Woodoaks Farm visit 20.09.12
Woodoaks Farm in Maple Cross was visited by a group of Councillors from TRDC and Bucks CC on 20.09.12. Meeting the local farming community was invaluable and to hear first-hand about the challenges farmers face on the rural urban fringe was a very interesting experience. The Woodoaks farm has been reduced in size by Compulsory purchase orders over a number of years dating back to 1950's when land was purchases for building William Penn school, now demolished and the land sold by Herts County Council for the building of houses. Now those very houses have produced children who require another school and one of the sites under consideration is another piece of land farmed by John & Sally Findlay of Woodoaks farm. Diversification is being considered using the 500 year old Black Barn which would need to be refurbished and funding is being investigated. The event was organised by The Colne Valley Partnership which has been replaced by a more streamlined Community Interest Company, The Colne Valley CIC.

Palm Tree Club - Bay Horse Hertford - 31st December 1983
Continuing my series of local band's on my YouTube channel.
I saw Palm Tree Club perform a few times in youth centres and pubs. There were also performances at Thundridge Church graveyard which were organised sporadically on the odd Saturday late night, early morning.
Local bands used to turn up there late at night and just perform. This was a land grab, no-one official was asked for permission to just set up and play as far as I recall.
My younger brothers band after Necro and pre-City Indians performed at these late night / early morning outdoor D.I.Y events on a couple of occasions, once in support of Palm Tree Club.
Nathan Moore, the vocalist had his bleached blond mohawk and Indian moccasins during this time and was in my older brothers year at school. I last saw Nathan Moore at Notting Hill Carnival in 1988 or 1989.
This single also featured Teeda, Nathan's sister and Tig Barber, who was the original drummer for the mighty Newtown Neurotics, the favourite sons of Harlow by a country mile.
The band performed reggae based pop music. The music was certainly not ‘dread', and it was certainly 'pop' but sticking your head in the bass speaker at full volume and it don't sound so bad!
Surprisingly to those who hear this live performance, two of the tracks were recorded at Mad Professors studio Awira, engineered by Mad Professor himself and releases as a 7” single in 1984.
Hard to hear the connection between the UK's premier dub master and that record by the Palm Tree Club, but it's there. Trust me.
This live performance I recorded on my cassette tape recorder on New Year’s Eve 1983 at this small pub. The pub was packed and the crowd was raucous. Also performing were Suicide Tapes. I recorded that bands performance and that has also been placed up on this YouTube channel.
I was a little lost with trying to find some visuals to accompany the audio. I have no flyers for this band, no photographs, and there is toss-all online. I decided to place two photographs I took in Jamaica one time. One photograph of Rusty and his bin liner full of collie, and one of the areas where Rusty lives / stays.
Nathan Moore went to become a Smash Hits pin up some time after Palm Tree Club with one of the first (?) manufactured 'boy bands' Brother Beyond.

THE RÉSISTANCE | The Book of Oddjob
I made this last year. It was based on a concept for a play I thought of ages ago of retelling the story of Job from the Bible, but with two CCTV operators standing in for God and the Devil.
For those not familiar with the more bonkers parts of the good book, God and Satan have a bet (no really, they do) that no matter how shitty Job's life gets, he'll not speak ill of The Lord.
God and Satan go down together (no really, they do), murder his wife and kids (really), ruin his crops (yep), burn down his house (eek), make all his hair fall out (cruel) and he's left at the side of the road, broke, naked, bald and covered in itchy scabs (ygads!).
But, after all that, he still thinks The Lord is the most amazing thing of all time ever.
As you'll see, this tale translates incredibly well to #Brexit.
(Apologies for my dodgy acting... I'm not an actor and the film was mostly ad-libbed.)
