Grimwade PopUp Exhibition - Ian Potter Museum of Art - Maize Wallin and Liam Whittaker
In the last few months Melbourne composer, Liam Whittaker and I have been involved in a research project with The Ian Potter Museum of Art.
Our task was to look at the Grimwade collection and construct our own interpretation based on research. This collection is very varied, reflecting Russell Grimwade's own interests as a collector, an industrialist, chemist, and entrepreneur, with a fascination with early Melbourne history in particular. It includes many works of art in various media, including decorative arts, drawings and prints, furniture, paintings, photographs, prints and textiles, including curiosities such as the Timber eucalypt specimen cabinet made by Grimwade from local timbers.
The outcome:
Curated sensory exhibit featuring works from the Grimwade collection that focuses mainly on Melbourne transportation.
We will have 3 walls showing the various prints and photos collected by Grimwade on the subject of transportation. Each wall will focus on either Trains/Trams, Boats, or Horses/Horse drawn vehicles.
Accompanying the pieces will be soundscapes created from found sounds, scents and hopefully some things for you to pick up and touch that relate to the textures within the pieces of art.
