Purmamarca And The Hill of Seven Colors
Purmamarca And The Hill of Seven Colors
Cerro de los Siete Colores or “The Hill of Seven Colors” is one of the hills bordering the tiny village of Purmamarca, in Jujuy Province, in north-western Argentina. Sprung up around seventy-five million years ago, the hill was formed by a complex geological process that involved deposition of sea, lake and river movements and subsequent elevation of the land due to the movement of the tectonic plates.
The hill is called such due to the various pigments acquired by the minerals that make up the sedimentary layers. It is said that you can see seven colors in the hill, but most people can pick out only four. The colors are most clearly visible in the morning. The hill is best seen from the main road about 400 meters before entering the village.

A Trip to Seven Color Hills, Purmamarca, Argentina
Purmamarca is a village in the Jujuy province of northwest Argentina. It's set at the base of a striking, multi-hued mountain called the Seven Colors Hill. From the village, the Paseo de los Colorados trail leads into the surrounding desert landscapes for views of the mountain. Adobe houses line the streets, and 9 de Julio Square hosts a popular crafts market. Nearby is the centuries-old Santa Rosa de Lima church. Alice Bukasova and her dad, Rostislav Bukasv, visited it before going to Ojos Del Salado.

ARGENTINA: EXPLORING JUJUY - PURMAMARCA TO HUMAHUACA - TRIP & ITINERARY
JUJUY || PURMAMARCA || HILL OF SEVEN COLORS (Cerro de los Siete Colores) || MAIMARÁ || PAINTER'S PALETTE || HUMAHUACA || SERRANÍA DE HORNOCAL
After our journey from Salta, we spent the night in Purmamarca and decided to climb the mountain early morning to see the town from above, and witness the beautiful Hill of Seven Colors. It was so worth the climb!... It was magnificent! Little did we know, it was only the beginning...
As we traveled further north towards Humahuaca, we stopped at a little town called Maimara where the backdrop of a mountain called the Painter's Palette looked... like a painters pallet! The colours were numerous, vivid and beautiful.. OMG! we thought, this was even better than the last one!
It can't get any better than this, we thought...
But wait! Our jaw literary dropped as we drove closer and got a glimpse of el Hornocal. Is this real!?? Seriously, the most spectacular view we have ever seen! The multicolored mountains in Jujuy took our breath away...
Don't forget to watch our last vlog; On The Road From Salta to Jujuy where we had the best empanadas, and explored San Antonio and Salinas Grandes in Jujuy:

Argentina's Northwest - Things to do in Salta, Cafayate & Purmamarca
I traveled to the Northwest of Argentina to explore the colorful valleys, taste the wine and to show you the best things to do in Salta, Cafayate and Purmamarca
Related article:
The stunning regions of Salta and Jujuy are not as popular outside of Argentina but offer so much to see and do. I've heard of the Valles Calchaquiés and the Hill of the seven colors before but I was overwhelmed seeing it myself.
Starting in Cafayate I take you on a journey to both regions and introduce you to the wineries of Cafayate where the Torrontés is produced, I explore the Quebrada de las Conchas with its rock formations, I visit the Hill of Seven colors in Purmamarca at the Quebrada de Humahuaca and I show you around in one of the most beautiful cities of Argentina: Salta.

Again I was able to fly the drone to give you a scale of these impressive landscapes and I got some really nice aerial footage of the red Canyons as well as the vineyards and Cafayate.
Beside all those sights in Salta & Jujuy I recommend you to try the local food. The empanadas, the locro, the humitas and tamales are the most typical food and so delicious!

Purmamarca
This little town in the high andean steppe was very empty, very dusty, and very windy. this day we took a walk out of town to look at the cerro de los siete colores-- hill of seven colors because of different minerals that make up the rocks; magnesium, iron, and like five others.
N Argentina: Purmamarca Mountain of 7 Colors and Fun Market
Purmamarca is often the first stop along the Quebrada route and famous for its Mountain of 7 colors as well as colorful market. The hill or mountain is a result of thousands of years of geological activity and erosion and tour bus after tour bus pulls up, travelers jump off, take individual and group photographs and busily buy from vendors set up there.
The town of Purmamarca has an unimaginable amount of goods for sale set up around the Town Square. This is the place to buy Bolivian-style blankets, alpaca items, scarfs, ceramics and more. Take your time and enjoy both the mountain colors and equally colorful market.

In the afternoon we headed north of the glacier, so in 20 minutes you can walk directly over the glacier, as the flat ice seems to collapse and you get a little nervous. The glaciers in Patagonia are pretty fast In the case of the Perito Moreno glacier you are seeing, the center is moving 3 meters a day. The trekking course changes according to the moving glacier, so you are walking a new road every day. To walk on a glacier, Eisen is essential Do not forget to keep a gap between your feet when you walk, so Eisen does not get tangled together. Look, you have to step your feet flat on the ice. It's more stable when you touch the floor at the same time. Do not walk like this, he said, it's like a penguin, people who take off the first step on the glacier, even the sound of a crusty footprint, Be careful. The glacier has a maze built by nature, a narrow alleyway, and a solid ice wall. Peritoneum is a glacier that is immersed in water, The Moreno glacier is about 350 years old, and it is about 350 years old, not much longer, given that it is a glacier, as well as a glacier-like glacier, which looks like a small waterfall. It looks like all the blue of light is in. It sits for a while and it tastes clear and sweet. It's very nice. One thing to worry about is that this ice is older than whiskey, do you want to drink water instead of whiskey? Cheers! Did you drink it already? It's not that cold. It's summer for us. We enjoyed the summer in Patagonia, leaning on a glacier raining down the rain. It's the first time I've seen a glacier. It was really cool. I really enjoyed it. It was the best moment of my trip. We are lovers. I recommended Patagonia to my girlfriend. It's a pretty place. It's amazing how amazing it is. I have not even imagined this landscape. It is really nice and touching. And now it's better to be with her. Better than last time? Sure. Of course, but just walking on the glacier made me feel sorry.
