The Gibbon Experience Official
Illegal logging, commercial cropping, excessive slash-and-burn practices, overall pressure on land and mismanagement are together eradicating tropical forests.
For that reason, the Gibbon Experience was given in Laos a mandate to think differently - and act.
From the forest canopy dreamt a sustainable future for the Bokeo forest. Since 1996 we have helped villagers and local authorities run self-sufficient forest conversation schemes.
these include ranger patrols, reforestation programmes, paddy field construction, soft tourism, organic agriculture, and fauna and flora research.
In 2003 we conceived and built an original tree top set up to draw attention to the black-crested gibbon's habitat and to fund our project. world-of-mouth did the rest.
In 2008, the Lao National Assembly officially declared our 136,000-hectare area the Nam Kan National Park.
LIVING IN A JUNGLE TREEHOUSE - HUAY XAI LAOS
Today I did a two day trip on the Gibbon Experience. You do a total of 25 ziplines and sleep in a treehouse for one night. It was truly amazing. Unfortunately we did not see any monkeys but the action was great..

The Gibbon Experience Laos
Living in a tree house 150m above the ground, 7km deep in the canopy of the jungle, only to be entered or exited by zip line. Waking up to the calls of the Gibbon and knowing that the costs of the tour go straight back into the national park trust to help the endangered gibbon species. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! gibbonexperience.org

Ziplining-The Gibbon Experience, Laos-Is It Worth It?
Many people ask me once they find out I've taken a trip to The Gibbon Experience in Laos if it's worth it. I always say yes, but there are a couple of things I make people aware of, just minor mostly but I've always felt better mentioning these points as everyone usually has different expectations going into one of these adventures.
First off, the treehouses are awesome, this is truly one of the best parts of the package, the 360 views in the highest treehouses in the world are mind-blowing! But these are far from luxury accommodations. They're nice, clean, but basic. You sleep on the floor with your own mattress with everyone else, although some treehouses may have a separate bedroom. We let a young couple take the separate bedroom in our group of 7. Also you are expected to clean up the dishes and kitchen area after meals, I don't believe this was mentioned in the briefing, although it wasn't a big deal.
The staff are pretty good at managing expectations-they are very clear that spotting gibbons is very difficult at best and the chances of getting close to one is virtually impossible. So if you are a photographer, unless you have a 600-800mm lens, a tripod and a ton of luck don't expect to get any serious pictures of gibbon.
Just enjoy the sounds, atmosphere, and being in this absolutely spectacular setting.
The ziplining is really an overwhelming experience. Image going from one line to the next, taking in all of the scenery as you float over the forest canopy. It took me days to process all of that.
There are 3 different packages. I took the Classic 3 day, 2 night stay which is the best one for having a change to hear and spot the gibbon. I originally booked the Waterfall 3 day, 2 day package but after discussing my interests with one of the very helpful staff he suggested I change to the Classic. The Waterfall package takes you further into the forest with a stay at a different treehouse each night and a chance to swim in a natural pool with it's own waterfall. There is also an Express one night package available as well.
In March 2017 there was a death at the Gibbon Experience, the first one since it opened in 1996. The only other accidents before that were some broken leg and twisted ankle injuries. So whenever you go on one of these adventures whether it's jungle trekking, kayaking, rock climbing or ziplining there's also an inherent risk of injury or worse. Personally I felt safe during my visit. The guides were usually around to assist and make sure that no one left the platform until there was enough time for the last person to reach the other end of the line.
I think the Gibbon Experience is truly one of the great authentic adventures of Southeast Asia and definitely worth the money. You can also feel good knowing that you contributed to the conservation of this forest which employs local people who at one time might have had to poach wild animals in order to put food on the table for their family. There are over 100 local people employed as a result of the Gibbon Experience. I highly recommend you book ahead before you leave Luang Prabang or if you're coming from Chiang Rai.

THE BEST Thing to Do in LAOS - Gibbon Experience, World's Highest Tree House & Jungle Zip-Lining
Laos is the greatest place on earth to do zip-lining and sleeping in a jungle-tree house. Doing the Gibbon experience is probably the single best thing you can do in Laos. It's a one in a lifetime experience never to forget. The zip-lines are super long and the view is incredible. Sleeping in the world's highest tree-houses is just another bonus.
Getting there is possible by slow boat from Luang Prabang or by crossing the border from Thailand from Chiang Rai.
