Agnes & Nancy White Water Rafting - two friends with a sense of adventure!
After attending several of our residential-based breaks, prominent dementia activist Nancy McAdam, who lives with dementia, let slip that one of her ambitions was to go white water rafting! Our team simply couldn’t resist that challenge, so this August we took Nancy and her great friend Agnes Houston to Morayshire on the north-east coast of Scotland - a place the two were already familiar with and very fond of, to raft the Findhorn. Based at The Loft Activity Centre, and staying in timber ‘wigwams’, they enjoyed a week of activities including a walk on Roseisle beach, yoga sessions, picking produce in the kitchen garden, dolphin watching, visiting Kinloss Abbey, and of course, the rafting! As you can see from the pictures, the weather was kind on the Costa del Moray!
Agnes is keen on preserving her memories through photos, but at Roseisle she asked our adventure leader, Jesse Reed, to record the sounds of the beach so she could revisit that moment another time. What stood out from this trip was the number of activities the ladies could take part in. “Because everything was so well organised in advance, Agnes and Nancy didn’t have to put any of their energies into this aspect of the holiday. This gave them so much more opportunity to engage with people and activities and simply do things that they would not normally have been able to do”, said Jesse. Agnes was also accompanied by her daughter, Donna, who enjoyed the trip enormously!
