Road Trip to Scotland: Day 3 | Vlog (Loch Lomond and the Long Drive Home)
There was some heavy rain on the final day of our road trip to Scotland, but we wanted to see Loch Lomond before embarking on the long car journey home.
The views of the lake took our breath away - there's something magical when you combine high hills with water. All in all, our trip was an amazing experience and we can't wait to go on our next big one!
Hope you enjoy this vlog - we loved making it! If you haven't seen our videos from Day 1 and Day 2, just scroll down below.

Loch Lomond - Autumn 2010 in Scotland (By Yon Bonnie Banks - Song)
Dedicated to my wife...
Loch Lomond is a beautiful loch (Lake) in Scotland. It is the biggest fresh water body (in respect of area) in the UK and considered to be one of the most picturesque. The Highland boundary fault runs across the Loch and has created a landscape that is a combination of both the Highlands and Lowlands. Loch Lomond is 23 miles long, 5 miles wide and 630 feet at its deepest point. It has the most number of freshwater fish species of any Loch, has over 200 bird species and about 25% of Britain's wild plants.
Balloch is located at the Southern shores of the Loch and is the gateway to the loch. The river Leven begins at Balloch. Balloch is easily accessible from Glasgow by car, bus or train. The small villages of Luss, Tarbet, Inveruglas, Ardlui, Rowardennan and Blamaha are located on the shores of Loch Lomond. Some of these villages are serviced by buses from Balloch all year round, while other only during the summer months. A ferry service operates between these villages during the Summer season. There are also cruises from many of the piers that will provide you with some breath taking views and an experience that you will never forget.
Ben Lomond is located on the Northeastern side of Loch Lomond. It is the Southernmost Munro (Munros are mountains higher than 3000 feet) and is 3,196 feet. It is accessible from Rowardennen and would approximately take about 5 hours and covers about 7 miles. Another popular hike is Conic Hill from Balmaha, takes about 2 and half hours and is 2 miles. Conic Hill provides a perfect view of the Highland Boundary fault.
These photographs were taken during my visit in Autumn 2010. I haven't been here during Summer but I would think that Autumn probably provides some of the most picturesque and colourful views of the Loch and the surrounding mountains.
The song By Yon Bonnie Banks (Loch Lomond) is a traditional Scottish song first published in 1841. It is set in the time of the 1745 Jacobite rising by Bonnie Prince Charlie. One interpretation of this song is when the English played game with the Jacobite prisoners, where one could live and the other would die. It is thought that this song was sung by the prisoner who was to be executed to the other. It is also thought to be intended to his lover who lived by Loch Lomond.

Gull's Eye Guide to Dunstaffnage Marina sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston
The boat insurance people who share your passion…
This Gull's Eye Guide comes from Dunstaffnage Marina located in Scotland's West Coast, off the shore's of Ardmucknish Bay. The marina itself sits on the entrance of Loch Etive, an undeniably beautiful area with the added benefit of protection against adverse weather conditions due to Eilean Mor Island. A short sail deeper into Loch Etive, there are great mooring opportunities, including Salmore Bay, which is a good fishing spot for those who like to catch their own dinner.
Due to its location and depth at the entrance, Dunstaffnage is an easy sailing spot with undemanding navigation, however it is always recommended to have the appropriate charts and maps with you. Navigational lights are located on Dunstaffnage castle and island foreshores for those travelling after dark. Unfortunately due to its remote location, the marina isn't the best stop if you're in need of stocking up as there's a 10-minute drive along the coast to Oban -- the local town. The Wide Mouthed Frog which is an on-site restaurant, bistro and bar is great for a mid day bite or an after cruise drink. The restaurant also has rooms available for overnight stays.
For those looking to enjoy a quiet scenic break, this marina is a great choice for you. Visitors often enjoying walking over to Dunstaffnage Castle, one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland. Poppies, a quaint garden centre with a café and attractive grounds is easily accessible via dinghy from across the bay. However, if you're looking to stretch your sea legs, it is recommended to travel across the Sea of Hebrides to Barra or the Sound of Harris and then onto St Kilda. The Priest Isles of Mingulay, Barra Head or Vatersay are also good stops along the way. Whichever direction you wish to take, you will have the opportunity to view exceptional wildlife, cetaceans and wild flowers during this enjoyable cruise.

Loch Lomond Marina at Balmaha (STS 012)
Loch Lomond is a wonderful place - perhaps the most magical place in all of Scotland. This is the marina near Balmaha Millennium Path on the East Bank. It's well worth a look-see and is fantastic and eerie at night time. The atmosphere is great.

Uncovering East Lothian - Dunbar Townhouse Museum | Dig It! TV
Dunbar Townhouse Museum is without a doubt one of the quirkiest locations Dig It! TV has ever explored. Built towards the end of the sixteenth century, this curious building is considered to be Scotland's oldest functioning Council Chamber. Spanning a history of more than 400 years and still in regular use today, there is a story waiting behind every door. In this final episode of our Uncovering East Lothian series, Saga and the team lift the lid on Dunbar's local history and investigate how this building impacted the lives of its townsfolk, from judges to the prisoners they sentenced.
Dunbar Townhouse Museum is open Monday to Sunday between 1 April 2019 and 30 September 2019, and on weekends courtesy of Dunbar and District History Society from 1 October 2018 to 31 March 2019. See details on the East Lothian Museums website.
