Stromness Orkney Islands Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of Stromness, located on the southwestern part of mainland of the Orkney Islands. A long established seaport with the old town clustered along the characterful and winding main street, flanked with houses and shops built from local stone, with narrow lanes and alleys branching off it. There is a ferry link from Stromness to Scrabster on the north coast of mainland Scotland. First recorded as the site of an inn in the 16th century, Stromness became important during the late 17th century, when England was at war with France and shipping was forced to avoid the English Channel. Ships of the Hudson's Bay Company were regular visitors, as were whaling fleets. Large numbers of Orkneymen, many of whom came from the Stromness area, served as traders, explorers and seamen for both. Captain Cook's ships, Discovery and Resolution, called at the town in 1780 on their return voyage from the South Seas where Cook had been killed. The name Stromness comes from the Norse Straumsnes. Straum refers to the strong tides that rip past the Point of Ness through Hoy Sound to the south of the town. Nes means headland. Stromness thus means headland protruding into the tidal stream . In Viking times the anchorage where Stromness now stands was called Hamnavoe, meaning peaceful or safe harbour .

Visit to Orkney part 2
A visit to Orkney ended up being a little homemade documentary for 10 year old Michael Yuill, edited by Davy Lees a member of the group Haggerdash, who also appears in this short film.
Sadly the quality of the DVD was poor as it has been played so often, before being rescued onto you tube, It had been put together by cheap camera clips phone photos and everything that a video editor, (Davy) had nightmares about, hope you can move past the poor sound and poor pictures and enjoy the presenters educational and child like journey around the island of Orkney during his summer holidays and if his sweet voice doesn't make you smile the funny out take at the end might.
And a final word for our dear departed friend Nick who plays and sings with us on the Ferry journey home, God Bless, we miss you RIP.

After 5 years of hiding in the west-country since his last album, musical oddity Ott gives Twisted Records his second solo offering under the name 'Skylon'. In the last 5 years, the improvements in software and hardware have given maestro's like Ott even more scope to toy with and more quality in the results. A fresh bag of tricks you might say! You can expect unique modern electro-acoustic dubs with generous spatterings of indigenous sounds from around the world ladled into the mix. But that's not all, there are a few tracks straying beautifully into different genres whilst maintaining the laid back but up beat dub vibe that we know and love.
Add that to the usual mind-blowing production, arrangement, song writing skills and jaw-dropping effects combos and you've got a sonic feast emanating from your speakers. His use of melody is perfectly balanced between too much and too little, creating a saturated but not overwhelming wall of emotive sound. We've said it before and we'll say it again, the man is a genius.
Ott is no stranger to the studio, he has produced, arranged and recorded for world famous artists including Sinead O'Connor, The Orb, and Brian Eno. Working in a wide range of the best studios in the UK from Butterfly Studios, Sarm East and West, Real World, and Ridge Farm to Foel in Wales. He has been interviewed in the producers/engineers bible Sound on Sound for his studio wits and wisdoms. Highly regarded by music moguls such as Greg Hunter, Simon Posford, Martin 'Youth' Glover and many more, this second album from him will merely reinforce his status as a leader in art of modern music.
His debut album Blumenkraft was a huge success and spawned a massive following amongst listeners and producers alike. Skylon will undoubtedly gather more fans worldwide

27/32 Sherkin Island to Kilmore Quay. The great adventure turns eastwards on the run for home.
The boat insurance people who share your passion…
The Great Motorboat Tour progresses along the southern coast of Ireland heading eastwards again for the first time since leaving Falmouth. John and Fionn enjoy local colour and traditional Irish music as they pass Cork. The bright sun makes it difficult to spot obstacles on or just below the surface. Kinsale is very busy with pleasure craft and the boys have difficulty in finding fuel. Gale warnings mean they find themselves landlocked - but with no pubs!

27/32 Sherkin Island to Kilmore Quay. The great adventure turns eastwards on the run for home.
We got lucky last night. We went into Baltimore and the wind was already kicking in there. The harbourmaster suggested that wherever we stayed we were gonna have an uncomfortably ride – why not just come across the Sherkin just across the bay. There’s an old barge here that’s used as a pontoon. It’s owned by the hotel and you’ve got to go and pay your fees at the hotel at the pub here. So we went up there – really lucky – there was a group of traveling boat-bound musicians. What these guys do every year is they get together on their boats, come from Cork and sail around a few of the little harbours on the southwest coast. Every evening they get together and play some Irish music – brilliant it was.
Anyway, forecast this morning was going to be horrible strong winds – woke up and it’s blue skies! It might be windy out at sea but it’s looking nice in here. So we’re going to make the most of it, seize the moment and get out to sea again, heading east, past Cork and as far as we can get along the coast of southern Ireland.
We’re heading east into the rising sun. It’s the first time we’ve done this since day two of the trip, when we were leaving Salcombe in the morning. So it really gives a feel of the homeward leg now. Difficulty in these conditions though – we’ve got a following wind, there’s a little sea in front of us and the sun on the ocean is spotting pots. It’s a fairly heavily fished area here, so we’re both trying to keep our eyes well out for pots, any signs of buoys here. Definitely got the “homeward leg” feel about it now.
We’ve just pulled into the marina at Kinsale – we’re gonna go into town and see if we can find some breakfast. It’s strange – we’ve been out around the coast, all around Scotland, west of Ireland and suddenly we pull into a boat haven, where every mooring is taken on the pontoons, every pontoon birth is taken… boats and yachts everywhere. It’s like we’re back in boat civilisation again!
Just been for a good breakfast in Kinsale, and while we were there we thought we’d top up with some fuel. But even though it said in the marina’s guide, the main marina there didn’t have it, they only had it by tanker. We thought it’d be alright anyway – we were gonna head across a bay to Kilmore Quay. As we left we thought we probably do need some and realised there was another marina, but we missed the guy by 15 minutes as he was off to Cork and wouldn’t be back until 2pm. So we thought we’d tuck into this little bay here for a bit of shelter and fuel up from our tanks, because we’ve got lots of tanks with us!
Having a nice time Fi?
Stoked, yeah it’s the last one. 60 litres in each tank, and quite easily done actually – nice pourers these are.
So we’re good now and will cross this bay to Kilmore Quay before we cross over to Wales. We can top up there as well.
We’re in Kilmore Quay which is the very south-eastern point of Ireland – our jumping off point for getting back to Wales. But as we were out at sea it really blew up – luckily it was following us. While we were out there we got gale and small ship warnings in our area. It’s really blowing up at force 7/8 at the moment, strong winds out there – no way we’re gonna get out tomorrow.
