Vietnam 2017 - HOI AN | City of Lantern - Die Stadt der Lampions
My one week trip to Vietnam, Hoi An. A beautiful ancient town with thousands of lantern shining in the evening. And in the streets there's really loud traffic with many many rollerbikes. The local people are so friendly, the streetfood is exciting and the rice fields around the city are great. Although the beaches are not the best I like Hoi An. But next time I will try to do a round trip through Vietnam to see more of this nice country.

Top 5 Things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam
Hoi An is only 40 km South of Da Nang in Central Vietnam. It’s an old trading town and served as a center of trade between South-East Asia and East Asia and the inland regions of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand due to it’s location along the Thu Bon River.
The history of the town starts with the Champa Kingdom and was the commercial center of the Kingdom before it shifted to Nha Trang futher South and trading activity declined.
Only in 1595 the trading post of Hoi An was officially established by the Nguyen dynasty which focused heavily on trade. Soon after, Hoi An became the most important trading town in the South-East Asia with merchants from China, Japan, India and Europe doing trading missions to the city.
This mix of cultures all collided in Hoi An and resulted in an unique heritage site in Vietnam. With the sharp decline of trading activity in the 19th century, Hoi An declined into poverty which in turn meant that Hoi An remained largely untouched in the last 200 years.
The remaining wooden structures and street lay-out are still original and a perfect example of 18th century town development. The most important example of foreign influence is the Japanese bridge (with pagoda) which connects two parts of the town.
Due to the increasing number of tourists and its narrow streets, the ancient town is no longer accessible by car or motorbike which greatly contributes to the atmosphere in the town.
The town has become a major touristic mecca in Vietnam and is filled with tailor shops who’ll make suits, cocktail dresses or the traditional Ao Dai in the size and color of your choosing. Small trinkets and the typical night lanterns can be found on any street corner.
Hoi An also caters to food lovers with delicious street food dishes such as Cau Lau (noodle soup), Com Ga (chicken rice), Banh Hoa Hong Trang (White Rose cake) or the best Banh Mi in Vietnam (a sandwich made for over 50 years by one lady known as the Queen of Banh Mi, ask me for the address of her shop). For the kitchen stars among you, Hoi An also offers many cooking classes which make use of local produce.
The area around the town can be easily discovered by bicycle. You will find small farms, spice gardens, fishing boat makers, tailor workshops etc. spread around in between the rice fields.
Hoi An beach or An Bang beach is only 6 km away from the old city center and can be compared to the beaches found in Da Nang.

Hoi An: My favorite place in Vietnam
This took forever to get rendered, but I am glad it has uploaded now! Hoi An was the best place for me among all the spots I visited in Vietnam. Not only does it have great warm to chilly weather, it also has a lot to offer: from the old town views, to the muted lights of the lanterns , to the flavorful tasty food. It indeed was a special visit for me. Not only did I get to spend and renew some time again with a loved one, I was also able to close that 5-year story of my life for good. Yes it was a hello and a goodbye trip after all the efforts.
To letting go and moving on, here is a 7 minute feature film of what you can find in Hoi An, Vietnam.
I love you and thanks for dropping by!

Lanterns released in Taiwan to mark year of rooster
(11 Feb 2017) Taiwan celebrated the year of the Rooster on Saturday evening with the release of dozens of lanterns
In Taipei, hundreds gathered to release paper lanterns, an annual tradition for the last 18 years, according to New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu.
Many wrote names and wishes on them in hope that they will bring good luck in the coming year.
Historically, lanterns were used in military communications along with beacon towers to pass information among troops over large distances.
The Lantern Festival ends the 15-day celebration of Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, and is celebrated on the night of the first full moon of the lunar New Year.

Exploring Hoi An, the Most Beautiful City in Asia [South East Asia Vlog # 17]
As soon as we arrived in Hoi An, we were pleasently surprised by it's charm.
During the day we visited some important places with our guide Phu.

We walked around in the evening and were blown away, flabbergasted by the beauty of this place! This can truely be the most beautiful city of Asia!
We ended the evening with a dinner in the Mango Mango restaurant.

