Excitement between Ukrainian Greek Catholic & Ukrainian Orthodox Churches

- Two reasons of excitement: People in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine found themselves in the same camp as the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church. Soviets used the Great Patriotic War to claim that they had liberated Western Ukraine from fascist NAZI tyranny, reunited a divided Ukraine, and lay blame Greek Catholics for collaborating with the NAZIs.
- 1:28 Crimea and Donbas: Moscow Patriarchate has officially blamed the Ukrainian Greek Catholics and former Autocephalists and Kyivan Patriarchate for creating a climate that led to the war in Ukraine
- 1:50 Phenomenon of the Maidan is not sufficiently developed. Scholarly literature: Maidan was a transformative experience
- 3:15 Greek Catholics and Kyivan Patriarchate took the most visible action. There were clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate on the Maidan
- 4:35 The Greek Catholics have not enjoyed a dialogue with the Moscow Patriarchate, a spirit of hostility between the churches; pseudo council of Lviv 1946 and Greek Catholics being forced to self-liquidate their own church
- 5:35 This dialogue should not be confused with resolving schism between Constantinople and Rome. Kyiv Church Study Group has ground breaking proposals that should be taken seriously. But the Orthodox Church is not ready to take this step yet mostly because they have to resolve their own internal differences
- 6:30 Ukrainian intellectuals in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine have expressed hope to create an Orthodox version of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv. This is an expression of respect for UCU in providing first rate, top shelf academic training for their students

First Procession of Ukrainian Orthodox Church
The Orthodox Church of Ukraine has held its first procession since receiving the Tomos of Autocephaly, the decree of self government. Thousands walked through central Kyiv to the monument dedicated to Volodymyr the Great to mark one thousand and 31 years since the baptism of the Kyivan Rus'.

Vinnitsa Cathedral Transfer From Moscow Patriarchate
A Cathedral in Vinnitsa has been transferred from the Moscow Patriarchate to the Ukrainian Orthodox church, which was created on December 15 at the Unification council in Kyiv. For participation in the council, the Synod of the Moscow patriarchate banned the Metropolitan of Vinnitsa and Bar, Simeon, forbidding him to serve. In turn he announced the transition to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Ukraine: Easter candles light up the Donetsk night
Hundreds gathered in Donetsk to celebrate the beginning of the Easter holiday at the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral on Sunday.
Believers carried candles and recited prayers, led by an Orthodox priest.
Two women who participated in the celebrations, Oksana and Olga, emphasised the importance of Easter as a time for peace, love and unity.

Blessing of First Fruits for the year. Transfiguration
n the Eastern Orthodox Church, grapes are traditionally brought to church to be blessed after the Divine Liturgy on this day (if grapes are not available in the area, apples or some other fruit may be brought). This begins the Blessing of First Fruits for the year. The Transfiguration falls during the Dormition Fast, but fish, wine and oil are allowed to be consumed on this day in recognition of the feast. The Transfiguration is the second of the Three Feasts of the Saviour in August, the other two being the Procession of the Cross (August 1) and the Icon of Christ Not Made by Hand (August 16). The Orthodox view the Transfiguration as not only a feast in honor of Jesus, but a feast of the Holy Trinity; for all three Persons were actively present: God the Father spoke from heaven; God the Son was the one being transfigured, and God the Holy Spirit was present in the form of a cloud. In this sense, the transfiguration is also considered the Small Epiphany (the Great Epiphany being that of the Baptism, where the Holy Trinity appears in a similar pattern).

Ukraine: Russian Orthodox deanery set ablaze in Kiev
Arsonists targeted a deanery belonging to the Transfiguration of the Lord temple in Kiev's Oblon district, on Sunday evening. The building belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church.
The so-far unidentified perpetrators broke down the front door and set fire to the interior, as well as the exterior of the deanery- located in Avtozavodskaya Street - before fleeing the scene.

Ukraine: Odessa's dead honoured by Orthodox Christians in Lugansk
A religious procession organised by the Lugansk Orthodox church marched through the streets on Sunday, paying tribute to the 42 people killed in Friday's fatal blaze at Odessa's Trade Union House.
Praying for peace to resume in Ukraine, the Orthodox Christians called for a solution to be found to stop the escalating violence and crisis happening in the country.

Звонят на Волынской земле новые колокола Зимненского Успенского Женского монастыря Украинской Православной Церкви с молитвой о жителях Донецка - патриотах Украины - о достойных людях, там пребывающих, о погибших и без вести отсутствующих. Звон мы совершали вместе с человеком, очень похожим на Марка, спецназовца, - старшего сына Православной семьи: Валентина и Марии; живы два брата и сестра.

Orthodox Christendom marks the Day of Transfiguration of Jesus today, August 19.
Catholic Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will deliver a divine Liturgy at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.
The Gospels state that - Once at the top of a mountain Jesus became transfigured, his face shining like the sun, and his clothes a brilliant white; a bright cloud appeared overhead, and a voice from Heaven proclaimed, 'This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased'.
Transfiguration Day of Jesus is one of the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church. Traditionally, fruit is brought to church to be blessed on this day.
