Brad -- Criscior Roumanie.

Brad -- Criscior Roumanie. Extract of the trip report of B. Seiler
The town of Brad in the District of Hunedoara has long been well-known for its gold and silver mines.
As early as the Sixteenth Century these used a 480mm gauge plateway with wooden rails and even points; this line existed into the 20th century. One of the wooden wagons, a section of rail and one of the wooden points from the ZWÖLF APOSTEL GEWERKSCHAFT -- RUDA (= Twelve Apostles Mine -- Ruda) are today exhibited at the transport museum in Berlin. At the beginning of the 20th century, an electric mine railway was opened.
In 1907 a metre gauge line was built from Gura Barza (Hungarian: Bárza) to Brad (Brád) to transport the products of the mines to the Arad - Brad railway. It's not know when it was re-gauged to the present 760mm gauge.
Between the two wars, the line was acquired by the company MICA, which also owned gold and silver mines in Ruda, Brad and Stanija, as well as coal mines at Ţebea. The company was nationalised in 1948 and since then has been called EXPLOATAREA MINIERǍ BRAD.
Later the railway was used solely to transport coal (from the mines at Ţebea) from Brad to the coal-fired power station at Gura Barza.
At Crişcior there is a works for the construction and repair of mining equipment and railway wagons; the latter are to be found in service at Brad, Hunedoara and elsewhere in Romania.
Passenger trains were operated in the 1970s utilising carriages built by UNIO - Satu Mare; some of these carriages and one of the standard Reşiţa 0-8-0Ts used here were later taken over by the CFR. One of the coaches was rescued by the TREN CLUBUL ROMAN (TCR) and is now preserved, together with 764.015, in Village Museum in Bucharest.
After closure, the line was overtaken by an Austrian enthusiast and is still used for transportation of construction material and for special trains.

Rare Romanian Gold Coin - Gold Coin Collecting
...................................Welcome to Currency World..............................
Today, I will be featuring a super rare gold coin from Romania. This is an 1883 20 lei gold piece from Romania. There were only about 180,00 pieces minted most of which were melted after WWII. The coin feature King Carol I on the front. He is a king of German ancestry. After personally leading the Romanian Army during the Russo-Turkish War, his ties to a prominent German Royal House helped guarantee the recognition of Romania as an independent nation state in 1878 at the Congress of Berlin. After these victories Carol was also offered rule of Spain and Bulgaria, but he declined stating it would create a conflict of interest. I have placed this coin in a 21mm air-tite capsule and I must say I am disappointed with the fit (the coin is 21mm and I purchased the one with the insert hoping it would provide for a more snug fit). Please tell me what you think and leave your questions or comments in the space below!

In Bucharest a cross-party parliamentary commission has voted against a bill which would have given the green light to Europe's biggest open-cast gold mine to start working.
The vote against the project in Rosia Montana was unanimous. The commission recommended a new draft law for all mining in the area.
We have the same message for the exploitation of shale gasses as well. But for both projects and future ones we need to have clear laws passed to sustain the projects, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta told reporters.
Analysts reckon working the mine, which is based in one of the largest gold deposits in Europe, could create up to 2,300 jobs in the future and boost Romania's economy to the tune of billions of euros. Exploitation was expected to begin in November 2016.