Hi, I am Eileen from Belgium, nice to meet you. I started this channel two years ago but was not updating on a regular basis. After making some videos for friends and family, I realized this is something I love to do. I got inspired by some of my favorite YouTube channels such as Travellight, Kara & Nate, The Way Away and the Bucketlist Family. I accepted the challenge to visit all Belgian municipalities and because I love to travel, I do it as often as possible. I just got back from one month in Asia and the next trip is already booked!
Hoi An: The Art of Anh.
This video was shot in the historic, trading town of Hoian, Vietnam in 1998. The art work at the end is now in my living room. It is a picture of the artist Anh's grandfather and best friend. At the time, they could be often seen together on a regular basis as his cyclo (pedi cab) pedaled about the town. I wonder if he is still alive?

Hoi An Egg Coffee, Beetroot Coffee - Travel Vietnam 2018
For day two in Hoi An, Vietnam we set out to start the morning trying the famous Hoi An egg coffee and seeing if it was really worth all the hype it is getting in 2018. But we didn't stop there, we went on to try a couple of other coffees we had never heard, including one with beetroot, (although technically there was no caffeine in it), and what is meant to be Hoi An's best coconut coffee.
Be sure to let us know if you've tried egg coffee and what you thought of it.
We'd love it if you liked and shared this video, so others who haven't yet heard of us, also get a chance to share in the experience. Thanks :)

We are Leon and Tash, a New Zealand vlogging couple who set off on an amazing Vietnam adventure as fulltime travellers, backpacking Vietnam. But we weren't going to travel to Vietnam for one of those ordinary backpacking Vietnam trips you hear about everybody doing, where they go for a couple off weeks and check out the beaches or maybe riding through Vietnam at such a crazy pace that they never get off the beaten track. No we want more than that.
Our Vietnam adventures start with learning the way of the locals, taking just enough time to figure out how things work, discover what the Must see places in Vietnam are and more importantly where Vietnam's hidden gems are...
To do this, we moved to Danang Vietnam. The plan was to spend 3 months living in Da Nang, meeting and learning from locals about the culture, the amazing food, their way of living and what places they would recommend to travel in Vietnam.
And because Danang is in the middle of the country, we hoped we might meet other tourists or expats who were having their own Vietnam travel adventure or were at the halfway point of motorcycle riding through Vietnam and hear from them, what places they thought we must visit in Vietnam. Also, as new travel vloggers, having a base there meant we could try things like doing Da Nang Vietnam travel vlog or creating a Danang Vietnam travel guide, before also taking on the stresses of fulltime travel.
Then in month 4, that's when the real Vietnam adventure begins. With our new list of must see places, we will head to Saigon and buy a couple of motorbikes. to start our Vietnam road trip!
Motorcycle riding through Vietnam seems like one of the most hectic, crazy and chaotic things anyone could do, but we can't wait!! And we wont be following a simple South to North / Saigon to Hanoi route, we plan on doing more like a figure 8, so that our travel in Vietnam will cover both the inland and coastal areas of this amazing country.
So can we still say we are backpacking Vietnam? Or should we be telling people our travel in Vietnam is a motorcycle trip through Vietnam? We're not sure, but what we do know is, our Vietnam road trip is going to cover over 6000km's from Saigon right up to the famous waterfalls of Ban Gioc near Cao Bang, round the northern point of the Ha Giang loop and everything else we can access in between.
So we hope you'll join us, the New Zealand vlogging couple, on our Vietnam adventure by clicking subscribe to join the Tribe and experience our travel in Vietnam..

Gov't to give new life to traditional Korean attire with Hanbok Advancement Center
You can only see Koreans wearing the country's traditional hanbok clothing on special occasions, these days,... at weddings or on traditional holidays,... but not that long ago, Koreans from all walks of life wore it on a day-to-day basis.
Our Park Ji-won today reports on a new center ...that aims to breathe new life into this traditional attire. People wearing traditional Korean hanbok clothing gather at Seoul Station 284, a former train station-turned-art-gallery.
They have descended here in their special attire... to celebrate the launch of the Hanbok Advancement Center,... a governmental center with an aim of promoting the traditional clothing.
We are very grateful that a center, whose sole aim is to promote hanbok, has finally been established.
With the establishment of the hanbok center, the government hopes it pumps new life into the nation's dying culture of wearing the traditional clothing.
The center aims to make hanbok, which is the symbol of Korean culture, something the public wants to buy and wear so that ultimately, we can share the culture with the world.
The center will launch diverse projects to promote hanbok,... including hosting educational classes on the traditional attire and holding designer contests that discover new takes on hanbok.

