Romania Road Trip: Brasov to Busteni and the Caraiman Monastery
Transylvania is beautiful! My Romania Road Trip takes a turn into Dracula country driving through Transylvania and to the foot of the Carpathian mountains as I head south from Brasov towards Busteni. As I drive into the beautiful countryside of Transylvania I pass by Bran Castle which was the inspiration for Draculas Castle, and finally I arrive at the most amazingly beautiful mountain landscape in Busteni.
Busteni is located in the Prahova Valley, at the bottom of the Bucegi Mountains (parth of the Southern Carpathians) and is a ski destination in winter months and home to one of the most modern and beautiful Monasteries, the Caraiman Monastery which dates back only as far as 1998.
This central area of Romania is stunning, I would like to spend more time here and need to come back, put it on the bucket list....

The Holy Trinity Cathedral, Sibiu (Romanian: Catedrala Sfânta Treime din Sibiu), located at 35 Mitropoliei Street, Sibiu, Romania, is the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Sibiu and Metropolitan of Transylvania. It was built in the style of a Byzantine basilica, inspired by Hagia Sophia, with the main spires influenced by Transylvanian church architecture and Baroque elements.

Mănăstirea ortodoxă Săpânța-Peri este situată la marginea comunei Săpânța (Maramureș) la nici 2 km nord de vestitul Cimitir Vesel. Deși este un ansamblu monahal nou, el de fapt reînvie străvechea Mănăstire Peri construită de nepoții voievodului Dragoș Vodă în anul 1389 în localitatea Peri aflată acum în Ukraina, pe locul unei și mai vechi sihăstrii. Toate cele lăcașe au același hram: Sfântul Arhanghel Mihail. Vechea Mănăstire Peri s-a remarcat prin obținerea în 1391 a titlului Stavropighie (biserică direct subordonată Patriarhiei de la Constantinopole, pentru a nu fi supusă regilor Ungariei), prin cuvioșii părinți Pahomie și Sf. Iosif Stoica, prin școala teologică de aici și ca centru de cultură în care au fost traduse și tipărite cărți religioase în limba română. De asemenea, a fost cea mai veche mănăstire românească și care timp de 312 ani avea să fie sediul Episcopiei Române a Maramureșului istoric (din care acum în România este circa o treime). Vechea Mănăstire Peri a fost distrusă în tulburele vremuri ale secolului al XVIII-lea pe locul ei rămânând acum doar niște pietre. Străvechea mănăstire a fost rectitorită nu pe locul inițial, ci la mică distanță, aici la Săpânța, locul viitoarei biserici fiind sfințit în 1991, la exact 600 de ani de la înființarea vechii Mănăstiri Peri (1391). Lucrările au început în 1997, dar nu sunt încă finalizate (de exemplu, biserica de la etaj). Totuși mănăstirea este activă, biserica de la demisol fiind sfințită în 2003, iar în 2005 s-a instalat comunitatea de măicuțe condusă de maica stareță Agnia Ciuban. Ansablul mănăstiresc, construit în stil maramureșean, cuprinde Biserica, Casa Monahală, Altarul de Vară și Pangarul, într-o frumoasă ambianță dată de un parcul dendrologic Livada. De subliat faptul că biserica, cu ai săi 75 m (78 m ?) înălțime, este cea mai înaltă biserică de lemn din lume. Numai crucea (obiect de artă) de pe vârful turlei are 7 m înălțime și este învelită cu 4 kg foiță de aur.
The Sapanta-Peri Orthodox Monastery is situated on the outskirts of Sapanta (Maramures, Romania), 2 km north of the famous Merry Cemetery. Although it is a new monastic ensemble, it actually revives the old Peri Monastery built by the grandchildren of Dragos Voda Voivode in 1389 in Peri, now in Ukraine, on the site of an older hermitage. All the places have the same patron: St. Archangel Michael. The old Peri Monastery was famous for the title (in 1391) of Stavropighie (a church directly subordinated to the Patriarchate of Constantinople in order to not be submitted to the kings of Hungary), through the Pahomie and St. Joseph Stoica parents, through theological school here and as a cultural center where religious books were translated and printed in Romanian. It was also the oldest Romanian monastery, and for 312 years it would have been the headquarters of the Romanian Episcopate of Historic Maramures (now about one third in Romania). The old Peri Monastery was destroyed in the troubled times of the 18th century, in its place remaining just stones. The old monastery was rebuilt not in the original place, but at a short distance here, in Sapanţa, the place of the future church being sanctified in 1991, exactly 600 years after the foundation of the old Peri Monastery (1391). Works began in 1997, but are not yet completed (for example, the main church at first floor). However, the monastery is active, the church from the demisol being sanctified in 2003, and in 2005 the nunnery community led by Mother Abbot Agnia Ciuban was installed. The monastery's complex, built in Maramures style, includes the Church, the Monastic House, the Summer Altar, the Pangar (church store), in a beautiful ambience given by Livada dendrological park. Must underline that the church, with its 75 m (78 m?) Height, is the highest wooden church in the world. Only the cross (object of art) on the top of the tower is 7 m high and is wrapped with 4 kg of gold leaf.

