Places to see in ( Rhayader - UK )
Rhayader is a market town and community in Powys, Wales. Rhayader is the first town on the banks of the River Wye, 20 miles from its source on the Plynlimon range of the Cambrian Mountains. The town is one of the principal centres of population in the historic county of Radnorshire.
Rhayader is situated roughly midway between North and south Wales on the A470, 13 miles north of Builth Wells and 30 miles east of Aberystwyth on the A44 - two of Wales' most important trunk roads. The B4574 mountain road to Aberystwyth is described by the AA as one of the ten most scenic drives in the world. The name Rhayader is a partly-Englished form of its Welsh name Y Rhaeadr (the waterfall), or more fully, Rhaeadr Gwy (waterfall [on the] Wye). Strictly speaking, according to place-name spelling conventions in Welsh, the name of the town would be 'Rhaeadr-gwy', and the waterfall itself 'Rhaeadr Gwy', but it seems that this distinction is usually ignored.
Rhayader has always been a natural stopping point for travellers - the Romans had a stop-over camp in the Elan Valley, Monks travelled between the Abbeys of Strata Florida and Abbeycwmhir and drovers headed to the lucrative markets with their livestock. it wasn't until the 12th Century that documented history of the town began with the building of a Castle in 1177. Little remains today, with the exception of a dry moat that can be seen from Wauncapel Park.
One of the oldest buildings in Rhayader is the Old Swan, which stands on the corner of West and South Streets Rhayader. The original building was mentioned in 1676 as being one of the two inns in Rhayader at that date. Some changes were made in 1683, including the rebuilding of the three chimney stacks, and this date is carved into the old timbers inside the building.
In the 19th Century, turnpike roads were only passable on payment of extortionate tolls, imposing additional burdens on already poor communities. This led to the Rebecca Riots across South and Mid Wales from 1839–1842, with no less than six of Rhayader's tollgates being demolished with impunity by local farmers dressed as women. The actions of these 'Rebeccaites' led to a Commission of Inquiry being set up, and most of Rebecca's grievances were righted two years later.
In the 1890s the rapidly expanding city of Birmingham, 70 miles east, viewed the nearby Elan Valley as the ideal source of clean, safe water. This was to change the face of Rhayader forever, bringing thousands of workers involved in building this massive complex of dams and reservoirs to the area. A new railway was built connecting this huge area with the main network in Rhayader, and the construction of a new village to house the workers was built on the banks of the River Elan. Work started in 1894 and the scheme was officially opened in 1904 by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
The station on the Mid Wales Railway line that served the town was closed on 31 December 1962. The nearest station is now at Crossgates on the Heart of Wales Line, though connections are usually made at the more accessible Llandrindod railway station a similar distance away. An extensive bus service connects with outlying villages and neighbouring towns, with two-hourly daytime departures to Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Aberystwyth and Newtown, with connections to Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cardiff and further afield.
Tourism and agriculture are the most important industries locally. Walkers and cyclists are drawn to Rhayader for the abundance of trails and bridleways surrounding the town, which is the gateway to a massive complex of reservoirs and dams (The Elan Valley). This vast area is home to some of Britain's rarest wildlife and plants, including red kites, along with magnificent feats of engineering. There are a number of hotels, bed and breakfasts and campsites to accommodate the large amount of visitors that travel to the area all year round. Rhayader is also home to a community founded art and heritage complex which includes a museum and gallery.
( Rhayader - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Rhayader . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Rhayader - UK

Elizabeth Taylor-Be My Baby
Originally uploaded in October 2015 on my old channel.
Elizabeth Taylor was born on February 27, 1932 in London, England. Although she was born an English subject, her parents, Sara Sothern (née Sara Viola Warmbrodt) and Francis Lenn Taylor, were Americans, art dealers from St. Louis, Missouri (her father had gone to London to set up a gallery). Her mother had been an actress on the stage, but gave up that vocation when she married. Elizabeth lived in London until the age of seven, when the family left for the US when the clouds of war began brewing in Europe in 1939. They sailed without her father, who stayed behind to wrap up the loose ends of the art business.
