Hungerford Town. Berkshire. Heavy rain and Thunderstorm. High Street. Saturday 27.08.2016.
We were in Hungerford this afternoon, and the sky suddenly turned very dark. This was followed by very heavy rain, some lightning, and a thunderstorm. The camera doesn't really show just how dark it became, but lots of people came out of their shops to watch it!
Hungerford Hocktide
Hungerford is now the only place in England where Hocktide exists. Hocktide DayIt is held on the second Tuesday after Easter. At 8 am in the morning a horn is blown at the Town Hall to summon the commoners to the Hocktide Court held at 9 am. The Bellman travels through the town over the hour to make everyone aware of the summons, and warn of the fines if they don't attend. Before the commencement of the court the Tutti Men with their decorated Tutti Poles, Orangeman, and Tutti Girls leave the Town Hall to collect all the dues form the common right properties. These days the dues consist of drink, kisses for the Tutti Men and Tutti Girls, in exchange for oranges for the occupants. This goes on until late in the evening until all commoners properties have been visited. Also as part of the event there is a 4 hour long luncheon for those invited and the traditional 'shoeing the colts'.
‘Sports News’: Eastbourne Borough 3 v 1 Hungerford Town –National League South Highlights
Eastbourne Borough met Hungerford Town in the Vanarama National League South, in a match sponsored by Lushington Motors ( It was a game of two halves, with both teams were looking for points: the ‘Sports’ to keep in contact with the leading pack and the ‘Crusaders’ to break away from the bottom pack. At first it looked like Hungerford might just walk away with a result, but a committed second half performance and a couple of great goals by Ryan Hall saw the Borough walk away with all the points. A game with incident and controversy surrounding a possible Geoff Hurst style goal or no goal and a sending off.
These highlights include Jamie Howell’s, post-match interview.

FA TROPHY FINAL COUNTDOWN: Cambridge United meet Gosport Borough at Wembley
Cambridge United and Gosport Borough meet at Wembley Stadium on Sunday for the 45th FA Carlsberg Trophy Final.
Cambridge, from the Conference Premier, and Gosport, from the Conference South, are both playing in their first Final.
Managed by ex-Fulham and Liverpool centre-half Richard Money, the U's are currently in one of the Conference play-off positions.
En route to their Wembley appearance they knocked out Salisbury City, St Albans City, Luton Town, Eastleigh and Grimsby. Defender Ian Miller has already played in two Trophy Finals -- for Darlington (2011) and Grimsby (2013).
Gosport, from near Portsmouth on the Hampshire coast, are just above the Conference South's relegation zone -- albeit with games in hand -- and will be the underdogs.
Only seven years ago they were playing in the Wessex League at Step Five. Boss Alex Pike won The FA Vase as Wimborne Town's manager in 1992 and has seen his Boro' charges knock out Dorchester Town, Concord Rangers, Nuneaton Town, Hungerford Town, North Ferriby United and Havant & Waterlooville.
Two goalscorers to look out for at Wembley are Ryan Bird for the U's and Tim Sills for Boro'. They both scored all of their clubs' three goals in the Semi-Finals.
Clubs from the leagues immediately below the Football League previously had no realistic chance of playing in a Wembley Final before The FA Council decided to start an 'FA Challenge Trophy' competition in 1969.
It was open to all non-Football League clubs registering professional players. Macclesfield Town were the first winners, beating Telford United 2-0 before a 28,000 Wembley crowd. The Trophy Final came back to the almost brand new Wembley in 2007. Stevenage Borough edged Kidderminster Harriers 3-2 before a record attendance for the competition of 53,262 and Stevenage skipper Ronnie Henry became the first to lead his team up the 107 steps to the Royal Box.
The Trophy holders are Wrexham, who beat fellow Conference Premier side Grimsby Town on penalties after a 1-1 draw in last year's showpiece.
Tickets are priced at £30 for adults and £15 for children under 16.
You can buy your ticket online by here or by calling out hotline on 0844 980 0656.