The Fortified Roman Catholic Church ”The Assumption of the Virgin” is situated at the end of a rocky promontory who dominates the valley of Olt river in the Ciucul de Sus area and separates the villages of Cârţa and Ineu.
The church and the fortified wall were built at the beginning of the 15th century.
The Church of Cârta is probably the best fortified church in Szeklerland. The wall is 8 m high, 2 m wide and it is equipped with a superb covered guard road, unique between Szekler fortified churches. The wall has an oval shape and is fortified with embrasures and one tower (the bell tower). The village cemetery having some old funeral monuments is situated at the west of fortified enclosure, being accesible by a ”new” gate made in the wall at the end of the 18th century. The main entrance (in the east, under the tower) was reinforced in 1720 with a short wall with embrasures. In the next centuries more floors were added to the initial bastion, forming the actual bell-tower.
The original church was built in Gothic style at the beginning of the 15th century. In the 18th century the church was heavily modified constructively and stylistically. It remains with the original Gothic style only the space of the altar (the presbytery), the rest being modified in Baroque style. It was build a transept, the southern side (with the statue of St. Anton de Padova) being also a way of acces, and the northern side a smaller altar. The central personage of the main altar is the Holy Virgin Mary, who also gives the church name. The name of the church is Nagyboldogasszony, and the translation Assumption of the Virgin don't gives us the full meaning. The north side transept houses the old altar (before 1920) of the church and a medieval font, carved in stone. The main personage of this old altar is, of course, the Holy Virgin, accompanied by saints Stephen and Ladislau. The western choir is supported on pilasters and 10 wooden pillars decorated with popular motifs. The organ was made in the workshop of the great craftsman Angster József in 1893.
Biserica romano-catolică fortificată Adormirea Maicii Domnului este situată la capătul unui promontoriu stâncos care domină valea râului Olt în zona Ciucului de Sus și separă satele Cârța și Ineu. Biserica și zidul fortificat au fost construite la începutul secolului al XV-lea. Biserica din Carta este probabil cea mai puternic fortificată biserică din Ținutul Secuiesc. Zidul are o înălțime de 8 m, lățime de 2 m și este dotat cu un superb drum de pază acoperit, unic între bisericile fortificate secuiești. Zidul are o formă ovală și este fortificat cu ambrazuri și un turn (clopotniță). Cimitirul satului, care are câteva monumente funerare vechi, este situat la vest de incinta fortificată, fiind accesibil printr-o poartă noua străpunsă în zidul de piatră la sfârșitul secolului al XVIII-lea. Intrarea principală (în est, sub turn) a fost întărită în 1720 cu un zid scurt cu ambrazuri. În secolele următoare au fost adăugate mai multe etaje la bastionul inițial, formând actualul turn-clopotniță.
Biserica originală a fost construită în stil gotic la începutul secolului al XV-lea. În secolul al XVIII-lea biserica a fost puternic modificată constructiv și stilistic. A rămas în stilul gotic original doar spațiul altarului, restul fiind modificat in stil baroc. A fost construită un transept, partea sudică a acestuia (cu statuia Sf. Anton de Padova) fiind și cale de acces, iar partea de nord un altar mai mic.
Personalitatea centrală a altarului principal este Sfânta Fecioară Maria, care dă și numele bisericii. Numele bisericii este Nagyboldogasszony, iar traducerea Adormirea Maicii Domnului nu redă întreaga semnificație. În partea nordică a transeptului se află găsesc vechiul altar (înainte de 1920) al bisericii și o crsietlniță medievală sculptată în piatră. Principalul personaj al acestui vechi altar este, desigur, Sfânta Fecioară, însoțit de sfinții Ștefan și Ladislau. Corul vestic este susținut pe pilaștri și 10 stâlpi de lemn decorați cu motive populare. Orga a fost făcută în atelierul marelui meșteșugar Angster József în anul 1893.

