Abandoned Cheltenham to Honeybourne Railway Pt 2 of 2
In the second part of this Abandoned Cheltenham to Honeybourne project, we concentrate on the section from Broadway in the Cotswolds to Honeybourne. The film goes some way to explaining why the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Heritage Railway goes no further at present. Whilst the track bed offers little in the way of restoration challenges, the bridges, 7 in total, require a lot of work and finance to keep them safe and useable. whether we shall ever see steam trains travel this route in the future remains a cause for speculation. This line that started in Cheltenham actually carried on to Stratford on Avon, the council there have suggested some help in restoring the line as a joint venture in the future, and provides probably the only hope of access to sufficient capital to make it possible. Meanwhile Honeybourne would be useful as a link to a mainline but would still need a vast amount spent. Even as just a cycle path the bridges would still need a lot of work as you can see.
TRAINRIDE - The Honeybourne Line (GWSR) - Cheltenham RC to Broadway (Buffet Car)
Hello everybody, Welcome back to UrbanPointFilms, welcome to the Trainride series. Today, we're on the Honeybourne Line also known as the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, A Heritage Railway, from Cheltenham Racecourse (Opened in 2003) to Broadway (Opened in 2018).
The Cotswold Line, Oxford-Hereford
On a GWR HST from Oxford we leave the line to Banbury and Birmingham at Wolvercote and run into Hanborough, to which Churchill's coffin was brought for burial in Bladon. Then through Charlbury and Kingham to Moreton-in Marsh, junction for the closed line to Shipston-on-Stour. After Campden Tunnel and Bank (1:100) we drop into Honeybourne, once a junction on the line from Cheltenham, which the GWSR hope one day to reopen. We cross the River Avon on either side of Evesham and at Norton junction join the line from Cheltenham. After Worcester Shrub Hill the line curves to the right to Wolverhampton, while we go sharp left to Foregate Street.. Two stops in Malvern and we go onto single track on a steep climb under the Malvern Hills. After Ledbury, passing many hop gardens for which the area is famous, we join the line up to Shrewsbury, holding up another train as we are still very late, and drop into Hereford, our third county town on the route.
This was filmed some years ago on my old camera and the quality is not as i would like; but you would be lucky nowadays to do such a trip as GWR joins others in running only nasty, air-conditioned boxes.

Last Calls for Cheltenham - 1965
The old GWR terminus station at Cheltenham Spa (St James) lost a considerable amount of its purpose in 1961 when through trains over the MSWJR were withdrawn, closely followed by Kingham services the following year. By Summer 1965 just a few DMU services to Gloucester survived and a number of these are seen in May at the station and the nearby intermediate Chelenham Spa (Malvern Road), complete closure taking place on 3rd January 1966.

This is from an old B/W negative of me at 4. I used a 3D modeling program to recreate the street. I used the old negative to texture the model parts. The quality of the negative is not good and I had to do some digital repairs of scratches etc. The camera panning was done by animating it in the program.
