New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 74: Today we are going to show you what the free New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington is really like as part of our 365 Days: 365 Activities.
Yesterday - Day 73 -
Tomorrow – Day 75 –
About this video:
Today we are checking out the New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington!
We are making our way into the city centre of Wellington, New Zealand and the first thing we are going to check out is the New Zealand Parliament Tour at the Parliament buildings. It’s a free thing to do in Wellington!
However, when we arrive at the New Zealand Parliament buildings and the Wellington Beehive, we find out that absolutely no cameras or even phones are allowed... Well, this is awkward.
All we can really show you is the awesome exterior architecture of Wellington’s famous Beehive building, which is not included in the tour by the way. We tour the New Zealand Parliament buildings such as the library, earthquake proofing in the basement and the house of representatives.
We learn a little bit of history on the New Zealand Parliamant Tour along the way.
So what do you think of the New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington? Is this free activity something you would do in Wellington?

National Library makes more room for New Zealand and Pacific stories
Take a tour with Bill Mcnaught and Stevie Davis Tana into the National Library basement.
The National Library holds millions of books stored carefully beneath the road under Molesworth St in Wellington and in storehouses outside Wellington. 600,000 books make up a portion of the overseas published collections stretching across 24,544 metres of shelving.
Most of these haven’t been issued for 20-30 years. The National Library is looking to rehome these books to make more room for its New Zealand, Māori and Pacific collection.
Wellington botanic garden, New Zealand
Wellington botanic garden, New Zealand
After visiting Zealandia, the free shutter van dropped us at the Cable car station. We walked through the Botanic Gardens from the top of hill down to the main entrance gate.
On the way we stopped at the Treehouse visitor centre and the duck pond. At the entrance of the Treehouse we saw an interesting sculpture called the Bee Lady. The platforms/balcony surrounding the visitor centre gave us a great view of the Botanic Gardens as well as Wellington. Along the way, we also saw many different kinds of flowers and plants.
The information below is from the website
Over 26 hectares of unsurpassed views, unique landscape, exotic forests, native bush, colourful floral displays and gorgeous specialist gardens.
Visit the Duck Pond, Begonia House, award-winning Lady Norwood Rose Garden, Treehouse Visitor Information Centre, Sundial of Human Involvement, Children's Play Area and the historic Bolton Street Memorial Park, where many of the city's pioneers are buried.
Gardens open daily sunrise to sunset. Garden tours are available by prior booking or prior request.
