--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Great Stupa being built near Bendigo, Australia will be 50 metres (164 feet) square at its base and nearly 50 metres high. This will make it the largest stupa in the Western World.
What is The Great Stupa?
The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion will be the same size and design as the Great Stupa of Gyantse which is 50 metres (164 feet) wide along each side at its base and nearly 50 metres high. This will make it the largest stupa in the Western World. It is being built near Bendigo, Australia.
A Stupa is the most sacred monument in the Buddhist world. It is a symbolic representation of the fully Enlightened mind and the path to Enlightenment. As the sacred texts are the verbal expression of the Dharma, so the Stupa is its architectural expression.
Objectives of The Great Stupa
To inspire people to seek a peaceful and spiritual path.
To be a pilgrimage place for Buddhists from around the world.
To provide a refuge of peace and serenity for all and especially those in need.
To help explain Buddhism to anyone interested.
To provide a Gompa for use by monks from Thubten Shedrup Ling Monastery and members of the Atisha Buddhist Centre.
To be of service to as many beings as possible.
The Gompa
The Gompa, inside the Stupa, will have many features of traditional large Tibetan gompas including large statues of Buddhas and deities. The Gompa will be used for pujas, meditation and teachings. It will also be designed to present an overview of Buddhism to visitors.
The Gardens
Beautiful gardens will surround the Stupa. Visitors will be encouraged to walk through the garden and to ascend the Stupa in the clockwise direction. Along the paths will be 100,000 small stupas.
Funding
Construction of The Great Stupa is estimated to be around $20 million. These funds are being sought through fundraising on an international basis. Construction is taking place on a progressive basis as funds become available.

Energetic clouds in monsoon time lapse near Mahabaleshwar
Idyllic monsoon time lapse with greenery, Western Ghats mountains / hills / valleys and a lake!
Mahabaleshwar is located at 17.92°N 73.67°E. It has an average elevation of 1,353 metres (4,439 ft).
Located about 120 km (75 mi) southwest of Pune and 285 km (177 mi) from Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is a vast plateau measuring 150 km2 (58 sq mi), bound by valleys on all sides. It reaches a height of 1,438 m (4,718 ft) at its highest peak above sea level, known as Wilson/Sunrise Point.
Mahabaleshwar comprises three villages: Malcolm Peth, Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and part of the Shindola village.
Mahabaleshwar is the source of the Krishna River that flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar. Legend has it that Krishna is Lord Vishnu himself as a result of a curse on the trimurtis by Savitri. Also, its tributaries Venna and Koyana are said to be Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma themselves. An interesting thing to notice is that 4 other rivers come out from the cow's mouth apart from Krishna and they all travel some distance before merging into Krishna. These rivers are the Koyana, Venna (Veni), Savitri, and Gayatri.
Today, Mahabaleshwar is a popular holiday resort and honeymoon spot, and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is the site of Mahabaleshwar Temple. Many tourists visit nearby Panchgani. After the construction of a new highway, it is only a five-hour drive from Mumbai. Mahabaleshwar is also known for the honey and strawberries produced here. One can visit strawberry farms to enjoy the real flavour of the fruit. It is said that the climate of Mahabaleshwar is ideal for Strawberries and Mulberries. One can also get a taste of Strawberries with Cream (season:Jan -Feb) or Mulberries with Cream (season: April--May).
The Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar. The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides. A late winter evening boat ride through the slight fog is well appreciated. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride over the lake or a horse ride next to the lake. A number of small eateries line the banks of the lake. The Mahabaleshwar city market and the S.T. bus stand is about 2KM from the lake and makes for a nice walk during the day. Most tour operators include the Venna lake in their tours. Most buses, private vehicles will stop at the Venna lake on their way to Mahabaleshwar on request.
With another popular and scenic hill resort Panchgani in close vicinity (about 20KM), most tourists often visit both places together. The 'Table-Land' phenomenon of nature at Panchgani is breath-taking.

