Carnarvon - Western Australia
The climate is probably about the best of any town in W.A. The winter is relatively mild and the strong south westerly winds that blow most days during the summer keep the temperature down so that it is usually cooler here than Geraldton 500km to the south and much cooler than Exmouth which is only just over 250km north.
Having said theat, Carnarvon can be intermittantly hit by flooding and cyclones with the most recent damage being done by a large flood in 2010 and by a cyclone in 2015.
Carnarvon is the true gateway to the tropical north in W.A. Shopping isn't too bad with a choice of Woolworths and IGA supermarkets in town. It is an interesting stop on the way to the 'top end'. There used to be good campsites not too far away at Bush Bay to the south, Rocky Pool to the east but the shire is becoming unfriendly to campers who do not want to stay in caravan parks.

Carnarvon WA Promotional Film 2012.mov
This film I shot in and around Carnarvon in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia as part of a re branding of the town and surrounding areas. If you haven't been, you must go and take a look. It is nothing like I expected. Carnarvon is a beautiful town. I produced two TV Commercials and four radio spots as well.

Carnarvon - Australia Travel Video
Carnarvon, Australia Travel Video - On Yinggarda country at the mouth of the Gascoyne River, fertile Carnarvon, with its fruit and vegetable plantations and thriving fishing industry, makes a pleasant stopover between Denham and Exmouth. This friendly, vibrant town has quirky attractions, a range of decent accommodation, well-stocked supermarkets and great local produce. The tree-lined CBD exudes a tropical feel, and the palm-fringed waterfront is a relaxing place to amble. The long picking season from March to January ensures plenty of seasonal work. Floods devastated the area in December 2010 and many businesses are still recovering.