The family relocated to Los Angeles, where Mrs. Taylor's own family had moved. Mr. Taylor followed not long afterward. A family friend noticed the strikingly beautiful little Elizabeth and suggested that she be taken for a screen test. Her test impressed executives at Universal Pictures enough to sign her to a contract. Her first foray onto the screen was in There's One Born Every Minute (1942), released when she was ten. Universal dropped her contract after that one film, but Elizabeth was soon picked up by MGM.
The first production she made with that studio was Lassie Come Home (1943), and on the strength of that one film, MGM signed her for a full year. She had minuscule parts in her next two films, The White Cliffs of Dover (1944) and Jane Eyre (1943) (the former made while she was on loan to 20th Century-Fox). Then came the picture that made Elizabeth a star: MGM's National Velvet (1944). She played Velvet Brown opposite Mickey Rooney. The film was a smash hit, grossing over $4 million. Elizabeth now had a long-term contract with MGM and was its top child star. She made no films in 1945, but returned in 1946 in Courage of Lassie (1946), another success. In 1947, when she was 15, she starred in Life with Father (1947) with such heavyweights as William Powell, Irene Dunne and Zasu Pitts, which was one of the biggest box office hits of the year. She also co-starred in the ensemble film Little Women (1949), which was also a box office huge success., Richard Burton (the previous four were Conrad Hilton, Michael Wilding, Michael Todd--who died in a plane crash--and Eddie Fisher). Her next handful of films were lackluster at best, including The V.I.P.s (1963) and The Sandpiper (1965), which were shredded by most critics but were financially successful. Elizabeth was to return to fine form, however, with the role of Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). Her performance as the loudmouthed, shrewish, unkempt Martha was easily her finest to date. For this she would win her second Oscar and one that was more than well-deserved. The following year, she and Burton co-starred in another box office hit, The Taming of the Shrew (1967), again giving winning performances and being nominated for an Oscas, but losing. However, her films afterward were box office failures, including Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967), Boom! (1968) (again co-starring with Burton), Secret Ceremony (1968), The Only Game in Town (1970), X, Y and Zee (1972), Hammersmith Is Out (1972) (with Burton again), Ash Wednesday (1973), The Driver's Seat (1974) (considered by many to be her worst), The Blue Bird (1976), A Little Night Music (1977), and Winter Kills (1979) (a controversial film which was never given a full release and in which she only had a small role). Since then, she has appeared in some movies, both theatrical and made-for-television, and a number of television programs. In February 1997, Elizabeth entered the hospital for the removal of a brain tumor. The operation was successful. As for her private life, she divorced Burton in 1974, only to remarry him in 1975 and divorce him, permanently, in 1976. She had two more husbands, U.S. Senator John Warner and construction worker Larry Fortensky, whom she met in rehab.
In 1959, Taylor converted to Judaism, and continued to identify herself as Jewish throughout her life, being active in Jewish causes. Upon the death of her friend, actor Rock Hudson, in 1985, she began her crusade on the behalf of AIDS sufferers. In the 1990s, she also developed a successful series of scents. In her later years, her acting career was relegated to the occasional TV-movie or TV guest appearance.
Elizabeth Taylor died on March 23, 2011 in Los Angeles, from congestive heart failure. Her final resting place is Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Glendale, California.
De BUCK GALLERY - The Search for the Rea
NYC GALLERY OPENING -

De Buck Gallery and Ameringer | McEnery | Yohe are pleased to present exhibitions curated by artist Brian Alfred during the summer of 2015. The Search for the Real, showing at De Buck Gallery, will be on view from July 9 through August 7. Black/White will be on view from July 9 through August 14 at Ameringer | McEnery | Yohe. Receptions for both exhibitions will take place at their respective galleries on July 23 from 6–8pm.
