Preston through the years: Preston Guild Animation
A beautiful animation about Preston and the story of Preston Guild.
Want to know more about our fabulous Guild celebrations check out: and join us for what is set to be the best Guild year to date!
Preston Guild is an historic celebration, which dates back to 1179 - sharing a heritage of over 800 years. It is the only Guild still celebrated in the UK and, as such, is truly unique. Held only once every 20 years, the 2012 celebration will be the first Guild in the 21st century and the first since the granting of Preston's city status in 2002.
The Guild has a long history and has evolved considerably over the centuries - playing an important role in the developemnt of Preston as a thriving Lancashire city. However, the one thing that has always remained the central focus is people -the people who plan it, participate in it, promote it and the people who tell their stories of the Guild to children and grandchildren.
Residents, visitors, artists, businesses, athletes and performers -- everyone gets involved in Preston Guild!

(If you wish to stream a smaller or indeed larger version of this film, details and links at the end of this description.)
This is a 40 minute documentary film about the history of Fulwood in Preston, Lancashire, based on the book A Step Back In Time by Carole Knight. (Carnegie Press 1986, Scotforth Books 2009)
It was made in February and March 2013. I luckily chose a gloriously sunny February day to film the walk around the southern part of Fulwood which makes up the Fulwood history trail in Carole's book. As it is a film of a published 'walk' I decided to film 'as I walked'... no tripod shots, the camera walks with me and so there is often movement!! Please accept that as the style of this film.
The idea for the film came about when I was planning a 2 day geography/history workshop for primary school children looking at our local area, namely.... Fulwood. Carole's book sprang immediately to mind and it felt like the decision to make this film had already been made for me... I couldn't say no! It was finished in time for the children to be the first to see it in school.
The film has been made to be accessible to Preston schoolchildren in small chunks and to adults in one 40 minute sitting. The archive photos show how little many parts of Fulwood have changed over the years. This film has been a pleasure to make.
This is a non commercial project and is intended to be seen freely by community and educational audiences. Many thanks to Carole Knight and The Preston Digital Archive at flickr.com for allowing me to use archive photos for this project. Also thanks to staff at Fulwood Library and Lancashire Libraries for the use of archive maps.
I hope that you, like me, will no longer be able to travel round Fulwood without seeing the history of the place in your mind's eye.
If you start to do that then my film has served its purpose.
Apologies if then, like me, you can't ever stop seeing the past in modern day Fulwood!!

WELCOME TO PRESTON
Welcome to my hometown! Of Preston. I don't live in Preston as I live in the village called Much Hoole but Preston been the closest town to me for the last 20 years.
Noticed:
'Town Hall' is actually the Harris Library! as its was dark on another end but it is Harris Library and its a must visit!
Preston Bus station is not the biggest in the world as someone state it wrong on google as I did more research, it is the biggest in Europe! but not in the world. The Millennium Park Bus Depot is a major bus station located in Delhi, India and is currently the largest bus station in the world, having overtaken Tel Aviv's Central Bus Station. Constructed primarily by the city's Public Works Department, the depot was inaugurated on 17 September 2010

Made In Preston Our Story
This is the final project documentary of an heritage lottery project which ran during May/June 2014 in Preston, Lancashire. This Dovetail led project brought together former employees and families of the Courtaulds rayon factory to share memories of working at the plant which was a major employer in Preston between 1939-1980. I worked on the project as film maker and oral historian.

Hawkwind - Utopia - (Live at the Guild Hall, Preston, UK, 1986)
HAWKWIND chaos
07 utopia
The uncrowned kings of mystic rock, Hawkwind have spent 30 years or more blowing their audiences away with shows that are both bizarre and exhilarating. Switched to sonic overdrive they suck you in, chew you up and spit you out screaming for more. Their success lies in the knowledge that these guys are the genuine article and absolutely nothing will stop them. They travel to distant lands, strange planets and create visions that are at once terrifying and alluring. Hawkwind are truly masters of their universe and everyone is welcome along for the ride.
This no frills footage was filmed in Preston, England during their celebrated Chaos Tour of 1986 and has become a favourite amongst fans. Hawkwind go full on psychedelic, performing bona fide classics ripped from rock n roll's underbelly. As always the stage-show is a melting pot of audio-visual lunacy. 20 years does nothing to dilute their relentless eccentricity, as the stage becomes a virtual battlefield of noise and melody, mesmerising mantras and nightmare images. This is beyond heavy rock; Hawkwind are absolutely unique, though many have attempted imitation. The aptly named Chaos is a testament to their devotion to the outlandish, to their love of the unknown and their total fearlessness in the face of madness. Prepare to be sucked dry!
