ABRUZZO - CAMPLI città d'arte della Scala Santa [Hd 1080p]
© CLAUDIO MORTINI °°°
The Holy Steps (ROMEing Around 35) | #ItalyPilgrimage
Episode 35 of ROMEing Around, a Millennial Pilgrimage to Italy. In this episode, I follow the footsteps of suffering by climbing the Holy Steps with my knees.
Partial transcript: The Holy Stairs are known locally as the Scala Sancta. If you recall the Gospel accounts, you'd also be confused as to how Jesus ended up in Rome. You're not crazy, he never even stepped foot in Italy. The steps were bought by St Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, and moved from Jerusalem to Rome around 326. Also known as the Stairs of Pilate, they led into the former Lateran Palace. The stairs were covered up to prevent wear and the marble is protected by wood covering.
In the many days of walking in Italy, the sores on my feet had made me walk around them, causing my to strain muscles and walk with a limp. After climbing the steps, I experienced no more pain and was able to walk normally for the rest of the pilgrimage.

WYD 2011 - Rome - The top of the Scala Santa (Holy Stairs)
Scala Sancta
Scala Sancta
La scala santa di Campli
Scala Pilati).

A day in Abruzzo among Cheese, Wine & Locals
A day in Abruzzo among Cheese, Wine & Locals
Jayne & Arthur from USA visiting Abruzzo for their first time.
They decided to venture the unbeaten path of Italy, stopping by Abruzzo and Experience BellaVita. From Francavilla, close to Pescara, they were transferred to the province of Teramo.
On this winter day, we learned how to make cheese and ricotta at a family-owned organic farm on the hills of Teramo. We made cow cheese & ricotta, tasted the freshly made cheeses, home-produced delicatessens & organic wine. The owner Giacomo took us to see the sheep and the Abruzzo's shepherd dogs, their goats and cows.
Along the way, we stopped to the beautiful & ancient town of Campli where we visited one of the 3 the 'Scala Santa' (Holy stairs) in the world.
In the afternoon, we proceeded with a visit to a historic winery on the hills of Teramo where they produce the iconic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG.
The tasting included:
- their sparkling wine, Metodo Classico from Abruzzo,
- 2 vintages of Trebbiano,
- a Pecorino wine,
- a Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo (Rose'),
- a current vintage of red Montepulciano DOC,
- their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva DOCG from 2012
- and their fortified wine made with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grapes.
A total of 8 wines & selection of extra virgin olive oils, cheeses & cured meats.
Pure pleasure and a fantastic way to spend a day in Abruzzo, discovering the hidden culinary paths of the region with the local guide Marino from Experience BellaVita.

la Scala Santa vera e propria, affiancata da altre quattro rampe di scale, due alla sua destra e altrettante alla sua sinistra;
la cappella di San Lorenzo in Palatio, detta Sancta Sanctorum, cioè la cappella privata del papa, vescovo di Roma, fino agli inizi del XIV secolo; è in questa cappella che è custodita l'Acheropita lateranense, ossia la pala d'altare della cappella papale;
l'oratorio di San Silvestro in Palatio, cui si accede dalla prima rampa di scale a destra;
