The Mayflower Pub Review - Best London Fish & Chips!
Hey guys! Today I'm at The Mayflower pub, a great little gem on the waterfront in the town of Rotherhithe, London. This little spot is about a 30-minute walk from the Tower of London, and well worth the visit!
Inside, you'll be treated to the traditional Mayflower Pub Menu of Fish & Chips, Scurvy Ale, and a wonderful cheese platter, just like the pilgrims might have enjoyed back before their maiden voyage. This is the original 1620 mooring point of the Pilgrim Father’s Mayflower ship, which continued to Plymouth before sailing to the New World under Captain Christopher Jones.
Fun fact: I am a direct descendent of Francis Cooke, a Leiden Separatist who came to America on the Mayflower and signed the Mayflower Compact.
In all, I would say that this dish was the best fish and chips in London that we had! Such history and so adorable both inside the pub and out on the patio! We started out with the Scurvy ale, their house specialty, followed by a really nice cheese platter with crackers, chutney and grapes. Ate out on the patio since it was a beautiful October day.
Watch out when you eat on the patio, as the tide can come up quickly and splash you pretty well!
Fish and chips were so good ..the tartar sauce had great flavor put into it, as did the mushy peas, which had a mint accent. Soooooo delicious! We will be back in June, when our daughter graduates from high school!
One tip: Let's switch out the Whitney Houston, Dirty Dancing and Celine Dion and hear some festive English pub music! ;)
The Abingdon Incident
Following widespread reporting of alarm and panic in the streets of Abingdon Saturday night - accounts of alien sightings reminiscent of the famous US ‘Area 51’ reports in the USA – one witness speaking of primate-like creatures, humanoid with identical shiny heads which had invaded the Brewery Tap pub, spawning rapidly inside and outside onto the street. A mass of photo and video evidence has appeared online, referenced to ‘John60’. It is against this background that the whole story is now told, the remarkable and true story of one man’s moment of destiny in the presence of family and friends.

27 Scruffy Murphy's
Turn right into Corporation Street noting Rawcliffe's building on the corner with stone plaques. Rebuilt in 1912, it replaced a 19th century ironmongery. Pass The Grapes (Scruffy Murphy's) public house (27). See also Lloyd's Bank built in 1938, a good
example of a purpose-built inter-war bank.
Scruffy Murphy's Formerly the Grapes Hotel, this public house was rebuilt by Burtonwood Brewery Company in 1931 on the site of the 19th century Grapes Inn. The building retains many original features including timber bar counter, snug and stained glass windows to the former Smoke Room. Architect J. B. Singleton was a local man, as were all the contractors.
