LISTEN: Trees are being killed in South Africa by a small beetle discovered in Durban
Big trees across South Africa are being killed by a beetle no bigger than
a peppercorn. The polyphagous shot hole borer, native to Southeast Asia
has landed in South Africa and is causing havoc.
It is yet unknown how the beetle ended up in South Africa – however
one thing is clear – they are reproducing at an alarming rate.

HAZELMERE DAM INFLOW SPIKE AFTER HEAVY RAIN- HAZELMERE DAM WATER CRISIS - DIARY 23_02_2017
Heavy rain spiked the Hazelmere dam inflow this past week. On the 27th of February 2017 the Hazelmere dam went past 95%. It is now more than three months since I made my previous video on the Hazelmere dam called “HAZELMERE DAM AT EXCITING TEMPORARY MAX.” I tend to visit the dam every time after we had some significant rain because then we obviously have something to talk about. The past week or so prior to the 23rd of February 2017, we had lots of rain over large parts of the country in the wake of the tropical cyclone Dineo that caused quite a bit of damage in Mozambique. Here is the progress of the dam level since the 10th of February 2017 (courtesy Umgeni Water):
DATE DAM LEVEL RAINFALL AT DAM(24 HOURS)
10 Feb 2017 63.85 % 0.0mm
13 Feb 2017 63.24 % 0.0mm
14 Feb 2017 64.3 % 60.0mm
21 Feb 2017 68.76 % 20.2mm (definitely much more inland)
22 Feb 2017 71.86 % 40.6mm (definitely much more inland)
23 Feb 2017 81.46 % 20.0mm
24 Feb 2017 87.89 % 1.0mm
27 Feb 2017 95.79 % 0.0mm
The construction company is still busy constructing piano key weirs on the top of the dam to feed the ogee spillway. Apparently, construction is now expected to be finished by September of 2017. I have also included a lot of detail on the construction work so far if you are interested in such things.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Durban (Zulu: eThekwini, from itheku meaning bay/lagoon) is the third most populous city in South Africa—after Johannesburg and Cape Town—and the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. Located on the east coast of South Africa, Durban is famous for being the busiest port in the country. It is also seen as one of the major centres of tourism because of the city's warm subtropical climate and extensive beaches. Durban forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which includes neighboring towns and has a population of about 3.44 million, making the combined municipality one of the biggest cities on the Indian Ocean coast of the African continent. It is also the second most important manufacturing hub in South Africa after Johannesburg. In 2015, Durban was recognised as one of the New7Wonders Cities (along with Vigan, Doha, La Paz, Havana, Beirut, and Kuala Lumpur). The city was heavily hit by flooding over 4 days from 18 April 2019, leading to 70 deaths and R650 000 000 in damage. Durban was recently named the new darling of South Africa due to its all year round warm weather, long stretches of beaches, traditional cuisine, lively markets, world class hotels and arts districts.