Vietnamese Cuisine : An Introdution to Vietnamese Food
Prior to visiting Vietnam my experience with Vietnamese cuisine was rather limited. Having only sampled Pho and Vietnamese spring rolls I visited foreign territory not really sure what to expect. Well, I was certainly in for a surprise - a pleasant one. Vietnamese cuisine is one of the strongest in Southeast Asia in terms of its regional diversity and range of ingredients used in dishes. The following is a travel guide for the best Vietnamese food to sample while exploring the country:

1) Our favorite restaurant in Vietnam was Tra Que, a cooking school located on the outskirts of Hoi An in a rural village setting. Growing organic vegetables and herbs we ordered Vietnamese pancakes, three friends and papaya salad.
2) If you like finger food a visit to the Bale Well in Hoi An is an absolute must. Scarfing down country pancakes and spring rolls was on the agenda here. In order to make a proper roll you take cucumber, kimchi, salad, satay and a spring and wrap it in a piece of lettuce.
3) To learn how to cook Vietnamese food we headed over to Green Moss. Invited into the back of the kitchen we watched and helped prepare Pho, Cao Lau and pancakes.
4) We couldn't leave Hoi An without first sampling two very popular local delicacies - White Rose and Cao Lau. The shrimp dumplings were delicious and the thick noodles with pork brisket in a spicy coconut milk base really hit the spot. Apparently the local recipes are safeguarded by a few locals who are unwilling to share.
5) For our cheapest meal in Vietnam we headed to a vegetarian restaurant in Nha Trang called Au Lac. This pure vegetarian feast specialized in tofu based dishes with all kinds of Vietnamese veggies.
6) Don't leave Vietnam without trying a lemongrass based dish. One of the best we've ever had was at Lanterns restaurant in Nha Trang where paired this dish with shrimp claypot. Yum!
Although we got to sample many different kinds of Vietnamese dishes, we still felt we only scratched the surface. What are some Vietnamese dishes that you've tried that we didn't feature here?

The Great Gildersleeve: Gildy Is In a Rut / Gildy Meets Leila's New Beau / Leroy Goes to a Party
Aiding and abetting the periodically frantic life in the Gildersleeve home was family cook and housekeeper Birdie Lee Coggins (Lillian Randolph). Although in the first season, under writer Levinson, Birdie was often portrayed as saliently less than bright, she slowly developed as the real brains and caretaker of the household under writers John Whedon, Sam Moore and Andy White. In many of the later episodes Gildersleeve has to acknowledge Birdie's commonsense approach to some of his predicaments. By the early 1950s, Birdie was heavily depended on by the rest of the family in fulfilling many of the functions of the household matriarch, whether it be giving sound advice to an adolescent Leroy or tending Marjorie's children.
By the late 1940s, Marjorie slowly matures to a young woman of marrying age. During the 9th season (September 1949-June 1950) Marjorie meets and marries (May 10) Walter Bronco Thompson (Richard Crenna), star football player at the local college. The event was popular enough that Look devoted five pages in its May 23, 1950 issue to the wedding. After living in the same household for a few years with their twin babies Ronnie and Linda, the newlyweds move next door to keep the expanding Gildersleeve clan close together.
Leroy, aged 10--11 during most of the 1940s, is the all-American boy who grudgingly practices his piano lessons, gets bad report cards, fights with his friends and cannot remember to not slam the door. Although he is loyal to his Uncle Mort, he is always the first to deflate his ego with a well-placed Ha!!! or What a character! Beginning in the Spring of 1949, he finds himself in junior high and is at last allowed to grow up, establishing relationships with the girls in the Bullard home across the street. From an awkward adolescent who hangs his head, kicks the ground and giggles whenever Brenda Knickerbocker comes near, he transforms himself overnight (November 28, 1951) into a more mature young man when Babs Winthrop (both girls played by Barbara Whiting) approaches him about studying together. From then on, he branches out with interests in driving, playing the drums and dreaming of a musical career.
