The Opening of The Scottish Parliament 2016 - HM Queen Elizabeth [4K/UHD]
On Saturday 2nd July 2016, HM Queen Elizabeth formally opened the 5th Session of The Scottish Parliament.
The formalities started by The Black Watch (3-SCOTS) Pipes & Drums parading down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to The Scottish Parliament, acting as escort to the Crown Of Scotland. I am often asked who is riding in the back of the car keeping a watchful eye over the crown and it is The Duke of Hamilton.
I have had the whole of this parade uploaded since 2016 and it has had 7.2 million views, alas youtube's ContentID System has deemed there is copyright on the following *ancient* tune:
1. Highland Laddie - when ContentID detects that tune the video is Blocked in 216 Countries
2. Scotland The Brave
3. The Black Bear
4. The Green Hills
So, with regret, these songs have been removed from this video. I have added more of HM Queen arriving for the ceremony at the end to make up for this.

History
Design and construction Sir John Clerk's father, the first Baronet of Penicuik, planned a house on the Mavisbank estate in the late 17th century, for which a drawing of 1698 survives. Sir John Clerk, 2nd Baronet (1676-1755) was a Member of the Parliament of Scotland, and, after the union of 1707, of the Parliament of Great Britain. He was also an artistic patron, a composer of music, and an amateur architect. In 1722, he inherited his father's estates, and began planning the new house. Around this time, William Adam was engaged on his first major commission, the remodelling of Hopetoun House for the Earl of Hopetoun. Clerk and Adam collaborated on the design of Mavisbank, which was based on the 1698 proposal. Each claimed the greater part of the credit for the design. Clerk wrote in a letter that he designed the house under the correction of Mr Adams, a talented architect, while Adam credited the design to himself in his book, Vitruvius Scoticus. It is clear that Adam enjoyed an unusually close relationship with his client, despite their differences of opinion. Clerk certainly criticized some of Adam's suggestions, although surviving correspondence suggests Adam got his way on a number of points. The foundations were laid in 1723, with construction entrusted to the mason and contractor John Baxter Senior, with stone carved by William Sylverstyne. However, William Adam himself was later appointed to complete the works. Later history and decline
The house passed out of the Clerk family in 1815. In 1840, the house was extended, possibly to designs by Thomas Hamilton, the symmetrical additions including a ballroom. The building became an asylum in 1876. Additions were made to the front of the pavilions in the 1880s. Further extensions were made in the 1920s, but in 1946, Dr W. M. Harrowes, Medical Superintendent for Edinburgh purchased the property, and demolished all the additions made since the 18th century. His intended restoration of the house went unrealised, however. In the 1950s, the forecourt was used as a car park for cars both used and scrap by local man Archie Stevenson, and neglect set in. The building was gutted by fire in 1973, destroying the roof and interiors. In 1986, Mr Stevenson was evicted from Mavisbank along with serveral other people who stayed in caravans on the property. Ownership of the house remained uncertain, however, as Stevenson had sold portions the property to three possibly fictitious persons in the USA. In July 2008, Historic Scotland was still pursuing compulsory purchase of the building. Restoration proposals Previous stabilisation work was carried out in the 1980s under emergency powers, following the threatened demolition of the structure. The Mavisbank Trust, a subsidiary of the Edinburgh Green Belt Trust, was formed in 2003 to oversee maintenance of the building and grounds, and to explore longer-term solutions for their restoration. In August 2003, Mavisbank was featured in the BBC Television programme Restoration, in which the public were invited to vote for restoration proposals. Mavisbank reached the final round, but lost out to Manchester's Victoria Baths. In 2008, Historic Scotland were examining two options: stabilisation of the building as a ruin; or creation of a developer's shell, which could be sold and completed by a third party. A local campaign group, Friends of Mavisbank, has been formed with the aim of promoting more limited architectural intervention, while improving public access to the estate.

