STORYLINE
Deadly floodwaters that have cut a swath across northeastern Australia flowed onto the streets of the nation's third-largest city on Wednesday, forcing people to flee suburbs and skyscrapers as rescuers elsewhere searched for 67 people still missing.
Almost 20-thousand homes in Brisbane were expected to be swamped in the city of about 2 (m) million by the time the Brisbane River reaches its expected peak on Thursday, Mayor Campbell Newman said.
The figures were constantly being revised as the threat became clearer, and it was getting consistently worse.
At least 22 people have died in Australia's northeastern state of Queensland since drenching rains that began in November sent swollen rivers
spilling over their banks, inundating an area larger than France and Germany combined.
The crisis escalated when a violent storm sent a 26-foot (eight meter), fast-moving torrent, described as an inland instant tsunami, crashing
through the city of Toowoomba and smaller towns to the west of Brisbane on Monday.
Twelve people were killed in that flash flood, and 67 remain missing.
Emergency sirens wailed throughout Brisbane on Wednesday afternoon.
Boats torn from their moorings floated down the rising river along with massive amounts of debris.
A popular waterside restaurant's pontoon was swept away by the current and floated downstream.
Some streets and riverside parks were covered with water, though no major flooding was reported early Wednesday.
Two evacuation centres have been established in the city and Newman said up to 6,500 were expected to use them in coming days.
Officials have urged anyone in a growing list of low-lying suburbs to prepare their homes, then get out to stay with friends and family and keep off the streets.
The Brisbane River broke its banks on Tuesday and was continuing its rise on Wednesday, partly controlled by a huge dam upstream that has had its floodgates opened because it is brimming after weeks of rain across the state.
Water levels were expected to stay at peak levels until at least on Saturday, but many people won't be able to access their homes for several days beyond that, Queensland state Premier said.
Some residents waited in line for up to four hours on Tuesday to get sandbags being handed out at emergency services depots.
Supermarket shelves were emptied of bottled water, milk and batteries.
The mayor urged people to stay away from downtown, and most office towers stood virtually empty on Wednesday.

Queensland Air Museum on the Sunshine Coast
#visitsunshinecoast Unless you're an avid aviation fan, you might be surprised to learn that one of best air museums in Australia is located on the Sunshine Coast.
Queensland Air Museum has an impressive collection of historical military and passenger aircraft, aircraft engines, equipment, photographs, models and books.
Collections highlight the aviation history of Queensland and Australia, such as displays on Charles Kingsford Smith, women in aviation, World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, Qantas Airways and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The centrepiece is a General Dynamics F-111, which is on loan from the Royal Australian Air Force. The F-111s were best known for their fiery dump and burn exhibitions at air shows around Australia. They could fly at two-and-a-half times the speed of sound and when they retired were still one of the fastest strike aircraft in the world.
The museum also has operational aircraft and engines dating from the 1940s.
The sound of a 1500-horsepower 14-cylinder radial engine powering up is an unforgettable experience. You can hear the engines roar to life at the museum's Aero Engine Run Day on 28 September 2013 (10am to 4pm). Scheduled run times are 11am, 12.30 pm and 2pm. Toyota Huski 5SDK10 skid steer review | Earthmovers & Excavators
In this video, TradeEarthmovers.com.au chief heavy machinery reviewer Ron Horner climbs into the cabin of a Toyota Huski 5SDK10 skid-steer loader to give it a bit of a workout.
He’s immediately impressed with the comfort and visibility.
This, as he explains in his full review, was a bit of a worry going into Toyota Material Handling Australia’s (TMHA) yard at Larapinta in Brisbane.
I usually give any of the smaller machines a wide berth when it comes to operating, Ron says. I find that the confined cabin space, short wheelbase and non-uniform controls tend to be at odds with this old, worn out body and its ever-expanding waistline and rear end.
Only those with some age on them or carrying old injuries will understand what I mean.

ANTICS:Tales from the Bug Apple Part 2
Made in 1993, Antics makes A Bug's Life and Antz look stone-age! That's because we're talking about space-age bugs with credit cards, shrinks and anti-gravity, who live in an insect New York called Antlantis, one million years from now. I created Antics in 1991. This trailer was completed in 1994 at Bug Apple Pictures in Brisbane, Australia. Animation by Shanghai Animation Studios. Animation director Ray Van Steenwyk. Antics had the producer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles behind it, because he thought it was the best thing he'd seen since the Turtles. Warner Bros in LA were red hot to sign a deal, but it all fell over at the last minute, for reasons our US representatives at the time never satisfactorily explained. Antics hasn't dated though and it's Magimation's intention to redevelop the show in 3D animation. © All Rights Reserved

