Places to see in ( La Rochelle - France )
La Rochelle is a coastal city in southwestern France and capital of the Charente-Maritime department. It's been a center for fishing and trade since the 12th century, a maritime tradition that's reflected in its Vieux Port (old harbor) and huge, modern Les Minimes marina. The old town has half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture, including passageways covered by 17th-century arches.
Known as La Ville Blanche (the White City), La Rochelle's luminous limestone façades glow in the bright coastal sunlight. One of France's foremost seaports from the 14th to 17th centuries, the city has arcaded walkways, half-timbered houses (protected from the salt air by slate tiles), ghoulish gargoyles and a fabulous collection of lighthouses – all rich reminders of its magnificent seafaring heritage. The early French settlers of Canada, including the founders of Montreal, set sail from here in the 17th century.
This 'white city' is also commendably green, with innovative public transport, open spaces and plenty of activities and attractions for families visiting with children. La Rochelle's late-20th-century district of Les Minimes was built on reclaimed land, and now has one of the largest marinas in the country. Unlike the Med with its motor cruisers, the 3500 moorings here are mostly used by yachts, which fill the harbour with billowing spinnakers.
The Old Port (Vieux Port) is the oldest and most picturesque part of La Rochelle, dominated by its defensive towers. If a party of enormous chess pieces came down to the seaside and got tipsy, they would resemble these 14th / 15th C towers. Tour de la Chaine and Tour St Nicholas lean over the narrow harbour entrance: a stout chain was raised between them to keep out trouble (often English). A rampart stretches west to Tour de la Lanterne, the former lighthouse.
Musée du Nouveau Monde (New World Museum) housed in the old Fleuriau Hotel, depicts La Rochelle's relationship with the Americas, especially Maritime Canada and the French Caribbean. Port des Minimes is one of the biggest pleasure boat marinas in Europe: mostly yachts not motorboats. Also, visit the nearby beach.
Musée Maritime (Maritime Museum), Place Bernard Moitessier and Aquarium de La Rochelle (La Rochelle Aquarium), Quai Louis Prunier (near railway station just south of old port). Île de Ré resort island is accessed along Route D735 via a 2 km long toll-bridge. The toll to get onto the island is €16 per car in summer and €8 in winter, free on foot or with a bike; there's no return toll. The road runs through La Flotte to the main settlement of St Martin de Ré, which has a charming port (UNESCO Heritage Site) fortified by Vauban. Most buses terminate here. The road straggles on for another 20 km to Les Portes-en-Ré.
Situated near the Old Port, you can buy fresh products every morning in the central covered Market. On Wednesday and Saturdays (and during most of the summer), you will see all of the streets surounding the main area covered in stands occupied by local farmers selling their products. You will find dozens of restaurants surrounding this hot spot, and from the market, you can go in direction of the Place de Verdun or the Old Port and will walk by the main shopping streets of La Rochelle. The sector of Les Minimes is where you will find most activities that are not specifically targeted to tourists, such as bowling, movie theaters, etc.

Our trip to l'Ile de Ré 2012
La Rochelle
A few holiday snaps from a school trip to La Rochelle. Places featured are Zoo de la Palmyre, a lighthouse on the Ile de Re, La Rochelle itself and Il d'Oleron. The reason for the backing track (The Lion Sleeps Tonight-Lebo M) is because that was the song my friend Josh (white hair) played incessantly on his mobile.

Places to see in ( La Rochelle - France ) La Rochelle Beach
Places to see in ( La Rochelle - France ) La Rochelle Beach
Spend the afternoon enhancing your tan on La Rochelle’s largest beach, before viewing the lavish yachts in the port. Minimes Beach is a charming stretch of sand in an area of upscale boutiques and restaurants. Scattered along the beach are many bathing stations complete with showers and other amenities to make your afternoon more comfortable. Find a nice patch of sand for you and your family to enjoy a French picnic of baguettes, cheese and wine.
Spot the famous Lighthouse at the End of the World in the ocean. The wooden octagonal structure is an identical replica of a 19th-century version in Patagonia. Admire its quaint design, appearing like a hut rising from the Bay of Biscay. Relax on the sand with the panoramic view of the lighthouse and sparkling blue ocean water.
La Rochelle is one of France’s loveliest coastal towns. Its historic port is beautifully preserved with a quayside that bustles with boats small and large, a seafront that is packed full of lively cafes, bars and restaurants. In the old town wander through its arcades streets, flanked by seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings that are now home to boutique shops selling everything from fashion and homeware to delicious pastries and fresh bread, books and antiques.
The old port area of La Rochelle is dominated by three 14th and 15th century towers that stand tall at the entrance and is one of the town’s major tourist attractions. Just over 400 years ago the first settlers to Quebec left from La Rochelle and Tour de la Chaine now houses a permanent exhibition celebrating this.

