who is unconscious and a dead weight, across the tracks and is helped by other rail passengers as he manages to lift her to the safety of the opposite platform from where she fell.
Fortunately a doctor was on hand at the station to treat the injured woman before paramedics could come to her aid.
The Metro de Madrid is the sixth longest underground rail network in the world and serves almost 650 million passengers each year.

Witch Trials Chelmsford witches, Agnes Waterhouse mother & Elizabeth Francis sister, Witch Assizes
Mother Waterhouse was a healer, and a defendant in the Chelmsford witch trials. In witchcraft Elizabeth Francis was not only her equal, but also her sister.
Elizabeth Francis stood accused of cursing a pregnant neighbor, causing a boy infant to be born paralyzed. To this crime she would freely confess. Five months later Elizabeth was furloughed from her prison cell.
A woman received a sentence to one year in prison in February 1566, a mere thirty miles from London. Elizabeth was furloughed from her prison cell for the purpose of giving testimony in the trial of another witch... her sister.
The county seat of the witchcraft trial court was in the town of Chelmsford. As the Gutenberg Press had been in use for more than a century, the enlightened judiciary of England permitted the publication of the testimony given at a witch trial in the form of unbound pamphlets, available for sale to the public.
The use of an evil pet known as a familiar, was common in Witchcraft narratives of the period. Elizabeth's familiar was a cat whose coat was white with spots. The familiar might execute the nefarious agenda of its owner, or it just might promulgate evil on its own. At times it was the witch's only friend.
One who confessed to being a witch would often dwell on stories of their charmed pet, to include the conversations had with it. Elizabeth Francis testified that at the age of 12 she began to learn the dark art at the foot of her grandmother, Eve. At the age of consent Grandmother gave her a cat and instructed that she feed her familiar lavishly with bread and milk, even if Elizabeth had to go without, which was not unusual in her neighborhood. The cat's name was Satan, and Eve told her granddaughter to let it sleep in a fine basket.
Elizabeth's first wish was to be rich. She made this request of the cat. Satan, bring me sheep. She testified the cat brought sheep into her pasture... 28 of them. However she was a poor steward. Those sheep that did not escape, grew sick and died.
Her next wish was to have Andrew Byles as her husband. He was a man of some wealth. The cat advised her to lay with Andrew, and she did. But the man refused to marry her, even though she found herself with child. She asked the cat to ruin his finances. His harvest fell to waste. She asked that he fall ill. The cat brushed against his leg, and Mr. Byles died.
This testimony was part of the trial of Elizabeth's sister, Agnes Waterhouse. Perhaps she was trying to distract attention from the charges against her sibling. But Elizabeth admitted that she visited her sister, to find her baking a cake in the oven. Elizabeth was in such a state of hunger that she made a trade of Satan for the cake. She instructed Agnes how to use the familiar and what its reward should be. For each service provided by the cat, it was to be fed one drop of blood, obtained by sticking one's flesh with a thorn. At the order of the magistrate, both women displayed marks on their arms and hands, appearing as red spots where in the past they had drawn their own blood.
Some women of limited means who bore the ill will of their neighbors, had magical ability to even the score, giving them a sense of empowerment in a society where they occupied the lowest rung. The so-called coven of witches was actually the support network they formed, because they were excluded from the women's network in town.
Agnes was called Mother Waterhouse because of her reputation as a healer. Now 64 years of age, she confessed at trial to the death of her husband, the death of a neighbor, and the wasting of another neighbor's livestock. She prayed to the court for the forgiveness of god.
Mother Waterhouse became the first woman executed for witchcraft in England when two days after her trial, she was taken to the gallows on the crest of Primrose Hill in Chelmsford. The English allowed examination by the public in the shadow of the hangman's noose. They demanded to know if Agnes ever went to church. She said, Yes. They demanded to know how she prayed. Agnes answered, The Lord's Prayer, and the Ave Maria.

