Blue Mountains Walks: The Giant Stairway, Leura Forest and Fern Bower Katoomba NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
This is another popular Blue Mountains walk - views, steps and ladders, waterfalls and the quiet rain forest.
I started and finished at Carrington Park, taking 3-4 hours for the round trip: Prince Henry Cliff Walk to the Three Sisters, down the Giant Stairway to the Dardanelles Pass, along this to Leura Forest and ascending to Cliff Drive by the Fern Bower track. Exhilarating!

Three Sisters and The Giant Stairway in Katoomba Australia
Katoomba - Three Sisters, Giant Stairway, Federal Pass, Dardanelles Pass
The giant staircase, Katoomba, NSW, Australia.
After a hike down the 900 stairs of the giant staircase that runs beside the Three Sisters, we needed a break before hiking the further 2hours to the scenic railway.

An easy afternoon's walk down the famous Giant Stairway at Katoomba on the Blue Mountains.
Even on a misty, wet, cloud covered day the walk is very rewarding. Starting at Katoomba Station, follow the main road through past the shops to Echo Point. From here, follow the signs to the Three Sisters Walk, then to the Giant Stairway.
The stairway descends some 900 steps and takes you the bottom of the cliffs and to the junction with the Dardanelles Pass. Turn right and follow the track to the junction with the famous Federal Pass.
This track will take you beneath the Three Sisters and Echo Point. After passing the waterfall, turn right at the junction with Furber Steps. An easier climb out than the Giant Stairway will take you through some magnificent temperate rain forest and offer opportunities for breathtaking views back to the Three Sisters.
The climb ends conveniently with a coffee shop. Then an easy stroll through residential areas of Katoomba will take you back to Katoomba Station.
An easy afternoons walk, although lots and lots of steps.
Katoomba bushwalk, Furber Steps, Federal Pass, Giant Stairway
Bushwalking near Katoomba, down the cliffs at the Furber steps, along the valley below (Federal Pass) to the Giant Stairway at the base of the Three Sisters. We got to film a lyrebird during the bushwalk.

From the bottom station of Katoomba's Scenic Railway a track goes around the base of the cliffs to the west, leading via the 1931 landslide site to the Golden Stairs and the Ruined Castle. This route follows that taken in the nineteenth century by a tramway built to bring coal and kerosene shale from the mines to the inclined tramway ascending the cliffs.
On this walk I follow the track as far as the landslide. It was a good feeling to get away from the noisy site this part of Scenic World has become. Along the way I enjoyed the birdsong, the rock strata and the ever changing vegetation.

This walk looks quite lengthy on a map, but it actually took less than 3 hours. It was good for the leg muscles!
From Scenic World I walked to Echo Point and the Three Sisters, down the Giant Stairway then via the Dardanelles and Federal Passes to the bottom of the Scenic Railway. I chose to climb back up via Furber Steps.