Places to see in ( Royan - France )
Royan is a seaside resort town on France’s Atlantic coast, at the mouth of the Gironde estuary. Its sandy beaches include the 2 km-long, south-facing La Grande Conche with its sheltered waters. The town also has belle epoque villas and modern, postwar architecture such as the concrete Notre-Dame de Royan church. The grand Cordouan Lighthouse stands on an islet in the estuary, accessible by ferry.
Located at the entrance to the Gironde estuary, the seaside resort of the Beauté coast became famous in the 19th century, when the fashion for sea bathing developed. Rebuilt after the bombardments of 1945, the town of Royan today offers many examples of modern architecture, including residential blocks and the Notre-Dame church. It is though still possible to admire charming villas of the Belle Époque period, especially in the prestigious district of Pontaillac. Beautiful fine sand beaches, among which the Grande Conche beach and the beautiful beach of Pontaillac, as well as the numerous activities on offer make Royan a renowned seaside resort.
Royan is a commune in the south-west of France , located in the department of Charente-Maritime (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region). Its inhabitants are called Royannais and Royannaises. Main city of the Côte de Beauté with 18,393 inhabitants in 2015, in the heart of an urban area of 48,982 inhabitants in 2013, Royan is primarily one of the main seaside resorts on the French Atlantic coast, with five beaches sand, and also a marina that can accommodate more than 1,000 boats and an active fishing port. Economic center radiating on the south-west quarter of the department (tertiary activities : shopping centers, crafts, banks and mutual, educational institutions) the city also lives at the pace of the university pole of Carel, specialized in language teaching.
Located in the peninsula of Arvert, on the right bank of the mouth of the largest estuary in Europe, the Gironde, Royan has always been a coveted strategic site costing him several seats and destruction. After the Germanic invasions (Visigoths in particular), and some incursions Viking, Royan, then small fishing port, is the seat of several priories during the Middle Ages. Under English rule during the Hundred Years War, the city becomes during the Religious war a Protestant stronghold that will be besieged and destroyed by Louis XIII.
It was only during the Restoration that Royan developed thanks to its sea baths and acquired a great reputation in the middle of the 19th century, especially from the Second Empire. It hosts many artists during the Roaring Twenties.
Destroyed by allied bombing during the Liberation fighting (headquarters of Royan, September 12, 1944-15 April 1945), the martyred city is declared a Laboratory of research on urbanism and has since a representative architectural heritage of the 1950s (Modernist architecture), which earned him to be classified Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (Towns of Art and History) in 2010. Today, Royan affirms more than ever its seaside vocation. It is a tourist and cultural center welcoming annually 90,000 inhabitants each summer season.

La Rochelle June 2017
La Rochelle is a coastal city in southwestern France and capital of the Charentes-Maritime department. It's been a center for fishing and trade since the 12th century, a maritime tradition that's reflected in its Vieux Port (old harbor) and huge, modern Les Minimes marina. The old town has half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture, including passageways covered by 17th-century arches.
The port of La Rochelle has been standing here since the XIIIth century.
It was very likely fortified from the beginning. The towers date back to the XIVth and XVth centuries. They outlived the destruction of the ramparts after the Siege of 1628. On the left St Nicolas Tower, the tallest, opposite the Chain Tower and then further on from the latter, stands the Lighthouse Tower used both as a lighthouse and a defensive tower and linked to the Chain Tower by a defensive wall.

Oleron Island: a 4K drone movie
FRANCE's DRONE RULES EXPLAINED
???? Filmed entirely in France.
Check out our Youtube Channel now for more drone movies:
Or visit drone-made.com for more info about flying a drone ????
Oleron Island is France's second largest island strectching over 32 kms and offering a real relaxing under rated retreat for locals and visitors. We have been fortunate enough to live here a few years and explore its most unique features across all seasons.
The island was in the past a strategic land for military forces. The bay between the island and mainland France is home to several fortifications such as Fort Boyard and Fort Louvois which all served to defend the seaport of Rochefort. Rochefort was/is a military maritime base where France used to build some of its greatest ships for crossing the oceans and supporting colonisation around the world.
The entire video is made on the island; mostly around the village Le Chateau d'Oleron located on the south end of the island and Chassiron which is the furthermost point in the North. Le Chateau d'Oleron (translated as the castle of the island) is in fact the village hosting the biggest citadelle protecting against Nazi invasion. It is now a peaceful village with about 4,000 inhabitants all year round that gets really busy in summer days. Chassiron is an icon for the region, with its black and white lighthouse, you won't be disappointing by the view up there (unless you've flown your drone just before and know it all by then). There are some nice villages around the lighthouse and a great shore walk that stretches on the whole island if you are feeling like a day hike.
???? Places featured:
0:20 - La Capitainerie
0:37 - La Citadelle
1:05 - La Chevalerie
2.03 - Chassiron
2.09 - Boyardville
2.32 - Fort Louvois
Our experience hiking and flying above Oleron was excellent although some of our footage is now illegal if you do not have the permission. We were lucky to fly there a few years ago before regulations come in place so please look them up before taking off above this beautiful island.

Corbiere Lighthouse
This video is about Corbiere Lighthouse
Located at the western end of the island of Ré, within the town of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines.
The lighthouse gets its name from the fact that many whales to run aground once came here on the island. The last time the whale was beached en masse in 1920.
The lighthouse itself in 1854, but was built to replace a first lighthouse in 1682, commonly called the Tour des Baleines (the Tower of the Whale). With a smaller size and scope enough, the old tower, one of the oldest light in France, is located nearby.
The current lighthouse peaks at 57 meters high and has a range of visibility about 45 km.
Once passed the 257 steps of spiral staircase, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view overlooking the island, the Conche des Baleines (Concha Whale) and a nice example of a fish lock, further, the costs the coast, the island of Oléron and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Phare des Baleines can be visited all year round. Price per adult 3 euros. Every lighthouse has a museum home ... before entering the grounds of the lighthouse, we can enjoy restaurants, bars and even a hotel all in accordance with the landscape.
