WNIT Michiana's Rising Star Regionals move to Elkhart, Indiana
On Saturday, April 19th, WNIT continued its search for the next Michiana's Rising Star at the Lerner Theatre from 10am to 5pm as regional contestants perform. The hour long show will air on July 17th at 8 pm.
Michiana's Rising Star is a one hour, multi-part series that seeks to find and celebrate the many talented people that live and work right here in Michiana. From dancers to vocalists, magicians to musicians, they are all here waiting to be discovered.
On April 12th WNITrecorded the first regional show at Warsaw High School, in Warsaw, Indiana - this episode will air on July 10 at 8 pm.
On Saturday, May 3rd, WNIT Michiana's Rising Star's production crew will be recording the hour long show at the Kroc Center in South Bend from 10am to 5pm as regional contestants perform. Contestants have been chosen, but it's free and open to the public to become part of our audience, so come join us! The show will air on July 24th at 8 pm.
Then on Saturday, May 10th, WNIT is end its regional search for the next Michiana's Rising Star is at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor at the Mendel Center from 10am to 5pm. It's free and the recording of the hour long show is open to the public. We encourage you to be part of the audience! The hour long show will air airs July 31st at 8 pm.
At each of the regional venues, the panel of judges will determine the top five performances.
The night each show airs, you the viewers will text vote to determine the top three contestants on each show that will move on to the August 2nd live show.
Then on Sunday, Aug. 3rd -- live in the WNIT studio -- the remaining 12 contestants will perform live beginning at 8 pm.
On Monday, Aug. 4th at 8 pm, the top 7 contestants will perform -- judges and viewers decide who moves on.
Tuesday, Aug. 5th at 8 pm, the top 6 contestants perform.
Wednesday, Aug. 6th at 8 pm, the top 5 contestants perform.
Thursday, Aug. 7th at 8 pm, the top 4 contestants perform.
Friday, Aug. 8th at 8 pm, the top 3 contestants perform -- the winners will be announced at the end of the show.
During the program, viewers are able to text vote for their favorite performers. Contestants will be asked to perform each night they are still in the contest. There may be an occasion for a favorite to be asked back for a special performance. On Friday's show
(August 8th), first and second place winners will be announced.
This program is a fundraiser for WNIT - Ch. 34's Public Television. It also is a way we are able to showcase the amazing talent in our community. Thank you for wanting to be part of our program. We are happy to turn the spotlight on you!
The judges have narrowed the selection to 100 contestants.
The next phase is the regional performances -- all of which will air during July.
The finalists - after viewers vote -- will move to the live portion of our program beginning Sunday, August 3 through Friday, August. 8.
Four in-studio judges will score the performances during the show, viewers have a chance to text in their vote. Each vote costs $5 to keep the playing field even.

Elkhart, Indiana - Ball State Video (Spring 2012)
The town of Elkhart, Indiana is a lively riverside community that blends its rich past with modern touches. The beautifully renovated Lerner Theatre is the cornerstone for the downtown's Arts & Entertainment District with eclectic eateries, shops, pubs and museums. And, the nearby RiverWalk links waterside parks with pedestrian friendly city streets.
You'll see the historic Ruthmere Mansion - where you can tour the 1908 building that was once the cornerstone of high society in Elkhart. You can also see parts of the Midwest Museum of Art. The video also highlights some great dining establishments in Elkhart like McCarthy's. Another surprise in the middle of Amish Country is the historic Lerner Theater. The recently restored and expanded 1920s-era movie house turned performing arts complex features a 1,700-seat theatre, flexible banquet hall, classroom space, backstage tours and more.