Tearful wife fears husband was among 39 stowaways found dead in Essex
A container in which 39 migrants were found dead was part of a convoy of three lorries, it has been claimed - as two more suspected victims are named. Relatives of the suspected victims say more than 100 migrants were being brought to the UK on the lorries, but only two are believed to have completed their trips. The third, which was carrying the dead migrants, was delayed, according to Sky News. It is not known where the other two containers went.It comes as two more victims, Anna Bui Thi Nhung, 19, and Nguyen Dinh Tu, both from Vietnam, were also named as suspected victims.Pham Thi Tra My, 26, and Nguyen Dinh Luong, 20, are also suspected among the dead, with the former sending her mother a series of harrowing messages telling her she 'loved her' and was 'dying because she couldn't breathe'.One of the newly named suspected victims, Nguyen Dinh Tu, had a few months ago asked his wife Hoang Thi Thuong to help him raise £11,000 ($14,000) to cover the cost of an illicit trip from Germany to the United Kingdom.'I lost contact with him on October 21,' Thuong said with tears in her eyes. 'I have a big debt to pay, no hope, and no energy to do anything'. Hoang Thi Thuong, wife of Nguyen Dinh Tu, a Vietnamese suspected victim in a truck container in UK, holds her son Nguyen Dinh Dan at their home in Nghe An province, Vietnam Anna Bui Thi Nhung (right) and Nguyen Dinh Tu (left), both from Vietnam, have both now been named as suspected victims. The family Pham Thi Tra My, 26, say she paid people smugglers £30,000 to travel to the UK via China 'in search of a better life.' A human rights worker, who spoke with the family, has said they were struggling with debt when she decided to make the perilous journey In a photo released by the family of Nguyen Dinh Luong shows Nguyen, 20, posing for a selfie in this undated photo. Luong's family fears that he may be among the 39 people found dead in the back of a container truck in southeastern England Relatives of Anna Bui Thi Nhung, a Vietnamese suspected victim in a truck container in UK, read news about her at her home in Nghe An province, Vietnam Police and forensic officers investigate a lorry in which 39 bodies were discovered in the trailer on Wednesday. Sources have now claimed that bloodied hand marks were found insideTu's father said relatives in the United Kingdom had told him that Tu was inside the truck, and had been planning to pick him up.'They were supposed to pick him up at the drop-off point but they called and said Tu was in that truck,' Tu's father, Nguyen Dinh Sat, said.'I haven't heard anything from my son'. The mother and a sister of Anna Bui Thi Nhung cried as they set up an altar with incense and a photo of the missing 19-year-old where family and friends can pray at their home in Do Thanh village. The family heard from a friend living in the U.K. that 'Nhung is one of the victims,' said one of Nhung's relatives, who was visiting the missing teen's despaired mother. Truck horror migrants had been dead ‘at least 10 hours’
The 39 Chinese migrants whose bodies were found in a refrigerated lorry trailer in Essex had been dead for at least 10 hours before reaching the UK, it has been claimed.
Police, who have begun the process of moving the bodies, have been granted an extra 24 hours to question lorry driver Mo Robinson, 25, on suspicion of murdering the eight women and 31 men.
Eleven victims were taken by private ambulance from the Port of Tilbury to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.
The trailer arrived in Purfleet from Zeebrugge in Belgium at 12.30am on Wednesday.
The lorry and trailer then left shortly after 1.05am. Ambulance staff found the bodies in the container at Waterglade Industrial Park, Grays, just after 1.30am.
Belgian officials said the migrants would have been locked in the container at temperatures as low as –25C for at least 10 hours after the trailer arrived at Zeebrugge on Tuesday afternoon and before its departure for the UK.
The chief executive of Zeebrugge port, Joachim Coens, said the trailer would not have been interfered with after it arrived there.
“A refrigerated container in the port zone is completely sealed,” he told Belgian media.
“During the check, the seal is examined, as is the licence plate. “The driver is checked by cameras.”
The Mayor of Bruges, Dirk De fauw, echoed this message in an interview, saying trailers were filmed until their arrival on the ferry.
He reportedly insisted that the migrants were dead before they arrived at Zeebrugge, or they would have been detected by heat cameras.
“[To] break the seal, bring 39 people on-board and apply a new seal without being noticed, that chance is extremely small.”
He added: “The trailer is hermetically sealed.
“No heat is allowed in to keep the products at the same temperature.
“If you end up in such a box with 39 people, you’re going to die.”
The Irish company that owns the trailer said it was cooperating with police and insisted it had no connection to the driver, 25-year-old Mo Robinson Post-mortem examinations will be the next step in the investigation.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said recovering all the bodies would take time and the dignity of the victims was their primary concern.
Three properties in Northern Ireland have been raided and the National Crime Agency is working to establish if “organised crime groups” were involved.
On Wednesday, police searched three addresses in Northern Ireland as part of the investigation. Councillor Paul Berry said the village of Laurelvale, near Portadown, where the Robinson family live, was in “complete shock”.
The discovery echoes one in 2000 when the bodies of 58 Chinese illegal immigrants, who had paid a criminal gang to be smuggled into the UK, were found in a sealed, airless container in Dover.
Essex Police Deputy Chief Constable Pippa Mills said: “This is an incredibly sensitive and high-profile investigation, and we are working swiftly to gather as full a picture as possible as to how these people lost their lives.
“Our recovery of the bodies is ongoing and the post-mortem and identification processes, which will be lengthy and complex, can then begin.”
Home Secretary Priti Patel met with officers from the force to be updated on the investigation and local dignitaries and police gathered to open a book of condolence.
The trailer containing the 39 dead arrived at Purfleet from Zeebrugge in Belgium at around 12.30am on Wednesday, and the front section to which it was attached, known as the tractor, came from Northern Ireland via Holyhead in North Wales on Sunday.
The lorry and trailer left the port at Purfleet shortly after 1.05am and officers were called around 30 minutes later after ambulance staff made the discovery at Waterglade Industrial Park in Eastern Avenue, Grays.
The deaths follow warnings from the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Border Force of the increased risk of people-smuggling via Belgium and into quieter ports such as Purfleet.
The NCA previously said it had a “greater focus” on rising smuggler numbers in Belgium after the closure of a migrant camp, and a Border Force assessment highlighted Zeebrugge as being among “key ports of embarkation for clandestine arrivals”.
The NCA has also warned that criminal networks are suspected to have started targeting quieter ports on the east and south coasts of the UK, as well as the main Channel crossing between Calais and Dover.
Vigils for the 39 victims were held outside the Home Office in London and at the front of City Hall in Belfast yesterday
