ROMEO & JULIET William Shakespeare famous quotes | Stratford-upon-Avon England
The play Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. The story belongs to a tradition of tragic romances stretching back to antiquity. Its plot is based on an Italian tale translated into English during the 1560s. Shakespeare borrowed heavily from this source but expanded and embellished the plot by developing supporting characters - and to heighten tension, switched between comedy and tragedy. Shakespeare's version was written and first performed in the early to mid 1590s, and the text was first published in 1597.
Since the Bard's death in 1616, Romeo and Juliet has been adapted numerous times around the world in many languages for stage, opera, musical, radio, television and film.
Several lines from the play have become iconic, including:
CHORUS: Prologue
Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life
ROMEO: Act 1, Scene 5
O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
ROMEO: Act 1, Scene 5
If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
ROMEO: Act 2, Scene 2
But soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun!
ROMEO: Act 2, Scene 2
See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek!
JULIET: Act 2, Scene 2
O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo
Deny thy father and refuse thy name
JULIET: Act 2, Scene 2
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet
JULIET: Act 2, Scene 2
O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon,
That monthly changes in her circled orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.
JULIET: Act 2, Scene 2
Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.
MERCUTIO: Act 3, Scene 1
A plague o' both your houses!
ROMEO: Act 3, Scene 1
O, I am fortune's fool!
JULIET: Act 3, Scene 2
Give me my Romeo; and, when I shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
JULIET: Act 3, Scene 5
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear
ROMEO: Act 5, Scene 3
Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
PRINCE: Act 5, Scene 3
A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
We hope you have enjoyed this presentation and look forward to sharing history with you again soon.

The Birthplace Fool, The Birthplace Apothecary and Assistant Witches cast the spell from Macbeth
Over the Easter holidays the Birthplace has been lucky enough to obtain the valuable services of our very own Birthplace Fool and Birthplace Apothecary. This troublesome twosome are helped out by members of the RSPC - Royal Shakespeare Puppet Company - and have found our younger visitors are particularly adept at assisting with the casting of spells and the mixing of powerful potions.
Rapper Sword (our first time in England!)
Five men of Het Utrechts Morris Team showing for the very first time their first (and only) rapper sword dance. Line up at the start from left to right (number 5 to 1): Floris Jan, Koos, Arnold, Henning and Keith. On fiddle Kees and on the squeeze-box Marcel. Shot in St. Leonard's church, Bretforton, Worcestershire, England, on July 1st 2007.
Utrecht MM were the guests of Foxs Border Morris at the Foxtrot 2007 Weekend from June 29 till July 1.
Utrecht was asked to display their rapper dance in the church. Of course Utrecht felt very honoured, even though when travelling to England for the weekend we intended to keep the rapper low profile since we feel we're not up to standard yet. The carpet and small space both made for some difficult dancing - and there were some minor mistakes and one big in the Prince of Wales (showing the star and spinning around - one of the swords was let loose!). And no song and no somersault yet - but give us one or two years more...!
Utrecht Morris Team dances as a rule Cotswold Morris dances and only started the rapper in spring 2006.
Other guests at the Foxtrot weekend were Exmoor Border Morris, Stone the Crows, Step on Board, Powderkegs, Bunnies from Hell, with shows in Stratford-upon-Avon, Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway and Bretforton.
Look also for Part 1 and 2 of a video impression of the weekend and another integral video from Utrecht Morris Team from the same user.

Unfortunately circumstances change in life as we all know and have witnessed. The Ladykillers are officially on hiatus at this current time due the consistency of what is known as life and side projects.
However, we will defiantly be getting back into the studio soon when we are all ready to continue our journey in the music business! And we look forward to it!

A Visit with Feste, the Court Jester
According to the delightful Feste, the so-called fools of the Elizabethan court and aristocratic households of the times, were FAR FROM fools in the modern sense. They were one of the primary sources of entertainment and amusement and were highly skilled and schooled in the performing arts. To sharpen their wits, they were widely read so they could spice up their word-play with allusions to ancient as well as modern literature.
Shakespeare and the Churchill Family
As a 13-year-old boy, Winston Churchill entered (and lost) the Shakespeare Competition at Harrow School. His love of the Bard continued throughout his life and was shared by his family. Churchill Archives Centre Director Allen Packwood takes a look at some letters between the famous PM and his wife, Clementine, about performing the plays with their children.
Churchill's Shakespeare, on display at the Folger October 6, 2018 - January 6, 2019, explores Shakespeare's influence on British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's speeches, ideas, and life. Learn more at Tell us what you think on social media with #WinstonandWill!
