Sapa Hmong Homestay
With its rolling hills of rice terraces, Sapa looks like something out of a painting. Thanks to Ocean Tours, I recently got to visit this insanely beautiful region of northwestern Vietnam, learn about the Hmong hill tribe, trek through mountains and waterfalls, and enjoy a secluded home stay.
If you plan to visit Sapa, Vietnam, I highly suggest you book your trip through Ocean Tours. It was an incredible experience and they take care of EVERYTHING (food, transportation, accommodation, guides, and trekking). Plus, they have a couple of options available to fit your budget.
[Ocean Tours sponsored the trip for me, but all opinions expressed in this video are my own.]

About Me:
My name is Kevin Cook. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, but I've been living and traveling in Asia since 2013.
After graduating from university in 2011 and working a few unfulfilling jobs, I saved enough money to move to Asia and work as a teacher for a few years. That opportunity allowed me to travel around and experience new foods and cultures, and ignited a passion for blogging and making videos.
Now I travel full-time and make videos with the goal that I can encourage YOU to pursue your own dream of overseas traveling and living.

[VIET A Travel's Holiday] THE H'MONG SISTER - SAPA 03-05/10/2014
Love all - See ya Sapa!

Sapa and the Black H'Mong minority
It has been my experience that there’s no such thing as traveling back in time. Countless fictive tales have been told on time travelling, and I’ll list a non related sequence of them and some of their heroes: Mac Fly in Back to the future, Scrooge in Dicken's Christmas Carol, H.G Wells' Time Machine, Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, etc.
As a matter of fact, I was inexperienced – I still am really, but I’m getting older, and hopefully wiser- I (almost felt I) travelled back in time during my two days in Sapa (if my black H’Mong guide wasn’t constantly using her cell phone, which sort of kills my time travelling idea – bloody affordable mobile companies!).
The Black H'Mong and the Food Market Brawl
When I arrived downtown Sapa, after an uneventful bus ride from Hanoi, I didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary from my stay (although my friend Nadja told me she regretted not doing this city on her trip, which hinted there was something nice to see). We hardly left the bus that we were swamped with locals requesting we took the tour with them. We chose to go on a two day- one night tour with Zee, an average aged lady from the Black H’mong minority living in the mountain. The tour encompassed trekking, eating, and staying at her house in her remote and secluded village. All her friends were named with two letters; it was quite easy to name them: Bao, Keu, Faa. They told me my name was too long, which was unusual for me, as most people think Déwi is short for a longer name.

Teenage sisters living among the mountain villages of Vietnam take a western backpacker on a tour. The older sister faces a moral quandary when the question of sex and money rears its ugly head. As they guide him through a traditional way of life that has been threatened and transformed by economic and colonial forces, their informal relationship exposes the underlying complexities of cross-cultural encounters. Hiking in SAPA with a Hmong villager | Sapa Loop part 4 | Vietnam Vlog 20
In Sapa and hiking with a local Hmong villager. Simply by walking around the town of Sapa we were approached by at least 10 different local Hmong women who offered to take us on a hiking tour. We settled with Zee because she seemed the most fun.

SAPA VIETNAM - BAC HA MARKET - VIETLAND HOLIDAYS
Vietland Holidays offers Sapa Tour by Train , you can have a trip of 3 days 4 nights ( 2nights at hotel in Sapa, and 2 nights on night train)
Established as a hill station by the French in 1922, Sapa is the one place in the northwest where tourism is booming. It’s now firmly on the European and North American package-tour circuit, and well-equipped trekkers are a common sight around town.
The town is orientated to make the most of the spectacular views emerging on clear days. It overlooks a plunging valley of cascading rice terraces, with mountains towering above on all sides. Views of this epic scenery are often subdued by thick mist rolling across the peaks, but even if it’s cloudy, Sapa is still a fascinating destination, especially when local hill-tribe people fill the town with colour.
The town’s French colonial villas fell into disrepair during successive wars with the French, Americans and Chinese, but following the advent of tourism, Sapa has experienced a renaissance. The downside is a hotel building boom, and because height restrictions are rarely enforced, the Sapa skyline is changing for the worse.
Inherent in this prosperity is cultural change for the hill-tribe people. The H’mong people are very canny traders, urging you to buy handicrafts and trinkets. Many have had little formal education, yet all the youngsters have a good command of English, French and a handful of other languages.
