Newcastle Railway Station - featuring LNER A3 60103 'Flying Scotsman'
A look at Newcastle railway station on the afternoon of Tuesday 10th May 2016.
Newcastle is a major railway hub in the north east of England and so always much to see. Long distance services between here and London Kings Cross southbound and to Edinburgh and Aberdeen northbound are provided by Virgin Trains East Coast whilst there are services to the Midlands and destinations to the south of England provided by Arriva Crosscountry. Local services are provided by Northern Rail to Carlisle, Morpeth, Nunthorpe, Hexham, Sunderland and the Metrocentre.
The station is also served by the Tyne and Wear Metro underground station which runs underground through Newcastle city centre and then on the surface using former British Railway lines to serve the various districts of Newcastle and Gateshead including Tynemouth and South Shields.
At the end of this video LNER Class A3 4-6-2 number 60103 (4472) 'Flying Scotsman' is seen arriving and departing with 'The Cathedrals Express'. This locomotive would have been a familiar sight here in the days of steam.
