Dining on a Lake on a Mountain
Gorgeous scenery, peaceful surroundings, Loyalist architecture, mouth-watering food, delicious home-made beer it can all be found at the Lake on the Mountain Resort and it's corresponding restaurant 'The Inn.'
Lake on the Mountain is located in Prince Edward County in Southern Ontario at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. It is a geographic oddity, a deep lake with no source of water that's 200 feet above the nearby Bay of Quinte and is one of only two plateau lakes of its kind in the whole world. The panoramic view from Lake on the Mountain back down over Lake Ontario is stunning. Visitors have been coming here for years to relax and unwind, and enjoy the spectacular view.
The GCAT took the fun, local Glenora Ferry across a section of Lake Ontario before climbing up in our Chrysler van Tripp'er to reach the Lake on the Mountain Resort. It's a gorgeous old building dating back to 1860. It used to be a general store which the country's esteemed former Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald used to shop at. It's a quaint stone building of Loyalist architecture (the region is second only to Williamsburg for its cache of wonderful Loyalist architecture) and is easy to spot because they have their old 1918 Ford truck parked out front. The truck still runs and they use it to deliver barrels of beer (which they brew themselves on site) to the town nearby.
The beers are made from local barley and hops instead of imports. Whether it's the cream ale, English ale, traditional IPA, or oatmeal stout, you are drinking a truly local brew. We couldn't help ourselves but have a sample of the homemade tipple under the sun on their comfortable patio beside the lake.
A Mecca for artists, nature lovers and anyone looking for a getaway or for a weekend break the area is a great spot for sailing, fishing, live theatre, artists' studios and galleries, unique regional cuisine and is also a flourishing wine region; with 26 wineries now operating in the region.
The sun was warm, there was a cool breeze off the lake and the beers went down easy. After an hour on the patio it was excruciatingly hard for us to drag ourselves back to our van and get back on the road. One thing we all agreed on before we left was that someday we'd be back.
See you there!

Creemore to Caledon: Close-To-Home Cooking | 5 Stops - Episode 6 | LCBO
A Food & Drink Original Series. New episode every Wednesday until November 20th.
Creemore’s name translates to “big heart,” which is exactly what these local farmers, merchants, and producers put into everything they do. That attitude extends across the region, and combined with their focus on local craft and sustainability, and an almost unfair amount of natural beauty and resources, you feel transported to simpler times. So, we took the trip from Creemore to Caledon, to experience just how tasty close-to-home can be.
In this episode, our hosts explore from Creemore to Caledon and stop in to visit the Creemore 100 Mile Store, K2 Milling, Sheldon Creek Dairy, Beattie's Distillers, and Spirit Tree Estate Cidery.

SIX NATIONS INDIAN RESERVE, ONTARIO, CANADA
This video is mostly for those in Canada, USA but especially outside NA who have never been on an Indian Reserve (or Reservation, two words, same meaning).
Apparently, as per Wikipedia as well, this particular Indian Reserve in the largest in entire Canada.
Downtown Six Nations Indian Reserve is the Village of Ohsweken, Ontario:
Indians do not pay any taxes on the Reserve, that includes sales tax, gas tax, property tax also outside their Reserve as well:
Not bad to be an Indian in Ontario, no idea about taxes for Indians in rest of Canada.
Gas prices are obviously very low on the Reserve, about 35c/liter ($1.2/gallon) lower than rest of Ontario, no gas taxes on the Reserve, that's why everybody who lives around the Reserve plus tourists who are aware of this place always stop by for a pretty cheap fill-up.
As you can see, locals have no problem with the word RED INDIAN, I personally spoken with a store owner near the gas station and she said she's very proud as being a Native INDIAN and she does not see the word as offensive in any way. We all know how (overwhelmingly) White Liberal Media AND White Liberals in generals brand you as racist when using this word, NBC/Bob Costas vs. Washington Red Skins the best example possible. Also how many ppl have been inside such Indian Reserve to know that Red Indian word is widely accepted by Native Indians.
YES, No Canadian Flag on the Reserve except for the Park along with American, British and their own flag, also they have their own Police, Fire, EMS Stations, so pretty much they consider themselves like an independent country.
The Reserve is located very close to Caledonia, Ontario, the place of ugly clashes btwn Indians and local white residents, OPP always being on the Indian's side, it's very politically incorrect to be against Indians nowadays.
Friendly advice to everybody going inside the Reserve: DO NOT SHOW ANY CANADIAN FLAG OR PRO-CANADIAN SIGN ON YOU AND/OR ON YOUR CAR. For your own sake of course.
At 06:23 in the video you'll see something extremely rare in Ontario and maybe in rest of Canada as well: a 65 KPH speed-zone sign, first time I've seen such sign in 20+ years of driving on Ontario roads.
So anytime you are around Hamilton, Ontario, feel free to visit the SIX NATIONS INDIAN RESERVE, never forget that anything you buy on the Reserve is TAX-FREE!!!

The Sergeant Sees It Through
As of August 26, 2014, this video is now public, by kind permission of Orica Canada. As far as I can determine, Orica owns the copyright, since CIL's interest fell to Orica via Imperial Chemical Industries. I tried to contact CIL (now a paint company) about this but never received any response.
Originally this was an unlisted video, so it didn't appear in my channel, in Youtube searches, or anywhere else on Youtube. The only way to find it was via its address (URL), which I provided to a limited number of family members.
YouTube's ContentMatch system found copyrighted music in various places throughout this video, and as a result, advertisements appear over those portions of the video. The advertisements are placed by the owners of the copyright for the associated music, and they alone receive any income earned from the ad placement.
Story: In 1953, a Saskatoon Police Sergeant had an idea to reduce firearms-related mischief among city youth: form a shooting club for boys. The club was a success, and this short film was made to document what had happened. The film was sponsored by Canadian Industries Limited's (C-I-L) ammunition division. It's essentially a re-enactment, starring all the people originally involved. As with many films in those days, no audio was recorded, so music was added and a narrator provides the story.
An amazing look at Saskatoon in the fifties, this film - although commercial in nature - shows local authorities solving a social problem, not with new laws or stronger enforcement of laws, but by creating something new that benefits all parties involved. Those were the days.
The closed captions are based on YouTube's automatic captions, heavily edited by me.
Full disclosure: my Dad is one of the original four boys.
EPA’s 2015 National Award for Smart Growth Achievement: City of Hamilton
NOTE: If you need captions, please click the CC button on the player to turn them on.
After years of disinvestment, the Rust Belt city of Hamilton, Ohio, has become an emerging hub of innovation and revitalization. With creative vision, strategic planning, and community engagement, the city and Historic Developers, LLC, completed three catalytic, mixed-use projects that reinvigorated the city’s central business district and set the stage for new economic development. The projects helped create a walkable downtown with new amenities, jobs, and housing options and spurred the creation of a formal partnership to buy and redevelop downtown properties.
EPA created the National Award for Smart Growth Achievement in 2002 to recognize exceptional approaches to development that protect the environment, encourage economic vitality, and enhance quality of life. In the past 13 years, 62 winners from 26 states have shown a variety of approaches that states, regions, cities, suburbs, and rural communities can use to create economically strong, environmentally responsible development. EPA's Office of Sustainable Communities manages the awards program.
