AVENUE Q UK 2019 TOUR ANNOUNCED
Guess Q’s back! The naughtiest puppets in town will be coming to a venue near you as comedy musical Avenue Q returns next year to tour the UK with all of your favourite fuzzy friends, opening at Portsmouth Kings Theatre 25 January 2019.
Following five years in the West End, sell-out runs worldwide and smash hit tours in 2014, 2015 and 2016 (packed with mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness!) Tony Award-winning Musical, created by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez ,Co-creator of Book of Mormon and writer of the songs for Disney’s Frozen, is an irresistibly charming tale of the loveable characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues.
Cast announced today includes Megan Armstrong, Jasmine Beel, Ellis Dackombe, Chloe Gentles, Nicholas Mclean, Robbie Noonan, Saori Oda, Cecily Redman, Lawrence Smith, Oliver Stanley and Tom Steedon .
Meet Princeton, a bright-eyed graduate who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fiancée Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his closet gay Republican roommate Rod, an Internet ‘sexpert’ called Trekkie Monster, Lucy the Sl*t (the name says it all!) and a very cute kindergarten teacher named Kate Monster. Featuring hysterically funny songs including The Internet is for Porn and Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist, Avenue Q is a hilarious musical with a warm (and very fuzzy) heart.
Avenue Q first opened Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2003, before transferring to Broadway later that year where it won three Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. In 2006 it transferred to the West End where it ran for five years before touring the UK. It has appeared in more than ten countries all over the world.
Avenue Q is produced by Selladoor Worldwide (producers of Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors, Flashdance - The Musical and Fame - The Musical), Showtime Theatre Productions and in association with Richard Darbourne Limited – Avenue Q is directed and choreographed by Cressida Carré, designed by Richard Evans, Lighting Designed by Charlie Morgan Jones and Sound Designed by Chris Bogg. Puppets are designed by Paul Jomain of Q Puppets with Puppet Coaching by Nigel Plaskitt.
Hilarious, cheeky and uproariously entertaining, with a cast of 11 hugely talented performers and puppets, Avenue Q is the musical like no other.
So don’t let your life suck – book your tickets today! (Suitable for audiences 14+)

The New Theatre Royal, Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth (U.K.)
This historic theatre has had quite a history since first erected, & has been seriously damaged several times, & has had its useage changed from being a theatre to being a cinema, bingo hall & even a wrestling venue (with a fair number of closures inbetween) before being restored back to (almost) its former glory as a theatre again. It's thanks to the serious dedication of many people who've donated their time, money & enthusiasm that we can now appreciate it again. More work has to be carried out, but so much has been done so far, that even if there are patches of crumbled plaster, etc., that only adds to its charm. Try & visit the theatre if you can ...... you're sure to receive a genuine welcome as I was, when I asked if I could roam around with my camera. The theatre's closed for a couple of weeks during the period that I went, so the lighting was down to minimum levels (which is why some of the photography is not as sharp as it should be), but I hope that my photos show how well their work's progressed.

Discover The Story Of When Laurel & Hardy Performed In Portsmouth
As the Kings theatre in Southsea celebrates it's 110th anniversary, the Archivist team have been unearthing new stories about the theatre's history.
And along the way members of the public have filled in some of the gaps by donating old show programmes and photographs.
But among these artifacts, are two images of big names from the early part of the 1900s, showing a well known Male impersonator, and a famous comic duo.
Our reporter Richard Stringer discovered the stories behind them.

Southsea Seafront To Portsmouth City Centre | Virtual Walk | December 2019 | Walk With Me UK
A slow wander from Southsea to Portsmouth high street.
Southsea is a seaside resort and geographic area, located in Portsmouth at the southern end of Portsea Island, Hampshire, England. Southsea is located to the south of Portsmouth city centre and to the east of Old Portsmouth. It developed as a fashionable Victorian seaside resort in the 19th century, originally named Croxton Town, but later adopting the name of nearby Southsea Castle, a seafront fort constructed in 1544 to help defend the Solent and approaches to Portsmouth Harbour. Southsea subsequently grew into a dense residential suburb and large, distinct commercial and entertainment area, separate from the centre of Portsmouth.
The areas surrounding Albert Road, Palmerston Road, and Osborne Road contain several bars, restaurants and independent shops. Palmerston Road is the main High Street of Southsea and contains a national department store, as well as the local library. Albert Road is a distinct street containing shopping and cultural venues, which includes the Kings Theatre, a regional theatre built in 1907.
Portsmouth (/ˈpɔːrtsməθ/) is a port city in Hampshire, England, with a total population of 205,400 residents. The city of Portsmouth is nicknamed Pompey and is mainly built on Portsea Island, a flat, low-lying island measuring 24 square kilometres (9 sq mi) in area, just off the south-east coast of Hampshire. Portsmouth is the only island city in the United Kingdom, and is the only city whose population density exceeds that of London.
Portsmouth is located 70 miles (110 km) south-west of London and 19 miles (31 km) south-east of Southampton. With the surrounding towns of Gosport, Fareham, Havant and Waterlooville, Portsmouth forms the eastern half of the South Hampshire metropolitan area, which includes Southampton and Eastleigh in the western half.