From March 4-6, 2009 altogether 19 Bishops from various countries have visited the ITI (International Theological Institute) in Gaming, Austria. 150 Attendees listened attentively while the Bishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches did discuss on the Symposium The Mission of the Eastern Catholic Churches in the Life of the Universal Church and for the Modern World.
The Consensus was, that the Eastern Catholic Churches are aware of their role as bridge builders helping to connect Orthodox Christians with Roman Catholics through Dialogue and a deeper understandig.
This certainly is a continuous challenge as the Eastern Catholic Churches are often seen by their Orthodox brothers as betrayers and by Roman Catholics as strangely different.
The Eastern Catholic Churches do acknowledge the Pope of Rome as the head of their Church, at the same time they cherish their Orthodox traditions, which manifests especially in the colorful Byzantine Liturgy, the Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me) and many other details like accepting married priests etc.
One Bishop said on the Symposium at the ITI in Gaming: it is good to know the differences between the Churches. But isnt it the most essential to follow the footseps of Christ, seeking to life according to the Gospel? What testimony can be greater than LOVE? If we learn to love each other and learn to love even our enemies, then Jesus Christ will truly live in our hearts. Like this we will give the greatest testimony to the world.
Wont enemies eventually cease to exist, if your love conquers their heart? Think about it.

The ladies at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church get together once a week and it's not all fun and games. We get to see each other and talk and harp and gripe and everything else-it's life-so here we are says church trustee Nadia Marc. They are making lunch. It's a thirty year tradition here. The volunteers arrive at eight in the morning and will create as many as seventy dozen pierogi or as they call them around here varenyky. There are cabbage rolls and beet soup too. You can eat in or take out and the dining room is open from 11am until 3pm. They do all of this to raise money for the church and because it is fun to get together and socialize. Congresul Național al Studenților Economiști din România - 2016
Congresul Național al Studenților Economiști din România, eveniment realizat de Organizația Studenților Economiști s-a desfășurat în perioada 15 – 17 aprilie 2016, în cadrul Facultății de Științe Economice și Gestiunea Afacerilor din Cluj-Napoca.
La congres au fost prezenți un număr de 70 de participanți din diverse centre universitare din România: Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Craiova, Timișoara, București, Oradea și Tîrgu Mureș, participanții fiind studenți ai facultăților de profil economic.
Ceea ce a caracterizat Congresul Național al Studenților Economiști din România 2016 a fost informarea participanților asupra temelor de dezbatere cu o săptămână înainte de începerea evenimentului, punctualitatea desfășurării sesiunilor din cadrul evenimentului, implicarea atât a instituțiilor de învățământ superior, cât și a mediului privat și nu în ultimul rând cadrul pentru desfășurarea evenimentului – Facultatea de Științe Economice și Gestiunea Afacerilor.
