A morning walk in Sheki, Azerbaijan
Sheki contains the iconic and beautiful views of this Azerbaijan province which is also back bone of this country. The border of Russia, Armenia and Georgia are quite near this city. So today we had a task to view Sheki Khan's Palace through a muddy and slippery way.

Martyrs' Lane, Alley of Martyrs or Şəhidlər Xiyabanı (transliterated to Shehidler Khiyabani), formerly The Kirov Park, is a cemetery and memorial in Baku, Azerbaijan dedicated to those killed by the Soviet Army during Black January and later to those killed in Nagorno-Karabakh War.
The Eternal Flame memorial at Martyrs' lane often covered by wreaths is usually attended by many presidents and dignitaries of Baku.
Martyrs' Lane is also home to Baku Turkish Martyrs' Memorial, the large memorial to the 1,130 Turkish troops, which were killed while fighting Bolshevik and Armenian forces in the Battle of Baku in 1918. Next to the memorial there is a Martyrs mosque also built by Turks. The memorial contains a hexagonal block cladded by red granite and at each face, a pure white marble crescent-star from Turkish national flag had fitted within and unveiled by the former Turkish president Süleyman Demirel and Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev with a prestigious ceremony in September, 1999.
Not far from the Turkish memorial there is a small wall acknowledging the British soldiers killed in the same conflict.
The idea of establishing the Eternal Flame memorial complex initially was put proposed in 1994. While considering the importance of this tragedy in the Parliament of Azerbaijan, with the initiative of the Azerbaijani National Heydar Aliyev, it was decided to erect a monument in memory of the martyrs.
Heydar Aliyev personally had kept this issue in the spotlight, giving the relative Commission instructions and recommendations. After one year, during the exhibition on the 5th anniversary of the tragedy, two projects are submitted to the President. Heydar Aliyev had a look at the model prepared by sculptor Omar Eldarov at his workshop as well. Since the projects illustrated only the tragedy, President Heydar Aliyev instructed to design several more projects.
Later, the projects are developed and the project developed by the design company run by honored architect Elbay Gasimzade won the competition. On August 5, 1998, National Leader President Heydar Aliyev issued an Order about ereting Eternal Flame monument in the Alley of Martyrs in Baku. The order entails provision of construction of Eternal Flame memorial complex by Baku City Executive Power and an offer to be made by the Cabinet of Ministers for allocating funds in amount of 2 billion AZN.
The Eternal Flame monument was inaugurated on October 9, 1998. The memorial complex which is at the Alley of Martyrs is composed of a tomb standing on an 8-pointed star crown of gold-framed glass dome. Elegant network decorating the walls of the tomb gives certain gentleness and air of transparency to the monument. Golden dome shining in nocturnal sky embodies the spirit of martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the independence of Azerbaijan.
In 2007, with President Ilham Aliyev’s Decree, within the framework of the reconstruction of Martyrs Alley, the columns of Eternal Flame were heightened and the pores of octangular star and eight-pointed mirror were made of gold.Wikipedia

Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus and variously considered part of Europe or Asia. The country lies on the Caspian Sea. It borders Russia and Georgia to the north, Armenia to the west, and Iran in the south. Through the autonomous exclave of Nakhchivan, which lies between Armenia and Iran, Azerbaijan also shares a short border with Turkey.

Azerbaijan is known for having nine of the 11 defined ecological zones. Much of the country is temperate year-round. Nation-wide the average temperature for the year is 14-15°C (57-59°F). The Caucasus Mountains protect the country from the Arctic air masses that affect Russia in winter while the Caspian Sea shields it from the hot, dry air of Central Asia in the summer.
Cabbage, grape leaves, and eggplant wrapped meat (kelem, yarpaq, badimjan - dolmasi), kabab (kebab), rice with different variety of toppings (plov - It is said that plov is the king of Azerbaijani cuisine), gutabs and meatballs (kufta) are some of the several specialties of Azerbaijan.
Some local drinks include ayran (a yogurt drink based on sour milk) and sherbet (made from rose petals or saffron). There are also different sorts of quite decent wines produced from local grapes and a wide array of mineral waters from natural springs. In some areas of Azerbaijan the markets offer lemonades (limonat/dushes) made from pears or taragon.
There is a good selection of hotels in Baku, including many Western chains, but options elsewhere in the country are limited. Prices for the hotels start from USD60 and higher. Rental apartments might be a good choice as they are cheaper than hotels and sometimes are even more comfortable.

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.

DIGITAL MEDIA TRAINING COURSES HELD IN THE REGIONS OF AZERBAIJAN
Today the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) reported on the achievement and results of the New media and regional outreach project supported by the European Union. . With a total of 117,876 EUR support from the European Union, IRFS continues to promote civil journalism throughout the country.
According to IRFS Chairman the main objective of the project is to give support to multimedia activists and citizens.
The project is being implemented by the NGO consortium led by the IRFS in Baku and four regions including Ganja, Nakhchivan, Lankaran and Guba. The NGO consortium consists of 3 NGOs: Democratic Journalism School, IRFS and Regional Human Rights and Media Center. In the past six months, IRFS and partners has organized a training course in each target region. The next round of training is planned for upcoming period. The most active participants from the previous trainings will have an opportunity to act as trainers themselves.
One of the trainers, journalist Shahvalad Chobanoglu, says the trainings have so far been very successful. He says there is a great interest in digital media in Ganja and Guba. According to him, training participants were mainly local journalists, human rights activists, active internet users and representatives from NGOs and youth organizations. We train them on how to use open-source and licensed programs, to upload filmed videos on the Internet, to create and use blogs and to use social media to find people who share the same opinion as us said Chobanoglu.
Unfortunately, Azerbaijani NGOs do not get maximum benefit out of internet and other ICT. Partners in the project, Rovshan Hajibayli and Khalid Kazimov underlined that the internet is insufficiently used in the regions and practical measures should be taken to tackle this problem.
Emin Huseynov condemned some pro-governmental mass media outlets, which claimed at the beginning of the project that it is aimed at breaking stability in the regions. It goes without saying that the action has significantly contributed to promotion of digital media and ICT even in the remote communities of Azerbaijan. This at the end of the day will result in better dialogue and public debate which are necessary attributes of democratic society.