・Floating Flower Garden; Flowers and I are of the same root, the Garden and I are one
A floating flower garden filled with living flowers that float up and down in relation to the movement of people in the space.
When a viewer gets close to this flower-filled space, the flowers close to the viewer rise upwards all at once, creating a hemispherical space with the viewer at its center. In other words, although the whole space is filled with flowers, a hemispherical space is constantly being created with the viewer at its center and the viewer is free to move around wherever they want. If many viewers get close to one another, the dome spaces link up to form one single space. In this interactive floating flower garden viewers are immersed in flowers, and become completely one with the garden itself.
Over 2,300 floating flowers bloom in the space. These flowers are alive and growing with each passing day. Each flower has a partner insect and the scent of the flowers becomes stronger at the time that the insect is most active, as a result the scent of the air in the garden space changes according to the time of day, morning, noon, and evening.
Japanese Zen gardens are said to have been born as a place for Zen priests to carry out training so that they can become one with nature, the garden is a microcosm of the vastness of the surrounding natural mountain areas where they gathered to train.
There is a Zen kōan in china (a question or story that is part of a Zen priests theological training) called, Nansen’s Flower. A man named Rikukô Taifu, while talking with Nansen, said, Jô Hoshi says, ‘Heaven and I are of the same root. All things and I are of the same substance.’ How wonderful this is!. Nansen, pointing at a flower in the garden said, People of these days see this flower as if they were in a dream.
A person will become integrated with a flower when they look at a flower and the flower looks at them, possibly at this time the person will truly see the flower for the first time.
・Floating Flower Garden; 花と我と同根、庭と我と一体 / Floating Flower Garden; Flowers and I are of the same root, the Garden and I are one
From Brisbane to Nadi, Virgin Blue Australia, Pacific Ocean
Virgin Australia Airlines, formerly Virgin Blue Airlines, is Australia's second-largest airline as well as the largest by fleet size to use the Virgin brand. Now based in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, the airline was co-founded by British businessman Richard Branson and former Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey. It was established in 2000 with two aircraft operating on a single route, and suddenly found itself catapulted to the position of Australia's second airline after the collapse of Ansett Australia in September 2001. The airline has grown to directly serve 29 cities in Australia from hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, using a fleet of narrow-body Boeing and Embraer jets; and Airbus and Boeing widebody jets. After several years operating as a low-cost carrier it improved its services to become a so-called (self-described) New World Carrier essentially a business model which offers the guest the choice of purchasing a ticket with aspects of the no frills approach of low-cost carriers or paying a little more to receive services more in line with full-service airlines in order to compete more effectively with Qantas in the business travel market. In 2011 it took this strategy further by introducing new uniforms; new catering options on board; new widebody aircraft to compete with Qantas on Perth -- Sydney services; and the concurrent introduction of business class in January 2012; together with a new livery and renaming of the brand to Virgin Australia. Virgin Australia was launched as Virgin Blue in August 2000, with two Boeing 737-400 aircraft, one leased from then-sister airline Virgin Express. Initially offering seven return flights a day between Brisbane and Sydney, this has since been expanded to cover all major Australian cities and many holiday destinations. The Virgin Blue name was the result of an open competition; it was a play on the redominantly red livery and the Australian slang tradition of calling a red-headed male 'Blue' or 'Bluey'. The timing of Virgin Blue's entry into the Australian market was fortunate as it was able to fill the vacuum created by the failure of Ansett Australia in September 2001. Ansett's failure allowed Virgin to grow rapidly to become Australia's second domestic carrier, rather than just a cut-price alternative to the established players. It also gave Virgin access to terminal space without which growth would have been significantly limited. Delays in negotiating access to the former Ansett terminal at Sydney Airport however forced Virgin to use its original terminal there—a collection of prefabricated buildings without aerobridges—longer than was needed. As the airline grew, it acquired new equipment, enabling it to phase-out its older 737-400s in favour of 737-700 and −800 series aircraft with modern glass cockpits, winglets and greater fuel efficiency. Virgin Group's holding in Virgin Australia has since been reduced, initially via a sale of a half interest to Australian logistics conglomerate Patrick Corporation, and later by a public float. In early 2005 Patrick launched a hostile takeover for Virgin Blue. Patrick had been unhappy for some time with the company's direction. By the closure of the offer, Patrick held 62% of the company, giving it control. Virgin Group retains a 25% share. In May 2006 Toll Holdings acquired Patrick and became the majority owner of Virgin Blue. In July 2008 Toll sold its majority holding via a special dividend and now holds 1.7% of the company. As at June 2013 Air New Zealand owned 23% of the company. Virgin Blue previously used a familiar formula pioneered by airlines such as Southwest Airlines and Ryanair eliminating costs such as included in-flight meals and printed tickets in favour of selling food on-board and using telephone and internet booking systems. It also cut costs in the past by limiting the number of airports serviced and by operating one type of aircraft, the Boeing 737. This strategy changed with the introduction of a second type into the fleet. The airline ordered 20 Embraer E-jets, in a mix of six E170s and 14 E190s. These were ordered specifically so that the airline could re-enter the Sydney--Canberra market that it abandoned in 2004, and to fly to less populous areas. The first E-170 arrived in Australia in September 2007 and by the end of the year the three on initial order had been delivered. These were placed on limited-frequency services before full-scale operations were launched on 4 February 2008 with services from Sydney to Canberra (branded as 'Capital Jet' services), Mackay in Queensland, and the New South Wales regional centres of Port Macquarie and Albury, which were promoted with a one-cent fare.
