YORK To GETTYSBURG Pennsylvania Lincoln Highway (US Route 30) Driving Tour
In this video we drive from York to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on US Route 30 - the Lincoln Highway.
U.S. Route 30 or U.S. Highway 30 (US 30) is an east–west main route in the system of the United States Numbered Highways, with the highway traveling across the northern tier of the country.
With a length of 3,073 miles (4,946 km), it is the third longest U.S. highway, after U.S. Route 20 and U.S. Route 6. The western end of the highway is at US 101 in Astoria, Oregon; the eastern end is at Virginia Avenue, Absecon Boulevard, and Adriatic Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Despite long stretches of parallel and concurrent Interstate Highways, it has not been decommissioned unlike other long haul routes such as U.S. Route 66.
The 0 as the last number in the digit indicates that it is a coast-to-coast route and a major east-west route. Much of the historic Lincoln Highway, the first road across America (from New York City to San Francisco), became part of US 30; it is still known by that name in many areas.
US 30 and US 20 break the general U.S. Route numbering guidelines in Oregon, since US 20 actually starts south of US 30 in Newport, Oregon and US 30 runs parallel to the north throughout the state (the Columbia River and Interstate 84).
The two run concurrently and continue in the correct positioning near Caldwell, Idaho. This is because US 20 was not a planned coast-to-coast route while US 30 was. US 20 originally ended at the eastern entrance of Yellowstone National Park; it was extended in 1940.

Restaurant just off the Lincoln Highway Near Bedford PA
Take a scenic drive near Bedford, PA on the Lincoln Highway just a few miles east of Bedford Springs Resort. When you get to the Everett exit...take it. Just keep going through the historic little town of Everett (about a mile off the Lincoln Highway) and watch for the Union Hotel on the right. It's pretty much right in the middle of town. Just walk on in and feast your eyes on some of the most luxurious amenities you've ever seen in the restoration of a previously dilapidated building. The place is a showcase of stonework... marble and granite. As you walk around, you'll see two very ornate dining rooms, a huge outside deck and coffee bar that is just out of this world.
Then take the elevator downstairs to the Bullshead Tavern for a shot of even more old world charm mixed with modern opulence. Keep walking on past the beautifully ornamented bar area and you will find a gorgeously upholstered leather couch that seats at least a dozen smack dab in front of big screen TV. This is place you could really get comfortable in. Why not take your coat off and stay a while.
By the way...the food...well what would you expect in a place like this?
Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Grand View Ship Hotel
Tucked away high in the mountains of Pennsylvania, there used to be a hotel and restaurant that looked like a giant steam ship. Sadly, the entire place burned down in 2001 after many years of neglect. The video takes you from the point where it was nothing more than a place to pull off of the road and stretch, to the fire. There are also some old 8mm film clips that were shot by my uncle back in the early 60's. I hope you all enjoy this video as much as I've enjoyed the memories of the ship on The Lincoln Highway. The name of the ship was the SS Grand View Hotel.
Original 1913 Lincoln Highway In Existence!
In the quiet town of Glenfield, Pennsylvania, there remains the original route of the Lincoln Highway which was the first transcontinental highway in America. Although most of the original route has been lost to time, this small section somehow survives. The bricks aren't that bad considering they're 102 years old. Still, the road is pretty rough by today's standards and there's no guarantee that they'll be around for another 102.

SS Grand View Ship Hotel
The SS Grand View Hotel was once a very popular spot along the old Lincoln Highway. Built in 1932, this unique hotel was near Bedford, PA on Route 30.
I walked through the old ship in 2000 with my camera to document it because I had a feeling it wasn't going to be standing much longer. On October 26, 2001 it burned down.
The video is so bad I hesitated to upload, but thought some would still find it interesting.
