Mount Meru Game Lodge and Animal Sanctuary Tanzania - Tour and Review
Join me on a tour and review of the Mount Meru Game Lodge and Animal Sanctuary near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. About 50 minutes drive from the airport this lodge was created in 1959 and still family owned and run. There are cottages dotted around the lush green grounds as well as many animals to view in the sanctuary in the grounds and close to the cottages. I show you around the property, take you through one of the standard rooms and show you some of the animals in the sanctuary.
I stayed here whilst on a safari with Titan Travel called Wild Plains of Tanzania. Watch my Tanzania playlist to see the other lodges I stayed at - as well as highlights of the safari and animals seen.

Making Authentic Tanzanian Coffee Pt. 1
Making coffee the Materuni tribe style in Tanzania is a 14-stage process. Here is what happens after the coffee maker (who should not be colorblind) has picked out the beans--the redder, the more ripe. The coffee maker shares great insight into the coffee making business and advice on buying coffee/not drinking milk. The coffee making process includes singing and dancing. So fun, so educational and mmm delicious coffee!
Dalali: Renter's 'Paradise or hell'?
Real estate agencies/agents are still a relatively new venture in Tanzania. To the most in Tanzania, ‘Dalali’ is a definition of a real estate agent. To date, the market that Dalalis are operating on is unregulated with no clear structure, roles & processes set in conducting business in the market space. We had an interview Dalali Mwanamke to get views and insights on this. #Tanzaniaworks

Arusha City, Tanzania, 2018
Located at the bottom of Mt. Meru in northern Tanzania, Arusha city is the headquarters of the East African Community. It is also one of the most important tourist centres in East Africa, acting as the gateway to some of Africa's most famous tourist attractions, namely, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and the iconic snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Dating back to the German colonial era, Arusha city has a population of 416 442. Spatially, it has distinct central district (CBD) that is still mainly low rise with some scattered medium rise buildings particularly at its core. With exception of some paved street pavements, a well maintained big roundabout called Clock Tower Roundabout, and some private open spaces owned by some hotels, the city lacks adequate planned public urban spaces like squares, plazas, city parks, pedestrianized streets,, etc. Away from the CBD, low rise detached buildings become dominant.
Vividly noticeable in the city's overall spatial form is its low physical density. That provides great potential for densification through introduction of lets say skyscrapers and modern urban blocks for both commercial and residential uses. Such densification is probably the best future development option for the city and the CBD in particular, instead of some current proposals for satellite settlements.
Redevelopment of the city in the above way, could be very cost effective as it will allow optimization of the use of existing infrastructure, as well as avoiding high costs for land acquisition that are often characteristic of new satellite settlement projects. Redevelopment through densification could also allow the generation of good urban spaces like squares, plaza, pedestrianized streets, urban block inner courtyards, etc. Furthermore, such redevelopment could enhance the beauty of the city to a very great deal.
As a tourist centre, Arusha city offers many world class hotels that include Mount Meru Hotel, Four Points By Sheraton Arusha, Kibo Palace Hotel, Arusha Crown Hotel, and Impala Hotel among others. Also located in the city is an international conference centre. Furthermore, the city is served by a nearby international airport, namely Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Tanzania: Elective Placement Experience 2013
The presentation explores some of my experiences undertaking the elective placement in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; including some background to some of the issues that are affecting the country. I hope that the photos bring across at least a little of this vast and colourful country; but also the hospital environment, where I spent my time.
The most valuable experience that the placement has provided to me: is a broader context and insight into the issues that are affecting radiology services in a developing country. One of my personal observations, and one shared with many of the other students, is the most powerful thing that we can provide countries like Tanzania is knowledge. Money and other resources can be thrown at any situation, but it does not always provide the answer.
Furthermore; during my time working in the hospital, but also whilst travelling within the country I met many Tanzanians, who wanted to talk about their nation and the problems that affect its development. Despite these issues, it is very apparent that in a traditionally tribal nation with a near 50/50 split of Christians and Muslims: there is a near lack of tribal or religious problems that destabilise a lions-share of the continent. The people for the most part see themselves as Tanzanians first and foremost. What this demonstrates, I believe, is a country that will help lead the continent forward. For me, I feel blessed to have a direct insight into this diverse nation. For which, I have everything to thank both the Society of Radiographers and Work the World; for providing me with such valuable life experience.
Payment Revolution in Tanzania - A user experience report by Nearex
Cards are replacing cash payments as they are extremely convenient, but Cashless Payments have remained a distant dream across emerging markets due to poor payment infrastructure. In Tanzania more than 75% of the population is financially included through mobile money. But only 1% use mobile money to pay in person for goods and services as mobile payments lack the familiar Ease of Use of a Card & a POS.
Airtel Tanzania has launched an affordable CARD & POS solution for daily small payments using Mobile Money. This Tap & Pay solution uses NFC TAG for a consumer and a specially designed ruggedised POS for any merchant in Tanzania.
Within few months of launch, thousands of merchants & many more consumers, in the city of Dar es Salaam have readily adopted Tap Tap!

Tansania - Reise Teil 1
Part 1
- some impressions of my journey to Tansania / East-Afrika in 2009,
I was volunteering for the organization HELP FOR THE MASSAI
Help Us Raise Funds for Our Tanzania Medical Volunteer Trip!!!
The proceeds raised will go to cover our flight costs to Tanzania. In Arusha, Tanzania, we will work in St. Elizabeth's hospital as volunteers for an entire month. We hope to gain experience and insight into what it truly means to be medical professionals. Besides insight into the medical field, we are looking forward to making lasting connections with the people of Arusha. Ideally, the funds will be raised by early May. Your support means everything to us, and we are grateful for any amount you can donate to make this trip a reality. No sum is too small, thank you for your help!

Kilimanjaro Machame Route - Video Documentary
Watch as I recap each day of the climb and give you a quick tour of each camp. I also provide narrative giving you insight to how the climb is going. I created this video to give future climbers a better idea of what to expect up there.
I apologize for the loud wind noise at some camps but it is unavoidable with the cheap point & shoot camera I made this with. I reduced the volume at those points in the video so that it doesn't blow your ear drums.
If you plan on climbing Kili in the future but still have unanswered questions after watching this, feel free to ask in the comments.