Driving to and visiting Smailholm Tower in the Scottish Borders
Smailholm Tower lies almost exactly mid way between Melrose and Kelso. Access is either from the village of Smailholm, whose fine Norman church is worth a visit, or from the B6404, four miles north east of St Boswells. A minor road leads you through the farmstead of Sandyknowe and along a track past an old millpond to the parking area for the tower.
Smailholm Tower was built in the first half of the fifteenth century by the Pringle family. They had owned the estate of Smailholm Craig since at least 1455 when the owner was recorded as Robert Pringle.
was a five storey rectangular structure built on top of a volcanic rock. The lower two storeys consisted of a single vaulted room divided by a timber floor with both levels serving as a storage area. The entrance into the tower, which was protected by a heavy wooden door and an Iron Yett, led directly into this compartment. The floor above consisted of the Great Hall which was afforded a few small windows and a large fireplace. The levels above were used for high status accommodation and a spiral staircase embedded within the south-east corner of the tower provided access to all floors. The structure was built of roughly coursed stone with red sandstone ashlar dressings. Today this gives the castle a somewhat motley appearance but originally it would have been covered in some form of rendering or harling that would have given it a uniform facade. The tower was surrounded by a barmkin (curtain wall) which ranged from one to two metres thick and was topped with a parapet walk. It enclosed courtyards to the east and west. The latter was the larger of the two and hosted the ancillary buildings as well as an additional hall to augment the facilities in the Tower itself.
Hope you enjoy the visit, my gimbal was in need of calibration due to temperature changes hence the slight angle of view until i realised and fixed it late in the day, hopefully it will not hinder your viewing enjoyment too much.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Veterans, guests,
President of Serbia, Mr Vucic, Prime Minister of Israel, Mr Netanyahu,
Friends,
I am pleased to welcome you here and to greet you on Victory Day.
It is truly a popular holiday, solemn, proud, mournful, but also very warm and personal. It means a lot to every family that today pay tribute to relatives and loved ones who survived the war and those who were killed, or went missing, those who are no longer with their family. Yet all these people are forever with us, in each new day that was paid for by their courage and sacrifice.
We will forever cherish the memory of the Victory’s brave heroes and modest labourers. We keep the memory alive in our hearts, in family albums, in archive footage, WWII songs, and in the unending procession of the Immortal Regiment.
It is with deep emotion and filial gratitude that I want to address the veterans: we are proud of you, we salute your courage.
You had one duty to fulfil and that was to protect your Motherland. You all overcame inhuman hardships. What children had to go through is poignant. Thousands of teenagers fought on the frontline or in guerrilla units, worked day and night on the home front, sacrificed all for Victory.
It is your loyalty to the Motherland that has helped you overcome all the hardships and preserve human dignity both during the war and afterwards.
You have always valued friendship and readiness to help one another. These are the qualities that have helped you in all your endeavours. Together, you restored the country, built cities, plants and factories, reclaimed virgin lands, made outstanding achievements in science, technology, and culture.
Your lives are a great example of popular unity and service to the Motherland that you have set for us and for generations to come. We will always follow this example.
We salute you.
I would like to address those veterans who are now in this hall, in our country as a whole, and all the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, wherever they live. I have met many of them in different countries. They are all heroes. We all commend your heroic feat.
I suggest a toast to peace, to the generation of victors, to Russia!
Happy holiday!
Congratulations on Victory Day!

Occurred on May 27, 2017 / Dunipace, Stirlingshire, Scotland
This video was taken during the annual Gala Day for the Denny and Dunipace area in Scotland. It had been a fantastic day but soon, as per normal for Scotland the rain intervened. Far from interrupting the festivities, it appeared to have a positive effect. This was shown in no greater way than a trio of local police officers deciding to raise spirits and have a race on one of the funfair rides. Despite the slide being soaked following the rain, these 3 officers continued their plan and headed down the slide much to the amusement of the watching crowd.