The two exhibitions present a wide array of artists working over
varied methods and subject matter. As a working artist, Alfred
curated together many of his contemporaries, alongside
established names like Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell
and Turi Simeti. He conceived both exhibitions independently,
yet they share ties of a restriction of palette.
The Search For The Real brings together artists whose work
explores the boundaries of painting in a direct physical
manner. Materiality and process are the focus of these artists who
deal with abstraction via those means. The title of the exhibition
is taken from the collected essays of Hans Hoffman, who in his
essays challenged painting to describe depth in different ways,
outside of points and lines, to create pictorial space. The artists
in this show use different means to push the conventions of space
in painting. Works by Jo Baer, Joseph Cohen, Peter Demos,
Chris Duncan, Matt Mignanelli, Augustus Nazzaro, Ann Pibal, Turi
Simeti, Suzanne Song and Ryan Wallace will be included in the
exhibition.
Black/White was curated in an opposite manner. Alfred chose
various artists who deal with varied subject matter and asked
them to make work for the show with the limited palette of black
and white. The interest was to ask artists, many whom do not
work in this restricted manner, to create something outside of their
normal working method. The result is a collective of artists who
may not normally be shown together with seemingly little in
common and creating a dialog between their works with the
unity of palette. Not only is Alfred interested in the way these
works interact in the show, but also, the idea of the act of
throwing fellow artists a curveball in the studio, which
may lead to ideas and decisions that the artist may not have
originally considered. Exhibiting artists include Nick Aguayo, Brian
Alfred, Diana Al-Hadid, Kevin Appel, Matthew Chambers,
Gerald Davis, Jay Davis, Richard Diebenkorn, Austin Eddy, Chie
Fueki, Jackie Gendel, Luis Gispert, Jacob Hashimoto, Al Held, David Hockney, Hans Hofmann, Ridley Howard, Shay Kun, Andrew Kuo, Patrick Lee, Gina Magid, Matt Mignanelli, Joseph Montgomery, Robert Motherwell, Liz Nielsen, Carlos Rolón, Dana Schutz, James Siena, Wendy White, and Liat Yossifor. LaMontagne Gallery in Boston presented an earlier edition of this in 2014.
The Search for the Real and Black/White reiterate Alfred’s ties
to both galleries. An artist represented by Ameringer | McEnery | Yohe, he recently had his February 2015 exhibit, It Takes
A Million Years To Become Diamonds So Let’s All Just Burn
Like Coal Until The Sky Is Black. In early 2014, Alfred, as part of his
collaboration with Brooklyn-based Woodpoint + Kingsland,
curated an exhibition of artist-designed skateboards at De Buck
which featured artists from Diana Al-Hadid to Katherine Bernhardt.
Brian Alfred was born in 1974 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He
received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997 from Pennsylvania State University and his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1999 from Yale University. Afterwards, he attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He currently lives and works in
Brooklyn.

Irving Finkel | The Ark Before Noah: A Great Adventure
Irving Finkel, Assistant Keeper I with responsibility for cuneiform in the Department of the Middle East, British Museum.
This talk, illustrated by a PowerPoint, will describe what befell the speaker after one quite remarkable cuneiform tablet was brought for examination to the British Museum in London. The inscription on this four-thousand-year-old tablet led to a series of altogether unexpected discoveries, demanding a whole new look at Noah and his Ark, and culminating in a book and a documentary film.

Curator Albert Elen in gallery 2 of The Collection Two
In The Collection Two of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the collection of prints and drawings has a significant place. Mainly this fragile collection is not accessible to the audience. Senior curator prints and drawings Albert Elen shows a little gallery in the beginning of the collection, which exhibits paintings, prints and drawings from the 15th century. Elen dwells on a renowned print of Antonio del Pollaiolo, 'Battle of the naked man', that is considered to be one of the highlights of the Renaissance. Although the 16th century writer Vasari mentions that Pollaiolo made more prints, it is presumed that this is the only one he made. Furthermore Elen talks about the exquisite work of Fra Angelico and Benozzo Gozzoli.
