Busy Beekeepers Harvesting Honey in Ontario
Here are some beekeepers frantically searching for the queen bee as they harvest honey supers and discover brood in some of the frames. The queen has managed to get up into the honey supers and now they must find her or they will destroy the hive if they take her away back to their honey house.

How To Move a Beehive to a new Apiary - #Beekeeping Basics - The Norfolk Honey Co.
Moving beehives needn't be a worry or stressful if you follow some simple rules for moving. Safety is the key and it's important to use good, well maintained equipment, particularly the straps. Take your time and if you need someone to assist you with the lifting then make sure they are fully briefed on what is going to happen and how before you move anything. It's always best to move beehives in the cool of the early morning or late night once the bees have returned to the hive or are still clustered up after a long dark night.
Make sure the straps are tightened enough to hold the beehives securely for the journey ahead. We were only moving the bees a short distance and the whole journey only took around 20 minutes. For longer journey's use a travel screen to allow more ventilation to get into the hive.
If you are in any doubt about moving beehives always get a more experienced beekeeper to lend a hand. Do not put yourself or others at risk.
DISCLAIMER: In this video I show you how I moved my hives, I take full precautions and have many years experience in moving beehives. YOU MUST TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS FOR YOUR OWN SITUATION AND I CANNOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS THAT OCCUR THAT ARE OUT OF MY CONTROL.
If you are looking for some straps that are of the same type that I use in the video, here are some ratchet straps of the type I use.

Beekeeper's re-launch Babe's Honey Farm
We are proud to announce the opening of our new store. Babe's Honey Farm is back!
babes-honey-farm.com
facebook.com/babeshoneyfarm
Babe's Honey Farm was founded in 1945 by Babe & Charlie Warren with a small loan from a credit union and single beehive Charlie found in the forest. They spent their lives building Western Canada's favorite bee farm and provided Vancouver Island with local honey for over 60 years.
Babe passed in 2006, three years after Charlie, and Babe's Honey Farm was sold to a local businessman and a handful of investors. In January of 2011, Babe's Honey went into receivership and it's assets went up for auction on June 29th 2011.
But that's not the whole story. The former employees attended the auction and with the support of their family and some close friends they bought the Babe's Honey name, the bees, the trucks, and enough equipment to manage 1000 honey bee colonies were determined to re-establish the business.
After months of working behind the scenes, we had re-organized our operation and were ready to re-launch Babe's Honey Farm. We are now located at Galey's Farm on Blenkinsop Rd and look forward to seeing you all there soon.

Careers That Matter: Amanda and Jeff Lee (owners, Honey Bee Zen Apiaries)
Amanda and Jeff Lee were a Vancouver BC power couple, both key members of the Vancouver Sun and Postmedia newspaper group. Then one day, Amanda took a “Science of Fear” challenge put on by one of her clients. That challenge was to experience what is known as a “bee beard” – that’s where the queen bee was placed on a string around her neck and thousands of worker bees were released to climb up her throat and onto her face.
That was the beginning of an incredible journey that transformed her and Jeff’s lives. Goodbye newspaper business. Goodbye big city. And in the words of Green Acres theme song, “Farm Living Was the Life for Me” – bee keepin’ is a career for me, land spreadin’ out so far and wide, Keep Vancouver, just give me that countryside. It was and is an adventure in agriculture and entrepreneurialism.
Amanda and Jeff share their career path in this episode of Careers That Matter.
