Terrifying Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, China - World's Tallest and Longest glass bridge
Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge (also called Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, ) is a bridge located in Zhangjiajie, China, above the Wulingyuan area. The bridge, built as an attraction for tourists, is glass-bottomed and is transparent. It is the longest and tallest glass bottomed bridge in the world. The bridge, opened to the public on 20 August 2016, measures 530 metres in total length and 6 metres in breadth, and is suspended about 260 metres above the ground. The bridge spans the canyon between two mountain cliffs in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China's central Hunan province. As per the design, the bridge can carry up to 8000 visitors at a time. The bridge was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan.
Steel beams support the structural glass plates, which Tel Aviv-based Dotan used to make the bridge as invisible.
The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge was designed to be as invisible as possible – a white bridge disappearing into the clouds, said Dotan.
Dotan said As the designer of this bridge located in an incredible and magical national park, I believe in nature, harmony, balance and beauty, he added. Nature is beautiful as is. One wants to make the least impact upon it.
The bridge rests on the edge of two cliffs and is suspended 300 metres above the ground by stay cables.
Wavy slatted handrails line edges of the glazed walkway, which narrows towards the centre of the canyon to create an exaggerated perspective.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, is the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge.
It offers a way to enjoy a panoramic view of the stunning Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon — if you dare to walk on it! It doesn't just serve as a walkway — visitors can go bungee jumping and zip-lining off of it as well.
Length: 430 meters (1,410 feet)
Width: 6 meters (20 feet)
Height: 300 meters (984 feet)
Highlights: an awesome skywalk; bungee jump; beautiful views of towering sandstone pillars
The Scenic Grand Canyon Walk
Using the Glass Bridge, you will take a 2–3 hour scenic walk down into the valley. You start by walking down thousands of stairs built into a thin crevasse in the canyon wall, then travel along the river at the bottom. Finally, you will take a boat ride to the exit.
The long walk is energy-consuming but you will be rewarded with peaceful and beautiful scenery. Get your camera ready for the overhanging cliffs, waterfalls, the lush green forest, and the running stream.
This canyon walk is not recommended for those who don’t like hiking or those who are not physically fit.
There is a slide to go down a short distance instead of walking, which costs about 20 yuan. There is also a zip line across the stream at a cost of 35 yuan.
Just after 13 days the bridge was opened, the authorities put out a notice saying that they are closing the bridge due to overwhelming visitor traffic. The bridge designed to hold 800 persons at a time and expected to be visited by about 8000 people per day, has reportedly attracted more than 80,000 visitors per day. The authorities said that the government decided to suspend operations due to the urgency to improve and update the attraction.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: 4 Days of Adventure in Avatar Mountains of Hunan China
Follow my 4 days adventure to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park where the highlight of this Zhangjiajie travel guide focuses on national park, Avatar mountains, Zhangjiajie Hunan's food, Xibu night market, the infamous Zhangjiajie bridge, the spectacular view of the heaven view from a cable car and the Tujia Minority. The main attraction which is the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is where lies the heavenly view of the natural scenery. Located in Hunan, Zhangjiajie Park's beauty even attracted legendary film maker, James Cameroon to select the Zhangjiajie Mountain as the backdrop of the Hallelujah Mountain in the mystical planet of Pandora in the movie, AVATAR. My 4 days of Zhangjiajie itinerary and travel guide as below:
★Day 1
The first day of my Zhangjiajie trip brought me to the Yellow Dragon Cave aka Huanglong Cave. Yellow Dragon Cave, known as the wonder of the world's caves, is one of the largest caverns in China. It is a karst cave, full of stalagmites, stalactites, underground streams, and large caverns. Exploring the cave, I need to navigate up and down the stairs as well as taking boats to reach the others part of the cavern.
During the night I explore the ordinary street of Zhangjiajie.
★Day 2
Second day starts by a tour to Hallelujah Mountains (previously knowns as Southern Sky Column). Hallelujah Mountain is located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Wulingyuan Area of Hunan Province. The beauty of these natural wonder inspires the floating mountain in the world of Pandora of James Cameroon's Avatar. Hallelujah Mountains is accessible by cable car. Avatar Mountains China 2018
At the night, I explored the tourist must visit pedestrian walk, Xibu Street. Here, there are plenty street performance, cultural shows, street foods, restaurant, local delicacy, exotic food and many hand made souvenir.
