My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Israel and Lebanon intensify patrols on border
Israeli and Lebanese forces are intensifying patrols along their border, after shelling and rocket attacks from both sides.
The tensions coincide with an Israeli offensive on Gaza.
On patrol along the Israel-Lebanon border.
Troops from both sides are stepping up their observation missions - in the wake of recent tensions.
It comes after the Lebanese Foreign Ministry lodged a complaint on Thursday with the UN Security Council over Israel's bombardment of southern Lebanon.
The Israeli artillery shelling was in retaliation to rocket fire launched by militants from villages in south Lebanon, coinciding with an Israeli offensive on Gaza.
We are working and life has to go on, says Mohammad Hamoud, a Kfar Kila resident.
We know the Jews are cowards and they proved that to the world, they can not conquer us if we were united. We are not scared of them. I am a citizen here, this is my land and I will stay here.
Southern Lebanon is a stronghold of the Shiite militant group Hezbollah, which has battled Israel numerous times.
However, recent fire from Lebanon has been blamed on other radical factions in the area while Hezbollah apparently has not been involved in the ongoing offensive.
In the complaint filed to the United Nations, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said Israel's shelling is a dangerous violation of Lebanon's territorial integrity.
The statement also condemned rocket attacks against Israel from within Lebanese territory, which the ministry says were carried out by outlaws.
It says the attacks give Israel the motive to attack Lebanese territory and destabilise the region.
Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil blamed unsanctioned elements in Lebanon for the rocket attacks on Israel, while noting that those attacks do not justify Israel's retaliation.
Lebanese armed forces along with the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have intensified their patrols not only along the border line, but also inside nearby villages.
Soldiers are carrying out identity and official document checks.

LEBANON: UN VERIFICATION OF ISRAEL BORDER
English/Nat

U-N envoy Terje Road Larsen said on Friday he was nearing agreement with Lebanon's leaders on the verification of Israel's pullout from the South of the country.
After three hours of talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Salim Hoss, Larsen said most of the outstanding issues were now resolved, although a number of sticking points remained.
The talks followed another day in which the United Nations team marking the Lebanese-Israeli border continued its work surveying the new frontier created after the troop pullout.
The U-N teams keeping a watchful eye in Odeissi-Kfar Kila, on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
They've have been at work for several days on the Israeli side, marking the frontier.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces along the border have been removing positions that are found to be in violation of the U-N-charted line.
Marking the border is key for the United Nations to confirm the Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon under U-N resolution 425 and to the deployment of peacekeepers in areas vacated by Israel to the international border.
About 4-thousand 500 peacekeepers, deployed in parts of southern Lebanon since a 1978 Israeli invasion of the country, are expected to be buttressed by more troops to fan out to the international border.
U-N personnel said they were placing peoples' needs first.

We are also finding out any developments the state of positions and finding out about social services, like schooling medical delivery, delivering water and electricity. We are also finding out if there are any humanitarian problems that have arisen as a result of the withdrawal..

To make sure the demarcation of the border is done successfully and fairly U-N envoy Terje Road Larsen is talking to Lebanese leaders.
Larsen's talks came amid reported tensions between Lebanon and the United Nations over the border demarcation.
An official Lebanese statement carried by the state-run National News Agency accused the U-N team of bias toward Israel.
The statement described a charged atmosphere on Thursday in a meeting between U-N cartographers and the
Lebanese team.
For security and defence considerations, Israel has altered the border fence at some points after its 1978 and 1982 invasions of Lebanon - as well as throughout the years of occupying the border zone in southern Lebanon as a buffer against guerrilla attacks.
The United Nations is making sure that Israel's troops fall back to behind the international border as defined by 1923 maps drawn by colonial powers France, which controlled Lebanon, and Britain, which had a mandate over pre-Israeli Palestine.

ISRAEL/ LEBANON: TENSION REMAINS HIGH
Hebrew/Eng/Nat
XFA
Tensions remained high across the Middle East on Sunday.
At the Yarin gate, a border crossing between Israel and Lebanon, Arabs taunted Israeli soldiers, throwing stones and attacking the border fence.
The Israelis responded by firing tear gas cannisters across the border.
It was at this crossing that two Palestinian refugees were shot and killed on Saturday.
On Sunday, thousands of mourners attended the funeral procession in Beirut of one of the victims.
He was shot after hundreds of Palestinian refugees charged toward the border fence from the Lebanese side, hurling stones at Israeli soldiers.
The riots ended the relative peace enjoyed at the Israeli-Lebanese border since Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak decided to withdraw Israeli troops from southern Lebanon.
Not long after the shooting, Hezbollah snatched the three soldiers from Chebba on the southeastern corner near the border.
Hezbollah said it captured the Israelis in order to exchange them for Lebanese held in Israeli jails.
Not long after the kidnapping, Israeli helicopter gunships scrambled to the air, spraying machine-gun fire on suspected guerrilla infiltration trails.
Helicopter gunships blasted suspected guerrilla infiltration trails around Chebba in an attempt to discourage movement and possibly cut off escape routes.
The helicopters blocked the main road leading out of the area with a wall of machine-gun fire.
Six Lebanese civilians were injured and several vehicles were set on fire or were damaged.
The burning hulk of two vans and several cars with broken windows littered the road near a U-N checkpoint.
The Chebba farmland lies between Chebba and Kfar Chouba, hugging the western foothills of Mount Hermon.
The fertile farms are uninhabited.
Israel won them from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war when its forces swept through the adjacent Golan Heights.
Lebanon and Syria say the area is Lebanese but Israel says the territory has to be negotiated with the Golan Heights.
The United Nations, which confirmed Israel's May withdrawal and delineated the border, says Chebba is not included in Lebanon.
Although things were peaceful Israeli forces mobilised along the border, preparing for any possible escalation.
Israel ferried hundreds of troops, including special forces, together with armoured units to the frontier, and a Cabinet minister said Lebanon would pay a heavy price if the three captured soldiers are not returned quickly.
In the popular resort town of Tiberius, on the Sea of Galilee, home to one of the kidnapped soldiers, residents took to the streets searching for any Israeli Arabs on whom they could vent their fury.
They also set fire to a mosque that local Arabs had hoped to renovate and reopen for use.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
It's difficult for anyone to say right now what's going to happen tomorrow but on our part we're trying our best and hoping for peace.

We will kill the Arabs, kill all the Arabs. We don't want any Arabs near Tiberius. If they come here we will kill them. Death to the Arabs.
