Spent a whole day in the small harbor city of Otaru.
You can access to Otaru from Sapporo station by taking a 30 min train ride. With its historical buildings and beautiful canals, it is one of Hokkaido's most popular destinations. It is also famous for its arts and crafts, such as studio glass and musical boxes.

A trip to Otaru in Hokkaido – Make your own original candle for a memorable experience!
Otaru Candle Studio offers a candle-making experience that allows you to put the memories of your trip into a colorful candle. This is a popular experience with tourists in which you mix various colors of candle wax to create your own original candle over a period of 30 minutes. Why not come and try your hand at making an original candle (it takes about one hour to harden the candles after making them)?

A trip to Asahikawa in Hokkaido – A hands-on experience at a glass studio!
This is Jun Glass Studio, which is located in the Kita-no-Arashiyama (northern Arashiyama) area in Asahikawa. About my Food illustration x Travel journal project:
If you have watched my previous videos, you would know that I used to produce quite detailed illustrated journal of my travels in the past. But recently I found that really exhausting and time-consuming, especially as my paintings have become a lot more elaborated these days, to the point that I ceased journaling about my trips at all. To motivate myself to journal again, I decide to draw only the food I like for this trip - the rest of the trip was recorded as a vlog of some sorts so I could have some kind of record of it as well.

It is a state of opening ceremonies of Otaru Canal Asakusabashi Park on Nov.1.

Sakaimachi Street (Sakaimachi Dōri) is an attractive, preserved merchant street in central Otaru. It lies near by city's canal area. During the development of Hokkaido in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Otaru flourished as a port city, and many trading and shipping companies constructed impressive Western style buildings in the city center to house their shops and offices.
Many of the buildings along Sakaimachi Street have since been converted into cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and museums. There are a few glass workshops for tourists to enjoy a hands-on experience in creating the local Otaru Glass.
Museum of Venetian Art
The local glass producer Kitaichi opened this five story museum featuring the arts of Venice. Inside visitors will find displays of Venetian glassware, clothing and furniture and an impressing full sized gondola.

We took a daytrip out of Sapporo to a small town called Otaru by train for some winter festival events. We started off by going to Sakaimachi, a crafts centre specializing in music boxes and glass. It was really heavy snow that day, but it really adds to the atmosphere of the town.