★Day 3
After 2 days of wonderful scenery shock, it's time for me to relax. My first stop on the third day is the Jinbian Stream aka Golden Whip Stream. This is where you can relax with pristine water, verdant mountains and cool weather.
Second stop of the days is the 10 miles natural gallery. To explore, you either either choose to walk or take the train. As the name implies, 10 Miles Gallery feature a wonderful view of natural mountain that resembles human, animal, god and beast. At the end of the 10 miles natural gallery is the Monkey Garden. Had some fun with the monkey over there!
Third stop of the day is the highlight my Zhangjiajie trip, the longest and highest glass bridge in China at the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Experience the thrilling feeling of height of Zhangjiajie National ForestPark glass bridge by standing on transparent glass bridge. It might be scary at first but it become normal later on. From the Zhangjiajie glass bridge, I go down to the bottom of the canyon through the cliff plank road. Halfway through, I am given choice of taking elevator or keep going through the cliff plank road. I chose the plank. And my perseverance was rewarded when I met with a local Tujia minority couple and have a short conversation with them. Pushing downward, I was welcomed by a calm turquoise lake. At the end of the route, I leave Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon by boat.
★Day 4
The fourth and final day, I visited the TianMen Mountain. Tianmen mountain is famous for its spectacular view from the cable cars, 999 steps Heaven's Gate and glass plank road or glass walkway. To be honest, the view from the tops of TianMen is the closest resembles of Heaven on the Earth. Last day of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park trip ends and we travel to Changsha for a flight home.

Grand Canyon Zhangjiajie China Day 3
Grand Canyon and Glass Bridge in Zhangjiajie
Today we went to the Grand Canyon and Glass Bridge. From Wulingyan Bus Station we took a bus that costs 11 RMB to the Grand Canyon. It takes 40 minutes to get there. When you arrive to the ticket office, make sure you don’t have camera with you, or any dangerous objects with you, because you’ll have to leave it in a storage box for 5 RMB, but also you’ll have to make an extra trip to come back and get it.
After you pass the security, you’ll be able to buy the ticket, which costs 219 RMB per person. And not far from there you’ll see the famous glass bridge. After you cross the bridge there will be two ways to get down, by an outdoor elevator or walk down by the cliff. We walked, it was so much fun. Then on your way through the canyon you can slide down, costs 30RMB, and later you can take a zip line, costs also 30 RMB. Along the way you can also buy water and some snacks. Then at the Grand Canyon Scenic Spot the boat will transfer you to the exit for free. Before the exit you’ll walk through a lot of little shops with souvenirs and food. And from there you can take the bus back again for 11 RMB.

Glass skywalk in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Tianmen Mountain, China
China from a Vantage Point: Glass Skywalk in the Tianmen Mountain.
The glass skywalk in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in the Tianmen Mountain, China, seems especially built for the fearless. But walking on this incredible pathway, suspended 1,430 meters high up in the air (about 4 691.6 feet) is also 6,35 centimeters thick (2.5 inches), making it safe for the avalanche of tourists. The skywalk is situated 4,700ft above sea level on the side of the Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, China.
The 200ft long bridge joins the west cliff at the Yunmeng Fairy Summit, the summit of Tianmen Mountain and Zhang Jiajie.
And it would appear to be too scary for the cleaners - tourists are asked to put on shoe covers before passing to help keep the path clean.
The pathway, built earlier in the summer echoes the glass-bottomed walkway at the Grand Canyon in the U.S.
The 70ft bridge is 4,000ft above the natural wonder and allows tourists to look through 2.5in of crystal-clear glass to the Canyon floor below.
The Tianmen mountain, literally translated as Heavenly Gate Mountain is so called because of a huge natural cave that occurs halfway up to the summit.
World's highest glass bridge in Zhangjiajie, China
Those with a fear of heights or crossing bridges might want to avoid a new attraction in Zhangjiajie, China. The Grand Canyon Glass Bridge there is the world's highest and longest, at 1,400 feet. Adriana Diaz reports.