Peaceful village life in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand, formerly Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the Land of the Gods due to the many holy Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. Uttarakhand is mainly known for its natural beauty of the Himalayas, the Bhabhar and the Terai. On 9 November 2000, this 27th state of the Republic of India was carved out of the Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region on the north; the Mahakali Zone of the Far-Western Region, Nepal on the east; and the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south and Himachal Pradesh to the northwest. The state is divided into two divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon, with a total of 13 districts. The provisional capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun, the largest city in the region, which is a railhead. The high court of the state is in Nainital.
Archaeological evidence support the existence of humans in the region since prehistoric times. Among the first major dynasties of Garhwal and Kumaon were the Kunindas in the 2nd century BCE who practised an early form of Shaivism. Ashokan edicts at Kalsi show the early presence of Buddhism in this region. During the medieval period the region was consolidated under the Kumaon and Garhwal kingdom. By 1803 the region fell to the Gurkha Empire of Nepal and with the conclusion of the Anglo-Nepalese War in 1816 most of modern Uttarakhand was ceded to the British as part of the Treaty of Sugauli. Although the erstwhile hill kingdoms of Garhwal and Kumaon were traditional rivals, the proximity of different neighbouring ethnic groups and the inseparable and complementary nature of their geography, economy, culture, language, and traditions created strong bonds between the two regions which further strengthened during the movement for statehood in the 1990s.
The natives of the state are generally called either Garhwali or Kumaoni depending on their place of origin. According to the 2011 census of India, Uttarakhand has a population of 10,116,752, making it the 19th most populous state in India. A large portion of the population consists of Rajputs and Brahmins. More than 88% of the population follow Hinduism. Muslims are the largest minority in the state with Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, and Jains being the other major religions. Garhwali and Kumaoni along with other hilly dialects and sub-dialects are the main regional languages, whereas Hindi is the most widely spoken language. Uttarakhand is the only state in India with Sanskrit as one of its official languages.
Two of the most important rivers in Hinduism originate in the region, the Ganga at Gangotri and the Yamuna at Yamunotri. These two along with Badrinath and Kedarnath form the Chota Char Dham, a holy pilgrimage for the Hindus. The state hosts the Bengal tiger in Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest national park of the Indian subcontinent. The Valley of Flowers, a Unesco World Heritage Site located here, is known for the variety and rarity of the flowers and plants found there.

Easter in Jerusalem
Growing numbers of pilgrims participate each year in the Easter celebrations in Jerusalem. These include Palm Sunday and Good Friday processions.
Pilgrims come a long way to walk in the very last steps of Jesus. This visit is of great significance to most of them.

Camino de Santiago Documentary Film - The Way
I did my Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage in April/May 2004. To be authentic, I walked the whole French Way; 34 days, 18 kg of gear, 764 km on foot. I lost 8 kg in weight!
What happened to Mark? Watch his latest film - a motorcycle pilgrimage around Australia
I had read a lot about the Camino being a spiritual experience, and I wanted to try and capture on film my own reactions as I walked the way.
I find watching the film a little difficult, I feel a little embarrassed at just how earnest and honest I was trying to be. But the reaction from viewers has been amazing. Still, all these years later, people contact me thanking me for documenting my journey.
I have a little facebook page for the film. Despite not really doing anything with this page, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger, reaching close to 1,000 people.
So I've decided to release the whole film, in it's entirety on youtube. I will have ads running in the video and encourage you to explore these ads, any income for a independent filmmaker is handy, and will help me continue my current journey of trying to film the whole world.
Feel free to share, comment and like the video. I'm always happy to hear how my little film helped encourage people to do the Camino themselves. It is an amazing journey, a one of a kind experience.
Hice mi Camino de Santiago en abril / mayo de 2004. Ser auténtico , caminé todo el Camino Francés , 34 días , 18 kg de artes de pesca, 764 kilometros a pie. He perdido 8 kg de peso !

Hagharzin (Armenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Hagharzin in Armenia.
The Hagharzin Monastery is located in Armenia amidst dense forests, north of Lake Sevan. The monastery complex was built over a long period and the Refectory on the western edge was constructed in 1248. The Gavith of the Grigor Church is swathed in a soft, mystical light, that reveals various inscriptions on the walls. Four massive pillars support an octagonal dome, and, in each corner, vaults absorb the darknesss. In Armenian sacred architecture, the porches to the main churches were used for burials of the Lords Of The Manor who donated land to the church. The Seljukians destroyed the site, which was rebuilt by the Zakharjan princes following Liberation. The Mother Of God Church was probably built during the tenth and eleventh centuries. The altar in the raised apse is used for regular Mass for pilgrims. The grey stone walls consist of raw blocks, and sparse rays of light add a deeply spiritual aspect. The domed room is reinforced with arches and illuminated by a central iron chandelier. The main church can be exited via a side door and passes the Katoghike to reveal the rear side, a mediaeval monastery in a place that, according to tradition, was a pagan place of worship.

Holland - Elvis devotee opens his house to fans
T/I: 10:28:04
He loves them tender, he loves them sweet, and because he loves them so much, Elvis the King weeps. Or so says a very special Elvis Presley fan in the Netherlands who claims his statue of the Rock and Roll legend is weeping salty tears.
Elvis Impersonator, Toon Nieuwehuisen from the south western town of Duene has made front-page headlines in the Netherlands following his discovery. Nieuwehuisen says there is a simple explanation for the tears
of the King. He is crying for his fans whose love for him has not waned since his death twenty years ago on the 16th August 1977.
On Wednesday (13/8) Nieuwehuisen opened his house to pilgrims who have come in their hundreds to watch Elvis weep. Some, despite their devotion say they are a little suspicious of the so called miracle.
