Pasadena City Hall.
Pasadena City Hall, completed in 1927, serves as the central location for city government in the City of Pasadena, California and it is a significant architectural example of the City Beautiful movement of the 1920s.
Pasadena City Hall is one of the finest examples of the California Mediterranean style. It is the dominant building in the Pasadena Civic Center, a complex of government, institutional and cultural buildings that epitomizes the City Beautiful movement.
Since its opening on December 27, 1927, 80-year old Pasadena City Hall has remained one of the most distinctive public buildings in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
An official building of imposing beauty, massive yet graceful, and suited to a land of flowers and sunshine is what the Pasadena Board of Directors (called the City Council in modern times) had in mind when they undertook to build the present City Hall.
The way had been prepared in 1923, when the people of Pasadena passed a bond issue of $3.5 million to establish a civic center. The Chicago firm of Bennett, Parsons and Frost was commissioned to draw up a civic center plan. The planners established Garfield Avenue as an axis, on which City Hall was to be the central element, with the Pasadena Public Library to the north and the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to the south. Also included in the original design were the Pasadena Police Department, Pasadena Municipal Court, YMCA, YWCA, Southern California Gas Company and United States Post Office. Over the years the new police building and county court house have been added. The YMCA building is now Centennial Place, a single-room-occupancy residential complex, and the Southern California Gas Company building now serves as the city's Permit Center. The YWCA building is unoccupied because of seismic and other issues.
Pasadena City Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 28, 1980, (listing number is 80-000813) as a contributor to the Pasadena Civic Center District; the listed significance is at the national level. As quoted from the National Register of Historic Places Inventory -- Nomination form: The district, a Civic Center designed by Bennett, Parsons and Frost, is a nationally significant example of civic art in the 'City Beautiful' style of the 1920's. The main features of the plan were actually executed, and the key buildings (including City Hall) actually built, by nationally recognized architects in a homogeneous style.
The City Hall has long been a favorite shooting location for filmmakers. The courtyard was used in the 1995 movie A Walk in the Clouds to portray a Napa Valley town square. It has also been used as an embassy in the Mission: Impossible television series, and a villa in Charlie Chaplin's Oscar-nominated 1940 film The Great Dictator. Pasadena City Hall currently serves as the city hall of fictional Pawnee, Indiana, in the television show Parks and Recreation. The dome is visible through the window of the main characters' apartment building in the television show The Big Bang Theory.
From a distance, Pasadena City Hall has always looked as though it has withstood the test of time. However, the building was showing signs of age by the late 20th century. The 1920s building did not meet modern building codes, and studies indicated that a major earthquake could destroy several parts of the building and likely result in a loss of life. The concrete walls had many deep cracks, and two of the stairway towers had considerable damage. There was also water damage from years of storms with little to no repair and maintenance. An effort to rehabilitate the aging building began in the late 1990s, led by Architectural Resources Group of San Francisco, CA.
In July 2004, the building was vacated in order to allow for a complete overhaul of the structure. Over the course of three years, all offices and council chambers were renovated, the facade was restored, the building was adapted to meet ADA standards, HVAC systems were replaced and modernized, and new landscaping and architectural lighting was installed. To help ensure it would withstand future earthquake activity, the building was lifted off its foundation, equipped with structural base isolators and given a new foundation. The renovation of Pasadena City Hall earned a LEED Gold certification.
Following construction, staff moved back starting in April 2007 and City Hall was fully operational again by July. At the time, the Los Angeles Times noted: In a city where historic preservation is much like a civic obsession, City Hall has long been among the crown jewels of Pasadena, along with the Colorado Street Bridge, the Rose Bowl and the Gamble House. Although the renovation has been among the costliest public works projects in Pasadena, city officials decided that they couldn't risk losing the landmark in another quake.

South Pasadena, California. A Very Personal Walk.
In this video I show you South Pasadena, California. I am walking through this town with my camera. I lived in this town in 1994. This was the year I came to the United States. South Pasadena was the first place I live in the United States. I am walking with my camera to the places in South Pasadena which was once new and foreign to me. Today a lot has changed, but some things are just the same as they were in 1994.
South Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 25,619, up from 24,292 at the 2000 census. It is located in the West San Gabriel Valley. It is 3.42 square miles in area and lies between the much larger City of Pasadena, of which it was once a part, and the metropolis of Los Angeles.[10] South Pasadena is the oldest self-builder of floats in the historic Tournament of Roses Parade.
South Pasadena's streets are lined with numerous species of native California trees. These include redwood, sequoia, ash, walnut, and sycamore. Some non-native trees, such as sweetgum, are also seen. Because there are very few stucco-clad Spanish Colonial houses and virtually no palm trees in some parts of the city, South Pasadena is a popular stand-in for Midwestern and Northeastern towns in motion picture and television productions. South Pasadena sits less than 10 miles (16 km) from Downtown Los Angeles; substantial numbers of residents work either in Bunker Hill or as professors and staff at the University of Southern California.
South Pasadena can often be seen in motion picture productions with its beautiful tree-lined streets and anywhere in America feel. Such movies as Freaky Friday, The Terminator, Gone with the Wind, Halloween, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, American Pie, The Girl Next Door, Legally Blonde, 13 Going on 30, Back to the Future, Mr. Deeds, Bruce Almighty, Old School, The Ugly Truth, and License to Wed are just a few of the notable films shot on location in South Pasadena. Notable television series that have been filmed there include Parenthood, Family, Boston Public, Nip/Tuck, Desperate Housewives, Cold Case, Bones, Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Big Love, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Sirhan Sirhan Home in Pasadena
Sirhan Bishara Sirhan is a Palestinian of Jordanian citizenship who was convicted of the 1968 assassination of United States Senator Robert F. Kennedy. It is said that he was a Rosicrucian who was hypnotized by staring into a candle repeating kill Kennedy over and over. He says he does not remember killing Kennedy. This could be true, he was used by someone like a biological robot, the Rosicrucians are a secret society affiliated with the Illuminati. I used to live about four blocks away from him at the time. My sister said she thinks she saw him working at a small grocery on Lake Avenue, and he seemed rude. The fact is at this time I knew that Robert Kennedy would win the election and become our next President, Then when Sirhan shot him I knew Richard Nixon would win. With one bullet Sirhan changed the course of history! John Kennedy had been assassinated because he was about to expose the Federal Reserve as a conspiracy to control the U.S. and they were afraid Robert would carry on where his brother left off.

A Walk Around The Intersection of Fair Oaks and Colorado, Old Pasadena
Old Pasadena's center is the postal zero/zero intersection of all Pasadena of Fair Oaks Avenue (N-S) and Colorado Boulevard (E-W). The first of the businesses of the original Indiana Colony were established here. J. D. Hollingsworth's general store served as the main supplier for the town as well as the post office when mail arrived from Los Angeles.
On the north-west corner was the Grand Hotel, in a building originally owned by Barney Williams, where the Williams family had run a general store on the ground floor. On the south-west corner (1 Fair Oaks Avenue) stood Williams Hall, also owned by the Williams family; this building was re-modeled in 1902 and became known as the Dodsworth Building, and now houses the Dodsworth Hotel.
The first meeting of Masons in Pasadena, later to become Pasadena Masonic Lodge No. 272, took place on 20 February 1883. A meeting in the library hall followed in October, at which the newly elected officials decided to make Williams Hall their permanent meeting place. An ornate front, similar to the facade of the present lodge, was erected on the upper story of the Colorado Boulevard building by H. Ridgway, an architect who was Master of the lodge in 1886. The Lodge continued to grow, and by 1917 it encompassed three separate lodges and fourteen affiliated bodies.
From the 1940s until the early 1970s, the Dodsworth Building, still displaying the masonic compass symbol on the inscribed stone in front of the building on its lower sides, contained a five-story furniture store belonging to Harry Steinberg and his son Albert Philip Steinberg, a 32nd degree mason and Shriner; that cornerstone now sits at the southwest corner of the Pasadena Masonic Temple at 200 S. Euclid Avenue.
Old Pasadena, often referred to as Old Town Pasadena or just Old Town, is the original commercial center of Pasadena, a city in California, United States that arose from one of the most prosperous areas of the state, and had a latter day revitalization after a period of decay.
