Switzerland is a mountainous Central European country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps. Its cities contain medieval quarters, with landmarks like capital Bern’s Zytglogge clock tower and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge. The country is also known for its ski resorts and hiking trails. Banking and finance are key industries, and Swiss watches and chocolate are world renowned.

How Is McDonald's Different In Switzerland?
Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan visited a McDonald's in Zürich, Switzerland to try the world's highest-priced Big Mac. The burger goes for 6.50 Swiss francs, which comes out to around $6.63. He also sampled some unique menu items that you can't get in the United States, such as the Quinoa Curry, the Steakhouse Classic, and the Toblerone McFlurry.
Following is a transcript of the video:
Graham Flanagan: This is a McDonald's in Switzerland. It's where you can buy the most expensive Big Mac in the world.
Welcome to Zürich, the largest city in Switzerland. I visited the McDonald's in the heart of the city's historic Old Town district.
It's a cold Friday night here in Zürich, Switzerland, and I just arrived at the McDonald's. There you see the golden arches. I'm gonna check it out and see if they have any special menu items you can't get in the States, see what it's all about. Let's go.
Okay, so I got a lot of food. My order came out to 32.50 Swiss francs. We're going to start with the Big Mac because this is the most expensive Big Mac in the world, apparently.
It's true, the Swiss Big Mac commands a higher price than any other country in the world. At 6.50 in Swiss francs, which is about $6.63 in US dollars. Compare that to the price of a Big Mac in the US at $5.58, which might suggest that the Swiss franc is overvalued by 19%.
But does it taste like the world's most expensive Big Mac? Let's see if there's anything special about it. There's nothing about that that makes me think that it should be the most expensive Big Mac in the world. No truffles, no raclette, it's a Big Mac. And I like that, I'm not complaining about that.
But what about the stuff you can't get at McDonald's in the United States?
Switzerland has plenty to offer. This is the Steakhouse Classic: two patties of beef, bacon, some very bright orange sauce on a nice sesame seed bun. Let's see how it is. OK, the orange sauce is like a barbecue sauce. It's tangy. It's got a kick for sure. This color of it is kind of off-putting, but it actually tastes pretty good. So, yeah, I unlocked the secret of the Steakhouse Classic. You've gotta lap up that sauce with fries.
And now it's time to try something that you don't see in very many McDonald's, it's what they call the Quinoa Curry. This is a pretty ambitious offering for McDonald's. Obviously trying to appeal to the vegetarians out there. It's not bad, I mean, but, if you're gonna bring curry into the mix, you want it to pack a little bit more of a spice, more of a kick. This is pretty bland. But it's great that they have a vegetarian option here.
Now we have to try that old McDonald's standby, the fries. They've got these pommes frites sauce packets, so I'm gonna try that and see if that stands out from what you can get in the States. So, it's basically like mayonnaise. It's more of an aioli. I enjoy mayonnaise on fries, I do. I'm very European like that. I'm very continental and sophisticated. They charged me 20 cents for the pommes frites sauce. Shouldn't that be complimentary?
I'm gonna finish it off with the Toblerone McFlurry. So Swiss. It looks very creamy. There's a few chocolate chunks in there. That's amazing. That's so rich and creamy and sweet. That's delicious. I mean, it tastes kind of like a chocolate milkshake. Very good, I love that, I love that. But now you know what time it is. It's time to dip the fries in the Toblerone McFlurry. If you don't dip your fries in your milkshake, you're doing it wrong.
Time for a final review. I wanted to try a few things that you can't get in the States, the Quinoa Curry and the Steakhouse Classic. I wasn't too crazy about them. McDonald's has lasted for so long because they do the basics so well. The unsung hero of this experience, the surprise of this experience, was the Toblerone McFlurry. I highly recommend getting that. So, that's McDonald's in Switzerland. But in terms of whether or not the McDonald's in Switzerland is better than the McDonald's in the States, I'm neutral.

