Video we took at the Fort Frances Museum of the photo album showing the construction of the Fort Frances Kraft Mill in the early 1970's.
The Kraft mill chemically converted wood chips into pulp for paper making at the Fort Frances and International Falls paper mills.
The museum showcase of the Pulp and Paper and logging industry was celebrating 100 years in the Fort a Frances and International Falls area. (Sadly, The Fort Frances mill was shut down shortly before the 100th anniversary )

Fort Frances Markets
Fort Frances has many markets around town that offer meats, jewelery, treats, jams, dish cloths, pies, blankets and so much more. Market Thursdays is in front of the Museum on Scott Street every Thursday and people are able to sell their handcrafted jewelery, crafts and food. Sometimes buskers even join in for some fine melodies as people walk down Scott Street. The Clover Valley Farmers Market is open every saturday and they sell fresh vegetables, jams, and just about everything your family is looking for from the market. The Clover Valley Farmers Market also offers fresh baking and a variety of elk products.
Switching the Fort Frances Yard on the CP Rail Manitoba & Minnesota Sub.
Fort Frances is a major division point on the CP Rail M & M Sub. All trains change crews there, and many drop off and pick up cars. Watch as yard switcher SW9 #329 picks up cars from a mixed train going from Duluth to Winnipeg, and adds new cars to the consist.
NDP Forestry Town Halls- Highlights- Fort Frances & Thunder Bay- Part One
Two Forestry Town Hall meetings were held to listen to concerns of the public by John Rafferty, MP - Rainy River. The first night held in Fort Frances and the next in Thunder Bay worked towards addressing the concerns brought forward by people who work in the forestry industry or who have small businesses. Some key points brought forward in this hightlights video were the Black Liquor Subsidies, Abitibi - Bowater Financial Concerns, & credit protection for small business. Fort Ontario and the Safe Haven Refugee Center Museum
This is a visit to the Safe Haven Museum in Oswego. Safe Haven was the only Refugee Camp for displaced persons in the United States during WWII. The camp was home to almost 1,000 Holocaust/ War Victim Survivers. The museum has a beautiful display showing not only the history of Safe Haven but the story of the people that it sheltered. The TV Movie Haven is based on this true story.
What's up with the Point?
As of May 1st, the lease at Pither's Point Park between the town of Fort Frances and the First Nations governing the land expires. However, this month a short term agreement between the two groups was reached.

It's no secret that there are financial worries in the district directly related to Abitibi-Bowater declaring bankruptcy. But is this anything new? We talk to Ron Anderson (formerly of Betty's), Jim Cumming (Times Publisher) and Pam Hawley (Museum Curator), about the current state of the mill and how it has effected the economic situation in Fort Frances historically.