Sixteen-year-old Swedish student and environmental activist Greta Thunberg joined thousands of climate change protesters in Lausanne for the 'Fridays for Future' rally on Friday, ahead of the 2020 Davos Summit of world leaders, set to take place next week.
We are now in a new year and we have entered a new decade and so far during this decade we have seen no signs whatsoever that real climate action is coming, and that has to change, Thunberg said addressing the crowd.
She added, young people from all across the globe have been school striking for their right for a future every Friday and for me personally this is week 74 of Fridays for future protests.
Thunberg went on to say to the world leaders and those in power, I would like to say that you haven't seen anything yet you have not seen the lots of us we can assure you that.
Next week Thunberg will join world leaders at the World Economic Forum 2020 in Davos. This year the forum will be largely focused on the intensifying global climate crisis.
Thunberg, who has been demonstrating on Fridays since August 2018 under the motto 'School strike for the climate' in front of the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm, is now well-known all over the world as she has inspired climate strikes globally. For her activities Greta has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

OLYMPIC MUSEUM LAUSANNE 2000 SWITZERLAND - ŠVICA
Future Lausanne - Olympic Headquarters by 3XN
Danish firm 3XN has shown the first images of its design for the new headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
According to 3XN, the new administrative home of the organisation governing the Olympic Games will feature a dynamic, undulating facade and an open and flexible interior.
In recognition of the symbolism of the Olympic Games and needs of the organisation, we designed the new IOC headquarters around three key elements: movement, flexibility and sustainability, said Jan Ammundsen, senior partner at 3XN, whose previous projects include the Copenhagen headquarters of the United Nations.
3XN was selected in April to develop its design for Olympic Unity House, ahead of 11 shortlisted architects including OMA, Toyo Ito and Amanda Levete.
With its dynamic, undulating facade, the building will appear different from all angles and convey the energy of an athlete in motion, added Ammundsen, explaining that the building's design will feature as few structural constraints as possible.
This open and flexible environment will adapt to multiple work styles now and in the future. Our design is also intended to encourage interaction, communication and knowledge sharing among staff.
The new headquarters will occupy a 24,000-square-metre opposite Château de Vidy, the historic home of the IOC. The design team say the structure will respect the legacy of the old building and the parkland setting.
Energy efficient systems will be integral to the design, including lake-water pumping, photovoltaic panels and daylight optimisation.

3XN Interview: Shaping the New IOC
How do you transform values into a building? We met with Danish architect and founder of the renowned studio 3XN, Kim Herforth Nielsen, to talk about their design for Olympic House – the spectacular new headquarters of the International Olympic Committee, which has been heralded as one of the most sustainable buildings in the world.
The IOC headquarters is formed around five key objectives, which echo the Olympic movement’s core principles: movement, transparency, flexibility, sustainability and collaboration. The dynamic, undulating glass façade emulates the movements of an athlete, just as the building is made to enhance the team-building of the organization, which is also an essential part of sports. The building brings together 500 employees who have hitherto worked in disparate offices throughout the city, and 3XN have worked with the symbol of the organization – the five rings – by making five staircases, which are organized in a way that makes it necessary to visit all the different floors when ascending: “That way you meet more people from the organization.” Designing with the employees in mind, is also apparent in the interior shape of the building, which adheres to the aim of having a flatter organization and consequently more equality: “Architecture shapes behaviour.” Moreover, the entire roof of the building is shaped as another symbol for IOC – the dove: “Because peace is very important, IOC is a peaceful organization.” Finally, Nielsen argues that he considers the building a sculpture or an installation that you can work in: “It becomes a big sculpture, monument if you want, telling the story about IOC placed in a park.”
Kim Herforth Nielsen (b. 1954) is the Founder and Creative Director at 3XN Architects. The studio was founded in Aarhus, Denmark in 1986 by architects Kim Herforth Nielsen, Lars Frank Nielsen and Hans Peter Svendler Nielsen. The practice had its international breakthrough in the late 1990s with the Danish Embassy in Berlin and the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall in Amsterdam. Among other high profiled projects are Segerstedthuset in Uppsala, Museum of Liverpool in Liverpool, Odenplan Station in Stockholm as well as Royal Arena, Ørestad College and The Blue Planet, all in Copenhagen. 3XN have won several prestigious awards including LEAF Award (2006), RIBA European Award (2005 and 2011) and RIBA International Award (2009). For more see:
Kim Herforth Nielsen was interviewed by Marc-Christoph Wagner at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland in June 2019. With friendly support from 3XN (stills) and the International Olympic Committee (animations and parts of the footage).
